Steam Issues Six New Free Game Downloads, Two Half-Life Gems Included | The Half-Life "Gems" are actually mods of Half-Life that change up the gameplay completely, but require you to have the original game which isn't free.
The games are Half-Life Arena, Half-Life Legacy, Dollemma, PROJECT LEVELS, 100 Radioactive Cats, and This Winter of Ours.

Eh I get it though. The modding community around Half-Life was so big that a lot of the mods were pretty much independent games and were often treated as such. I think a couple actually became their own standalone games too.

Hm so the title is pretty misleading, they’re free mods but not free games.
Though I believe the core game was free on Steam some time back.
