Hi y'all,
I'm location scouting for a science fiction film I'm working on and I need a room with a long hallway (14+ ft) attached to it (see renderings). The red table is just for scale. I've been looking all over Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and West Virginia for the past month and my last ditch effort would be to just create the room from scratch (in a warehouse somewhere (there are a few sound stage warehouses in the area)) but I'm hoping someone out there has seen something like this. It's a simple enough environment so here's hoping. The room and hallway would be preferably made from concrete, but any solid material would do. I’ll also be reaching out to city planners and realtors just to see if they’ve seen anything like this.
I was looking at pics of the tunnel system under the city and I feel like I could make that work, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to (legally) film there, and I have no idea how to get down there. But if anyone knows how to, I'd love to check that out.
Thanks.
I'd look into stadiums too. They have a lot of long hallways that open up into more open spaces. Even if you can't find something with a closed off room at the end, you may be able to use temporary barriers to make a more open space (like a narrow hallway leading to a much wider hallway) into a small room.
Another possibility, similar concept, would be malls. Most malls have narrow hallways meant for getting to the "back of house" areas, that open into the wide main thoroughfare of the mall. You might even be able to find a hallway that leads to a room exactly like you want.
I think both are can be rented out, but for a stadium it would need to be when theres no other event going on there.
I’d look into retail spaces in malls. They tend to have some back rooms that look like your photos. Also, are you looking for any actors by chance?
Cool I was planning on checking out chesterfield mall at some point. Looking at maps of the mall it looks like there are some “dead spaces” that could be promising. And yes I’m still looking for actors!
when do you need actors? if you need a woman age mid 20s-40s lmk or post the dates/times cuz I know a few people who might be interested
eta: plz and thank you of course
Contact the Virginia film office (if you haven't already). Their job is to attract filmmakers to va, if anyone would be able to get you into the city government, it would be them.
Technically all you need is a special use permit from the city (to do basically anything), and if you have insurance I doubt they'd care.
Can they get Vince Gilligan to film the next season of Pluribus here?
Check out Regency Mall near the JCPenney. That shop space gets rented out for various consignment sales, but there’s a lot of funky space in there and one might work for you.
Oh nice! Yea the second floor has some nice hallways. Maybe I’ll talk to mgmt there
Think Curtain Call rents that space on a yearly basis.
This is a good idea. Regency Mall itself may work, including inside Surge trampoline park maybe (they have long stretches of concrete space); the CARITAS warehouse; in Southside; inside Henderson Middle School in Northside; many businesses in Scott’s Addition?
Ask the Science Museum and the VMFA, the bowels of those buildings are full of long ass hallways
Richmond Raceway infield tunnel might work
Or the infield garage
I know somewhere that might work, I filmed my short at a warehouse location in RVA. I just PM'd you.
Not exactly what you’re looking for, but I know of a building with a very long enclosed concrete hallway (exactly as pictured). There is a small room at one end of the hall, but it doesn’t open horizontally like your image. It’s essentially just a large walk-in closet at the end of a hallway. Depending on your editing resources, it might be a good fit if you’re not able to find an alternative. You can’t necessarily tell the room isn’t larger from a distance. The hallway is a storage room in an old warehouse turned event venue, so you would be able to easily schedule a time to see it if you’re interested. Pm me if you’d like contact info

There is zero chance Facebook wants some random person to make “an educational film” for them, regardless of whether they let you use their space — which they won’t because of liability.
Anything’s possible. I’ve done some incredible things in my life just by asking.
The second worst thing that could happen is getting a “no”.
But the number one worst thing that could happen is letting decisions be ruled by assumptions and not taking action.
Like there are hallways without servers lining the walls? I’ll have to check that out
I have a condo in Church Hill with a massive hallway from the front entry door leading to a living/kitchen area, though it does have a wall of windows nearly the size of the entire exterior wall.
Oh nice, do you have any pictures?
The mixed use building I live in has kind of what you’re looking for in the hallways between offices, but the wall height might be too tall (~16ft?). Does the room at the end need to be symmetrical to the door?
It does not! As long as it’s a windowless hallway and a windowless room.
Production companies have warehouses full of props and flats that get reused. Flats are really cheap to make, and can be painted to be anything at any time. They pay for themselves over and over again. A good set painter knows the "camera's eye" and can fool perspective depending on the lens angle. Do a lot of research to have the knowledge you need for this job. It's way more than "what meets the eye". A bit of Tomfoolery can save a bunch of time. And in film seconds equal dollars. It's an immediacy that most do not understand. "The immediacy of film" was a concept that was hammered into the brain of everyone involved. Jump = how high. Don't ask questions...gogogo
P.S.
RIP Rick "Porkrind" Rollison. The most wonderful transportation coordinator ever to grace this planet. Thanks Rick, ya prick
P.S.S. Don't even get me started on continuity
I think if you had a way to do it you could use movie magic to turn the hallways in the storage space places into such a thing

Rent a space, build the set. Do you work in film or just pretending? There are these things we call flats. The mainstay of set building for a view like this.
This would be my first feature film. Just trying to save money, though I believe in the project enough to shell out and build a set if I have to
