At a point where almost every page contains something I’d like to comment about. We are in the endgame peeps:

- Seeing the word Kennit followed by a surname for the first ever time written on a page. Kennit Ludluck. Chills chills chills chills chills chills chills.

- This whole sequence of Kennit realising he’s about to meet Vivacia and his interactions with Bolt, his wrist charm, Wintrow and Etta are just the most peak fiction thing to ever exist.

- Ambers speech of being in a coin toss in the air, a card fluttering in the flip, a rune chip floating in stirred water… CHILLS CHILLS CHILLS CHILLS CHILLS CHILLS.

- That whole sequence was just so perfectly done. Hobb does this thing where when a scene has the capacity to take on this grandeur, larger than life fantasy moment, she drags it right back down to reality. Instead of a huge swashbuckling battle breaking out, the serpents go ape shit, accidentally attack themselves and then flee before Kennit just invades Paragon in 2 seconds LOL. It was messy and abrupt like real life is. Regal could have died in a big dramatic overthrowing, instead he was off screened. Kyle was shaping up to be a major big bad, instead a bigger shark in life turned up and just made him go away. Makes this world feel so honest and real.

  • I've been really enjoying these posts as I'm reading the trilogy at a very similar pace to you! I've read ahead of this post now though so really excited to see what you think of the next few chapters.

The revelations about Kennit and Paragon have honestly been some of the most incredibly satisfying reading ever - it's been built up so well and now ... Wow
