I always go out to see the last sunset of the year and I couldn't this year. Not just because of the rain, but a fractured bone that has condemned me to a boot without the walking. This really put things into a different perspective for me this year. That said, I'm excited to put on a onesie for coziness, make popcorn, watch a movie, and say hello to a new and more positive year. Have a happy new year, whatever you do!

did not really plan anything, but just wanted to go for a walk in the GGP, get some errands done, and call it a day early by 10 PM, but yeah now I am tucked in bed with my space heater on.

Dragged the family in the rain to a friend's house (walked), and now partying balls with a bunch of families. 

You can still come to the city. Do you have a rain jacket or umbrella? Even with the sun already set you can still walk along the Embarcadero or through a neighborhood you like. The rain only sucks as much as you let it.

You can still do that, dress for the rain, change your attitude or not. You can do all that next time sun is out in 7-8 days. You can't change what happens to you but you can change your vibe and outlook.

Why would today‘s rain stop you from doing that.

SFMTA has free muni / metro service until 5am Thursday. City expects 200,000 at the Embarcadero for the fireworks. We’ve had rain and fog almost every year and that doesn’t seem to damper the mood.

You don’t have to party to enjoy NYE. Last year I watched fireworks on a high street in Noe Valley. Me all alone with a spiked coffee tumbler. Ended up with a small crowd, 25 people I never met doing the same thing - just the beautiful night in the city, and watching the fireworks. Wonderful night.

It’s… I dunno, I’ve lived here my entire life minus two years so it’s overrated to me, I can’t tell you a NYE that had a full clear sky for fireworks 😫 still fun things to see and do and cozy spots to visit while Christmas lights and holiday lights are still up! I think most of us are staying in sick or tired (both?) and just not up for it. Or power outages if you’re in my part of the city…

Got drenched multiple times in the rain today, now home dried off and warm. The dog is happily chewing her bone. Drinking wine, eating chips and gauc , listening to music and podcasts while cooking and cleaning chatting on the phone and flitting about 🥰

I'm at home in San Francisco. Watched stranger things and am going to spend the to rest of the night sipping tea and reading.

We had stew and pudding, watched Dinner for one and read to the kids. Not a fan of NYE otherwise, great evening though.

Wherever you are it’s probably raining heavier than in SF. Almost always. Our hills aren’t tall enough to drain clouds, like those in the East Bay, Marin and the Peninsula.

And SF is a city. You come in, find a bar or cafe and enjoy the rain from inside. Or ride buses and trains across the City and back.

But that is what happens in California in the winter lol. And so nice that it doesn’t rain at all for, like, most of the months of the year. That’s what makes the Mediterranean climate.

On new years eve I sleep early (or take a 4 hour nap lol) so I can be awake from 12midnight to 3am when the fireworks keep going

I went out for Skrillex last night so got my fill. NYE is overpriced and often filled with people who don’t know how to handle themselves. Maybe try breakfast of champions if you still in a celebratory mood? It’s a day party

By 11pm it was not raining at all and the sidewalks were full of people like me who don’t care. You blew it.

Our rain here is pretty light. Barely a drizzle by New York or southern standards. Don’t let it ruin your plans (unless you’re made of paper or something)

Hey there, I hear you but wouldn’t worry about it too much. I’ve been downturn the last five hours having dinner and drinks at two differing venues. Yes, people are out but nothing about it is remarkable or unique. NYE is not an especially unique experience in SF.

You can have way more fun and meet cool people on a any given weeknight at the right spot.

I was supposed to be deplaning at SFO around 5pm to then head home in the city and join my friends for the night.

Missed connection in Denver due to delays, had to abort first SFO landing, and now sitting on hour 2 on the tarmac waiting for a gate to accept us.

It will turn midnight in an Uber for me. So things could be worse.

Yeah bummed I can't see myself going out. FOMO is real the only day of the year caltrain runs till 2 am and is free. Always look forward to the train parties I really can't see many people doing that this year got to be dressed like the Gordon fisherman and wear rain boots definitely not prepared for this much rain!

Honestly the weather in general has ruined my plans for this whole month I was supposed to be shooting a music video and I've had no luck because it's been completely gloomy for the most part and then yeah New Year's same thing. My wife and I just chilled inside, played some video games, watched movie's. It was a good time

We flew back home and our flight was delayed departing AND was on hold for almost 1.5 hrs waiting for an arrival gate to open up at SFO. We made it home just in time to eat mom’s “longevity” noodles before midnight, so goal was attained.

There were maybe 2 dozen travelers on the flight with connections, and sadly some will not have made it. They would have to welcome the new year stranded at SFO, or at an airport hotel. I feel bad for them.

Trust, it’s good to be home safe and in your own blanket ☺️

It rains almost every year on new year's day. We get plenty of beautiful sunsets regardless! Enjoy what you get, when you get!
