It can also be in the end pages or in the cover itself. I'm an assistant librarian and sometimes the info can be hard to find. I'm sorry I wasn't much help.
I’ve found it ! Just had to open my eye… sorry all so it’s Marc Simonetti I think he is a French illustrator, so no John Howe. But I’ve been to a John Howe expo in Switzerland, and there was an illustration for the Royal Assassin. I was not that wrong !

Si tu as le livre chez toi, le nom de l'illustrateur sera forcément dedans.
John Howe has done the English covers so might be he's done the French too. If you've got the book the information should be on the cover leaf.
I think you responded in a way, I’ve got the book but can’t find it on the cover leaf

I was able to find this: https://fitzandthefool.livejournal.com/127536.html which goes through a few different versions of the french editions.
Without knowing the exact version you're referring to, I can't help you further than that.
Thank you, but none of the cover on your list are the one I got 😅 I’ll try to post it
Oh, sorry! It's hard to help when it's a country I have so little knowledge of. Yes, I think pictures will really help. And publisher, year, etc.
No problem, I’ve found it. it’s a Marc Simonetti illustration. But I’ve seen in an expo a John Howe illustration so I was not that wrong 😄
Fantastic! His art is really good, I love how dramatic it is. He's done amazing work for so many books through the years :)
