Good morning, RVA! Hope you are all awakening refreshed and relaxed this Friday. What's your plan for the post-holiday weekend? I'm celebrating six years of sobriety today, which definitely overshadows any holiday stuff for me. Have a great day, y'all.
i found out last year while hospitalized that i had been misdiagnosed bipolar for years. this year, after getting on the right meds, i accomplished so much. i'm no longer homeless, i have a loving partner and kitty, my relationships have improved (especially with my family), and i reconnected with friends i had lost during that dark time of my life. i'm even returning to school in january!
i have brain damage from my misdiagnosis which sucks and all but i could not be happier. i am so grateful to my psychiatrist, my therapist, and all my loved ones. we had a very nice, chill christmas. it gets better, i promise!

So happy for you to have come such a long way :)
Congratulations and best of luck moving forward! What a great start to a new year
Amazing, congrats on 6 years! My 8 years was earlier this month- it does help put things in perspective. Whatever else is going on this year, Iāve moved on from that Christmas 8 years ago when I was a few weeks fresh out of the psych ward, living in a sober house with a curfew š
Congratulations on your sobriety!
I had to get up at 5am today to get to work. I worked ahead all week this week so should only be out til noon, then driving to Charlottesville to spend the weekend with the fam!
Thereās this sandwich place in Charlottesville I found called the Wich Lab which has really good stuffā gonna try to sneak in a quick bite between all the holiday food.
You should check out Marco and Luca in Charlottesville. Great dumplings, curry rice, and wonton soup
If they're even slightly from cville they know marco and Luca
Yep love that place!
Congratulations on 6 years!
My fridge is empty. I need to get some dang groceries and start eating clean again. My diet has been 90% cookies š¤£
Found Santaš
Hell yeah. Congrats on six years!
I'll be pretending to work from home today, and like u/awesome_possum_804 , I also need to go to the store to get some food that's not cookies.
Six years! Thatās amazing! Congratulations!
Congrats on six years! I'm going strong at 5.5. Tonight, I'll be at Gallery5 to see Mike Hawkins for Jazz Night. They've got some wonderful N/A options at the bar and will be unveiling their new mocktail menu on Sunday!
Congrats on your sobriety!!! The new spot in bon air The Gratitude Grill has an amazing mocktail you should try. Big fan as someone who doesnāt drink.
I woke up with a fever :( all plans have been cancelled it looks like a sick week is about to happen. Hoping itās not flu or covid but testing soon.
I'm looking at houses with my husband! We're trying to buy our first home so we can move out of rented apartments for good.
We've got next to no food, so I'm definitely making a grocery run eventually. And then hopefully just spend the weekend chilling and relaxing after all the time with extended family. I love my husband's family (I've been NC with my own for a while, so they're all I've got!) but I am exhausted.
Anyone else trying to find time to binge watch Stranger Things season 5 part 2 this weekend?
I amābut I have no idea when Iāll get the time. I have an out of town guest arriving on Monday and my spouse is sick, so Iām going to be pretty busy getting the all house ready while taking care of my boo.
Good luck on the house hunting! May you find something walkable and underpriced!
This is a great time for house hunting to get a good deal on your first home! My husband and I also looked at houses during the āoff seasonā and we were able to get a great price. Nobody wants to sell this time of year unless they absolutely have to, and thereās much less competition because fewer people are looking.
Tomorrow is ThanksMas for us, we dont do Thanksgiving in ourt house right now as our son is out of state most of the year at law school. He comes home for Christmas so we wrap it all up! So tommorrow all of our closest family friend will gather with us for a fried turkey and all the sides!
What a great pivot to keep the spirit of the holiday going!
Tried to go to the gym this morning and it was closed. ā¹ļø
The VCU gym on Main? Itās closed from 12/24-1/1, reopening on 1/2.
Itās the Crunch in Broad. Probably open now but was closed at 7:30am. Boo!!
Work. Working all weekend š
But hopefully organizing and cleaning my house soon. I am pretty obsessed with things being organized and when Christmas brings an influx of new items I get anxious until everything is tidy and in a proper place.
And congrats on 6 years! Iām at 2.5. Itās been great, sometimes hard, especially at holidays.
Congratulations on your sobriety!Ā
Congratulations to you!Ā
I just finished my at-home gym routine, and was going to check post-christmas sales, but I think I'm just going to read and visit my Animal Crossing island and maybe knit and build some Lego sets.Ā
My kiddo slept until 11 yesterday, we hosted lunch, and then opened presents. Christmas was an extended event, and turned out to be really enjoyable. I don't have any of that "where did it all go?!" melancholy that can sometimes haunt the holiday after such a build up.Ā
Congrats on your sobriety anniversary! I am glad you are proud of yourself.
I am relaxing with family today and a Christmas party tonight. Looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight!
Congratulations on your sobriety.
Post holiday weekend plans: I was once accused of not liking comedies, but what we find to be funny or scary is subjective. In Bruges is playing at the Byrd tomorrow night and I havenāt seen it ages. Itās like a fuckinā fairy taleā¦
With my winnings from yesterday I plan to explore some more shops to see what I want to treat myself to. Enjoying the lights, decorations, atmosphere for just a little longer.
Omg thank you!! I love that movie
Happy to help.
Congrats!!! Just celebrated 3 years in Oct, best decision I ever made.
I posted the other day about my sleep troubles, happy to report I made it to 7:15 today! However, I didn't realize how accustomed I'd become to having that quiet time to myself. Woke up with Grandma and my son this morning and it turns out I'm not ready to host in the first hour I'm awake.
But, complaints aside, it's been an excellent holiday. My son got way too many presents but his fav was a Minecraft plushie I bought used off FB Moms marketplace. It's arm ripped off like 3 hours after he got it, but my neighbor saved him with an offer for needle and thread. I anticipate fixing it again in the future as his top game seems to be launching it (by it's arm) down the stairs.
