Have you tried fiddling around with the key rotation? While not necessarily secret, these do often have a little drawer on the bottom, so it wouldn't surprise me if that was one.

Place it flat and spin?
Try spinning the wheel and press on something.
Possible to push the knob? If yes: Push knob and turn wheel, than pull open. Try different wheel positions with this procedure.
it's a "smalls" box, for needles, etc...
turn knob until you see the missing cog, turn 180deg. and voila!
probably has a needle jammed in it if that doesn't work, lol
