I’m curious to go this weekend but I’m not understanding what it’s really about.

  • I like the deck at club Haunted House

Not at club aqua though. I heard it collapsed and Kim Kardashian's head fell off.

I heard the guy who built the deck at club aqua wouldn’t take his doctor though. Not cool.

Why did your heart rate spike at 3am??

i want to go to haunted house MORE than club aqua

  • I've been. It's new so still working out kinks. No liquor sales yet.

It's a rather small/intimate space with the main room (where the stage and bar are located) seating maybe like 20-30 people.

If you had ever been in Aces (the nightclub/bar that closed before DreamHaus moved in) it feels a lot smaller than Aces did. I went to a drag show at Aces years ago and there were like 200 people in attendance where DreamHaus could only hold a fraction of that (part of the club space is now a green room/dressing room and office space)

As for what to expect, it really depends. I believe they lean a little more into the burlesque side of cabaret and they've had several drag shows there. You should probably expect more or a variety show unless you're going to a specific themed event.

I would definitely try to check out one of their free events.

no liquor sales is crazy but thank you!!

    there’s beer & wine

i went on their soft opening and one of the employees said theyre not planning on getting a liquor license which i found a little odd for that kind of establishment, since it gives me cocktail vibes. the food was okay

  • I don't even know what that is

A cabaret theater would be a small theater (industrial revolution through WW2) that was risque in nature and the source of small town entertainment throughout Europe. I think American vaudeville is the comparison but American sensibilities kept shows clean cut and family friendly. It was soldiers returning from world war II who had enjoyed the nightlife of Europe that brought cabaret with them.

Cabaret is European Adult Humor with French attitudes towards attire that welcome burlesque performance. Shows are usually vignettes of multiple performers traditionally, but I imagine their declaration as a cabaret theater is more about the breadth of performers they welcome to their stage than anything. Buying a ticket to see something new, at the risk of leaving early is in the spirit of cabaret so just go check it out.

I feel like Michael Scott right now, learning about a surplus.

Being Richmond, I’d assume “cabaret” means “burlesque” and to include drag performance.

Cabarets are where Burlesque performances were most common. Cabaret is a category of performances that burlesque certainly falls within but they aren't interchangeable. A cabaret theater is meant to convey an intimate stage performance in size. You are just as likely to have an ugly ass stand up that no one would want to see take off their clothes at cabaret.

Their website is a litmus test for how this place/concept won’t last.

    I was thinking that…

They're pretty chill! We went to a drag show there, it was nice!

  • It was great! Everything except for the "GA" situation which is currently kinda awkward standing room at the back. Live singing, drag lip sync, comedy, and some acrobatics were what we got last weekend. I expect it's different each show.

  • A friend went to opening weekend - still kinks to work out but he’s super picky / has high standards and said the show was really great and he was glad he went. He had reserved bar seating. FYI ticket times are not reflective of show time so he was there accidentally very early. They serve food too so early arrival means you can eat before the show. I’m excited to have this addition to the city!

  • Is it only open for December? I’m not seeing a site or January theater schedules.

I went on Saturday and they told me the next event is January 3rd! It’s worth going I had so much fun

  • Sounds cool, I had not yet heard of it. Have to check it out soon!

  • i’ve been - excited to have something like this open in the city. The show had singing, burlesque, drag elements, variety acts. There are some clips on their instagram. The bottle walker was really cool!
