Once again it's that time to remind people who haven't spent enough time in San Diego: It's always either the military or SpaceX. Sometimes a transformer explosion.
Well. Considering I’ve been in SD for 10 years and never heard anything that loud, I’d say it’s not my lack of time here. Wasn’t spacex and I’m not sure what military crap would be happening like that at 7pm at night but it’s not a noise I’ve heard in my 10 years here
10 years is not that long, especially if you've moved around a bit. I've been here 33 years. It will vary a lot depending on where you live. I had my window broken by shockwave from artillery back when I lived in Oceanside. Air Force has a lot of supersonic aircraft that can produce some brain melting noise as well. If it bothers you the best option is to move deep into east county as far away as possible from Pendleton, Miramar, and Point Loma.
Interesting.. I assume fireworks based on other comments but I’ve heard regular fireworks and homemade ones and this one sounded way too loud. I assumed a transformer blew or something tbh but probably wrong lol
what area?
Good question. I’m in university heights but it was heard out in la mesa too
Heard it in NP too but sounded like a firework from here
I'm in university heights and didn't hear anything
[deleted]
I’m also in University Heights, and did not hear it
I'm not in University Heights, and also did not hear it.
I lived in university heights in the 80s and did not hear it
Same in hillcrest
There was supposed to be a SpaceX launch that was scrubbed the other day. Said to expect a sonic boom. Maybe they launched.
Not it, got scrubbed today too
Nah, standing down today https://x.com/SpaceX/status/2005442675122778330

Now, that's only for Ventura & surroundings. But yes, tomorrow the "Cosmo" Italian satalitte 🛰🛰🛰 Monday at 5:34pm. Dec 30th '25
I farted
You’ve gotta get that checked out, bud.
Is that what everyone was smelling a little bit back?
that explains the mist on the freeways as well. someone said it’s the marine layer. what an idiot. it’s no_lawyer1947’s fart mist.
🚬🗿
I heard it in UH. One big boom and sounded like a huge firecracker (not a gunshot or sonic boom)

It's always, unless it isn't.
What does SpaceX do in SD?
Nothing. But sonic booms travel rather far.
Not exactly in SD but sonic booms from their rockets are often audible here.

I heard it too. It sounded like a big firecracker to me, like an M-80, but it was pretty far away.

Up here in north county and something similar just happened also.
