... neither of which are candidates for the DH spot though? A log-jam in the outfield doesn't affect the DH question in any way.
It puts pressure on them to do something with Yoshida, if anyone. Following him on the list of "what do", it would be Duran & Kristian Campbell. Wilyer is off the table, and Casas has no trade value as of now.
If we have all four of Duran, Rafaela, Abreu, and Anthony. One of them is going to DH(other than Rafaela) vs RHP. Why would you have Masa DH’ing over say Duran if it’s Anthony, Rafaela, Abreu in the outfield. Neither can hit LHP and Duran is better vs RHP, way better on the base paths.
Well for that. A starter or an impact player somewhere else. It will definitely be a cat and mouse game of how much Casas is pressuring them and if they get the value they want back for Duran or Abreu. Although trades usually don’t happen early in the season after it’s started.
A lot of people love putting him down for painting his nails, calling it selfish or a distraction. Given that he started doing it as a way to spend quality time with his mother before she died when he was nine, I found the selfishness accusations bizarre. (If nobody decided to care so much about what grown adults wear and do, the world would be a better place).
His interviews have always been thoughtful, and his teammates last year mentioned several times how much they loved him staying in the dugout and cheering him on whenever his rehab permitted.
It’s honestly what I feel like we should expect from him. He can say some interesting things at times but he’s usually pretty realistic about the roster.
Fucking thank you. I get the FO made some mistakes but none of that is an excuse to do what Devers did to his team and his employer. Dude is playing a child hood game for generational wealth.
The only season he played a meaningful amount of games (132) he had a 129 OPS+ with a .490 SLG%. The ability is there. The ability to stay on the field is the problem.
Who the hell talks about him like Babe Ruth?? People correctly say that he is a good hitter when he was healthy because he is, if that makes you angry you might need to reflect on that.
Truth. I met him during spring training a couple of years ago when nobody was around. He’s personable, smart and wise beyond his years. Everyone has quirks and he believes his work for him. People should leave him alone.
Ya back in the 70's they had Bill Lee who had that type of personality. Some found him interesting and fun, others were stuffy towards him. A different personality is always good! Today more people are inclined to just hate...sad reality
My theory is that he is the avatar for people's hate of TFG. He was the guy that was talked about as the future when things were probably at their very darkest so he got pinned with everyone's frustration about management, the master plan, lack of spending, etc.
Baseball also attracts a stodgier, more old fashioned crowd than other pro sports. The nail polish and yoga stuff might as well be flag burning to that crowd.
Hope the Red Sox dont move him. Due to injury I dont believe anyone really knows one way or another what you really have in Casas. One thing we do know is he has shown he is patient at the plate and does not normally chase pitches out of the strike zone. He sees alot of pitches which can translate into a high OBP which leads to good things. He does have some power in that bat and the Sox certainly could use that in the middle part of the order.
Love the comment, respectful to the veteran, humble, but also "as if right now" showing his confidence. If Casas hits he'll play, whether at 1st , DH, or a bit of both
I've been waiting for the rise of a homegrown power hitting 1B since Youk. Really hope this is Casas' breakout year and he ends up with a career closer to Anthony Rizzo than the likes of Lars Anderson, & Bobby Dalbec.
The expectations have bled into reality, so people actually think he's good. He had a 21-game stretch from late June through July 2023. Then a decent 10-game stretch that September. That's it. You can bet he got chewed out after he said the rookies shouldn't break camp because "we’ve got some grown men up there right now." So this "candor" everyone is glazing him for is him just towing the company line (for once,) not some newly found zen.
It’s totally fair to critique a player for their playing but I despise people who hate Casas just because of who he is. He’s a genuine and smart guy but the boomers will shit their pants because he paints his nails and does yoga before games sometimes
Wow. What a great response. I still believe in Casas. He’s had a rough few years with injuries but his swing is smooth as butter and I think he can still be a really good player.
I don't know if I trust him to stay healthy, and not sure he'll ever have a year as good as his rookie year again... but Casas is legitimately a good dude. Here's hoping he can stay healthy and rebuild his value.
I like the team first sentiment but would prefer if he spun that around at the end like the move lit a fire under him instead of “woe is me” sounding defeated. Maybe I need to listen to the whole thing
Lol sounds like someone has learned he's not gonna be publicly weird toward the team anymore.
Edit: I like Casas, but if you guys think they didn't address that Instagram caption with him, you're mistaken. Remember how we kept hearing he was going to be all over the clubhouse documentary and then he's not in it except for when he's dunking on someone retiring? I love that he's such a weirdo, but he clearly has a bit of a mouth
Best possible comment he could be making here, love to see that from him.
It’s a remarkably selfless comment
Makes me pretty sad, honestly. Hope he finally puts it all together this year! 🤞
It’s sad but he 100% has a way to earn a spot. DH. If he is pushing for that DH spot I think it will put pressure on them to trade Duran or Abreu.
... neither of which are candidates for the DH spot though? A log-jam in the outfield doesn't affect the DH question in any way.

