• I wish we had the great player instead of the terrible one

Great? He’s a gold glove 3B who the Cubs in 2027 will RUE signing for 5 years.

i’m talking about rafael devers and jordan hicks

I wish they used the money they saved ditching him to actually sign players so we didn't rank 7th to last in the MLB in payroll as a percentage of revenue

  • Also 30ish million for a year of Sonny Gray and 12 million for Sandoval. You can argue they have a high payroll (they do) but the argument loses weight when you see who they’re spending it on. Those contracts will fall off soon and they’ll be right back to middle of the pack payroll wise which is where they want to be while taking in all our money

They rank 23rd in the league in payroll as a percentage of revenue. They don't have a high payroll they have a middling payroll. It's like 12th in the league which would be maybe considered high if you were in a mid-market but they have the six largest television market in the second largest ticket prices

The owner bought the team for $600 million and it's worth $6 bill. Stop making excuses for John Henry this is poverty franchise stuff and it's embarrassing n

  • Guys, Devers made sure he ran himself out of town. Please accept this

I heard he stopped to kick a puppy on his way out of Fenway

No. Bad take. The Red Sox front office and management ran Devers out of town.

You need to rethink everything you just said, because you’re crazy.

  • A lot that Devers future money was put into smart extensions of core guys

They should have been extending those guys anyway? In fact Crochet was extended with Devers on the team! Fell for it again award.

Wasn't Anthony the only extension done after the trade?

And there’s no way they wouldn’t have extended him with Devers on the team, anyone pretending otherwise is lying

    Yupp.

Such FSG propaganda/an easy cop out for unaware fans to treat the Devers situation and Roman extension as an "either/or' situation

    Poverty franchise thinking.

That would be very sad if true

Is the smart extensions with core guys in the room with us right now?

They extended one guy. And it wasn’t an either/or situation. Stop bootlicking for a billionaire who just wants your money while we get a worse product on the field.

No they weren't. Those players were cost controlled for 6 years anyways. What that does is save them money during arbitration and the year after that it has nothing to do with this year's payroll. Other than maybe giving them a slight bump

They ranked 23rd in the league in payroll as the percentage of revenue you cannot pretend that they are spending in a way that's consistent with the sixth largest market in the league in the second highest ticket prices.
