That really isn’t what happened. They wanted out of the Devers contract no matter what. It wasn’t because they had Bregman. If they had the ghost of Pokey Reese at third they still would have traded Devers.
Sure, signing Bregman pissed off Devers. But something would have done it anyway. He was a lousy 3rd baseman and only getting worse.
If Devers’ contract was an issue for this team, it’s a joke of a franchise that we shouldn’t support. 10 years with 31 AAV is a fantastic contract for one of the best bats in baseball
I’m just saying what the deal was. None of us really know the whole story. I certainly think Devers himself was an issue and not somebody they wanted anymore.
It's all about cash flow and value. So long as they get the tourist amd merchandise money, all is good. They are no longer stewards of a historic franchise. Henry is treating it like he did the Marlins.
Their aggressive offers are always much lower than what the player actually signs for. This ownership is a joke! Yet the pink hat skinny wearing BMW driving fans will still go. You couldn't give me free tickets to go
John Henry just makes it sound like they’re making big offers and in on players and lie to the fans so the fans don’t get mad in my opinion it’s time this mofo sells the team
You know, I am honestly happy I’m seeing so much anger after so many of us were being called doomers. When the Gray move happened, this all was so very predictable.
I don't hate the Gray acquisition. His numbers are impressive. Whether or not they stay impressive is another story...
But face value it was the best move of the off-season
The move in a vacuum is fine. But if it’s a big market team’s marquee addition then that is problematic. And before we mention what have the Yankees done this year, it should be noted the Yankees have been incredibly active the past several years. We did a damn good job acquiring Crochet but that is it.
I'm not at ALL suggesting that the Sox ownership has actually been trying... I was just pushing back on the Gray acquisition being lackluster. I myself was hoping we'd package some prospects to get a Skubal or a Skenes, as well as resigning Bregman. Obviously we've done none of these things.
And despite his "interest" in mentoring young players, it was always about the money. I am reminded of when Xander left. And how's that working for the Padres?
Something something they actually increased payroll because trades. 40ish million of that is just one year of Sonny Gray and Patrick Sandoval. This team is a joke
bregman not coming back isn’t what stings, it’s that we traded our homegrown franchise star in favor of alex bregman just to lose both anyways 😁🔫
💯

That bastard even took Samuel Adams money
I don’t get it but I want to
I also want to get Samuel Adams money
Put his name on a beer, did commercials for it.
Team is a joke. We’re being held hostage by a ghoul of an owner who doesn’t give af anymore
These owners suck; more into other teams and MONEY than Sox and WINNING.
More half ass measures by this limp dick organization.
Run by the king of private equity
Just sell already so you can buy your basketball team
Why did they want a small market team to begin with?
It's all about cash flow and value. So long as they get the tourist amd merchandise money, all is good. They are no longer stewards of a historic franchise. Henry is treating it like he did the Marlins.
Interest Kings!
I'm just so disgusted with what this organization has become.
But see, the new banner to hang on the green monster….
It hit different seeing our star leave for Bergman and still end up losing anyway
The rule of thumb is take the winning offer and subtract 15%, that’s the red sox aggressive offer
How many blue chews JH take a night. He’s so out a the game he probably seeing this tweet like the rest of us.
Wut?

They keep on trying to get leftover players for a cheap price… making the Sox nation look stupid !
I’m in shock… I was almost certain he was gonna sign. I wonder why though? Sox offer was pretty similar and I know he enjoyed his time in Boston.
Unpopular take here, but I think the 100% commitment to analytics turns off a lot of players.

Yes. Let’s not forget how bad Devers was at 3b.
