I am lactating because of risperidone But i fucking love this medication makes me feel so normal My psychiatrist wants to take me off of it But I literally love the med I don't gaf that I'm lactating It's just like I have to express the milk sometimes
Anyways I'm going to a new psychiatrist to stay on risperidone, not gonna tell them I'm lactating cause I don't want to get off of it lol
Literally fuck these psychiatrist who won't let me make my own decisions
A small dose of aripiprazole can be added to control the lactation. You’ll be able to stay on risperidone. Ask your psychiatrist about this.

That med makes me self harm unfortunately, I get rrly emotional on it
Invega is basically the upgraded version of Risperidone. The lactation should be less likely on it and if you don’t get the right dose from the injection you can supplement it with a small dose of Rispiridone.
That’s what they do for me, because Invega and Rispiridone have been the only medications that can control my mania, and my positive symptoms, and I technically need just a small step up from the 2nd dose strength, so I also take 1mg of Rispiridone daily to supplement it.
I’m also on Cobenfy but I am specifically on it to help with my negative symptoms.
I’m also on several other medications, but those are my antipsychotics.
Thanks for the reply invega is the one they wanted me to switch to. Interesting I didn't know it was like risperidone I might give it a try now, if it doesn't work good I guess I'll just switch back. My psychiatrist doesn't like it when I play doctor but I really don't like feeling like shit lol I don't have a lot of negative symptoms but I should bring up cobenfy to my psychiatrist too if I need to after trying invega if I feel like shit still.
I experience a lot of positive symptoms, that's mostly my condition.
When you say it's the upgraded version do you know what that means or is that a general thing they tell you? Most of the psychiatrist I have speak generally so I'm not trying to make it seem like your uneducated.
When I say it’s the upgraded version I mean it’s basically the next iteration of the medication. Just adjusted slightly because Rispiridone was causing guys to grow female breasts.
Lol yea I get that thanks so much for replying
Of course! I hope that it all goes well for you
Sorry but you should not ignore this symptom. Not to scare you, but it's possible it's the result of a pituitary tumor. Drugs like this one are known to cause them. Often times, pituitary tumors don't even require treatment (they're not cancerous) but your doctors may want to monitor with periodic imaging and vision tests. If a pituitary tumor gets big enough it can impact your optic nerves and vision. Pituitary tumors can also cause all kinds of hormonal issues that fuck with your whole body. Secondary adrenal insufficiency is no joke.
I also tolerated risperidone pretty well.
Then I developed a pituitary adenoma I had to have surgically removed.
Then my surgery went badly and now I have lifelong chronic pain and several irreversible hormone deficiencies.
To be clear, this occurred over years.
I'm not even saying you should go off the medication. But your doctor will probably want an MRI and bloodwork to make sure shit's not getting bad, and you should get those done if they order them.
Thanks for replying this is really helpful
No problem. I honestly do not regret my decision to take those antipsychotics, as I really needed them at the time. But I think it's important to be aware of the possible side effects, even the serious/scary ones, so you can look out for them. I hope you are able to take something that helps, whether that's risperidone or something else.
Thanks I'm going to try and be safe and stick to meds that make me feel better, so trying another med is good but if it doesn't work I'm gonna keep taking risperidone. I don't doubt that I could have worse side effects from it since I'm already lactating.
I lactated on risperidone. I got pirtuatry adenomas from the prolactin increase so I’d get your blood work checked and possible a mri to make sure you don’t have them. Even if you do have them, they are normally harmless.