Are you Jon Hammās wallet because youāre lost? (I saw him live at Jimmy Kimmel last year and he shared two stories about how he keeps losing his wallet and people keep returning it)
Lol no it's a double entendre. I have the sense of humor of a 16 year old.
Lollll, We should all exist with a little more child like wonder (and humor)
Congratulations on six years! What an accomplishment!!!
First off congrats.
I've still got to pick up and make food. Wife worked Christmas eve and Christmas night. We doing family get together tomorrow.
Congrats on six years!!!
Gym, going to pick something up that I left at my Dadās yesterday, then work! Hopefully I can find some time to do some light cleaning and organizing.
It felt sacrilegious to climb 6 flights to steps back to my sad cubicle today but I gotta work off that big Christmas dinner somehow
Happy cake day to me. Going to take the family and disappear for the weekend to a mountain cabin in western N.C.
Work today, tidy up around the apartment, bake cookies tomorrow for some customers (and some more for a party on Sunday), work sunday morning, then a funeral at 4, then a party at 6. So, a mixed bag of a weekend lol
Congrats on your milestone. I am alcohol free for a few years myself, but I dont remember when I stopped, just that I did.
We are driving from Asheville after dinner tonight, going to be a long one but we need to get home for so many reasons. Mainly so I don't start drinking again.
Six years is something to be proud of - I'm also proud of you!!
I woke up a little gooey, so I'm taking it easy today & crossing my fingers nothing progresses. My house is a wreck and I still need to unload my car from spending the holiday with family out of town. I got a new microwave for Christmas (yay for practical gifts) but the switchout process involves removal and reorganization that I just don't want to deal with after weeks of running ragged. Wake me up in 2026.
Heck yeah, congrats!
š„³š„³
Im definitely watching the rerun of GSW v Mavs game on League Pass since I couldn't yesterday.
My little bro and I are heading to Home Depot to check/catalog some stuff for my house projects. First one being my front door. Has anyone replaced their own door? Is it doable?
Congrats on 6! Thatās rad
Norovirus seems to be making its way through our house. So far two kids are down but parents are still standing (knock wood). All of our plans with family were cancelled and we canāt reschedule until we know when weāre going to be done with it. Itās looking like RIP to our Charlottesville New Years/anniversary trip too. womp womp.
Got hit with the crud going around - Hang in there!
Congrats on the sobriety!
I am battling something that I could feel was coming on Christmas Eve night. Mainly just congestion with the occasional sneeze and unproductive cough. Hopefully I didn't spread it to the extended family yesterday, but I am tempted to tell my father that I don't feel well enough to help him with the new phone we got him for Christmas. It needs to get done, but I don't want to spread whatever it is I have.
Hopefully sorting through baby stuff. Husband finished painting earlier this week but needs help moving furniture up from the garage, and I donāt want to begin sorting until furniture is in place so the things have somewhere to go. Asked friends if they want to come over and help laterā¦so maybe it will be done today. This was the only week off I have before maternity leave so I really want to get it done.
Coffee and cookies. Is there any other way? Happy holidays people!
Congrats on your sobriety-versary!
Today is my birthday. Taking it slow at home today, but going out to dinner and ice cream later. My husband is taking me to Charlotte for a few days starting tomorrow. I told him I always had layovers there but never got to see the city, and he coordinated a trip for us.
Congrats on the sobriety! Iāve dabbled in long runs without alcohol and have enjoyed it. Iāll definitely do dry January and maybe longer. Sometimes itās nice to just keep it going and forget about some kind of arbitrary end date.
After too much indulgence during Christmas, I need to get moving. About to do my daily incline walk on the treadmill. 30 min at 3 mph on a 10 incline. Iāve done it for years so Iāve gotten a bit used to it so now Iāve added a 20lb weighted vest. Makes it a good challenge.
Running errands- we have our annual Holiday luncheon for a dozen closest friends tomorrow. Iām hoping the stores will be much quieter today especially TJās. Love that we have one in Bon Air so I should not complain but lord it gets crazy in there sometimes.
Other than that trying to relax this evening and enjoy my time off work.
Happy Friday everyone!
At least the Bon Air one is 100x better than Short Pump! In general I think all the Chesterfield chain stores are chiller than the West End ones, ESPECIALLY Costco. Yes, it gets crazy but the last time I was at the west end one it was ABSOLUTE CHAOS to the point that I looked at the woman behind me in line and said "this is hell. We are in hell. Right?" And she just looked at me with crazy eyes and nodded emphatically.
Lololol! Yeah I agree. I almost never go to the west end to shop. Weāre closer to chesterfield anyway.
Congratulations š
Go you! Cleaning the house today. Going to Maymont tomorrow.
Congrats so much on the sobriety....six years....awesome!
Feeling gratitude in being alive. Saw my brother, saw my aunt/step-uncle and cousins yesterday. Just grateful to be alive. Another day, another opportunity. And grateful I'm in this city that I love so much. Wishing nothing but the best for all of my fellow Richmonders.
Gym, Resumes, and Stranger Things!
Happy Boxing Day! Iād like to spend my Christmas money on a nice pair of knee high boots to wear with knee length dresses/skirts, but Iām having trouble figuring out where in the Richmond area to go.
Macyās and Dillardās are definitely options, but their quality has seemed hit or miss the last few times Iāve gone.
Iād like boots in real leather that can be cared for and repaired. I know there are a million options online, but Iād like to be able to try on the boots in person. Any recommendations?
I hit the back of my head last week and since then Iāve been pretty depressed and down in the dumps. Idk Iāve been just trying to recover from that before I have to work tomorrow. Also stayed sober through the holidays! 3 months and still going strong!