Why would you trade a good glover or another guy worth over 4 WAR for two straight seasons? Not unless you are getting a starter for either of them.
Well for that. A starter or an impact player somewhere else. It will definitely be a cat and mouse game of how much Casas is pressuring them and if they get the value they want back for Duran or Abreu. Although trades usually don’t happen early in the season after it’s started.

He’ll go far in Boston with great comments like this
It’s honestly what I feel like we should expect from him. He can say some interesting things at times but he’s usually pretty realistic about the roster.
Yep.
To everyone who still doesn't understand why Devers was traded: That is how a team player responds to a personnel change.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Yes.
💯 This.
Fucking thank you. I get the FO made some mistakes but none of that is an excuse to do what Devers did to his team and his employer. Dude is playing a child hood game for generational wealth.
Yes, and it even sounds almost too intelligent---but then he is a smart guy.
If nothing else, Casas has always been honest. Credit to him
Definitely the kind of attitude that will carry him to a lengthy career. The talent is absolutely there.
It is?
The only season he played a meaningful amount of games (132) he had a 129 OPS+ with a .490 SLG%. The ability is there. The ability to stay on the field is the problem.
That was 4 years ago at this point
Dude he still has a career ops above .800
2023 Baseball Savant page. For my money, he's the most underrated player on the team by fans.

He’s the most overrated. If he wasn’t pretty odd no would be nearly as obsessed with him. It’s strange
Oh be quiet, Casas is our king.
Are you sure you just don't like him because he's "odd"? People show you he has good stats and you just close your eyes and disagree
I honestly am not a big fan of his because of this sub. He’s talked about like he’s babe Ruth!
Who the hell talks about him like Babe Ruth?? People correctly say that he is a good hitter when he was healthy because he is, if that makes you angry you might need to reflect on that.
They always say the quiet part out loud.
Pretty obvious what his issues are with Casas. There’s been an air of homophobia around the dude since got called up.
The loudest voices regarding Casas since his injury are the ones who take issue with his personal stature. He’s going to be a good player.
People that hate on casas can pound fucking sand
Truth. I met him during spring training a couple of years ago when nobody was around. He’s personable, smart and wise beyond his years. Everyone has quirks and he believes his work for him. People should leave him alone.

Casas is who we wish Duran was.
i got downvoted to shit in the Contreras trade thread when i suggested that the fanbase has heeled on him way too fast
Who hates on casas?
I respect the honesty and maturity
Man that’s awesome from Tristan. My guess is when he’s ready he will play some 1B against RHP and DH some.
How do people not like this guy?
I know he's had a hard time staying on the field and that annoys people, but he loves the org and wants to win badly.
he answers questions in non-athlete speak so everyone’s convinced he’s a distraction or whatever.
dumbest people
My theory is that he is the avatar for people's hate of TFG. He was the guy that was talked about as the future when things were probably at their very darkest so he got pinned with everyone's frustration about management, the master plan, lack of spending, etc.
I also think some of our fans are frankly miserable whiners lol
Baseball also attracts a stodgier, more old fashioned crowd than other pro sports. The nail polish and yoga stuff might as well be flag burning to that crowd.

I want this kid to be good so bad, but he needs to get and stay healthy. Great attitude by him though.
Just get healthy please!
I want to let it go, but if only someone else had this attitude last year…😞
All the people who want to rag on Henry and Breslow when it was Devers with the unprofessional, bad attitude.
Send the quote to Raffy and tell him this is what an adult sound like.
Love the comment, respectful to the veteran, humble, but also "as if right now" showing his confidence. If Casas hits he'll play, whether at 1st , DH, or a bit of both

Youk= “Power hitting 1B?” He hit over 20 HR twice.
The expectations have bled into reality, so people actually think he's good. He had a 21-game stretch from late June through July 2023. Then a decent 10-game stretch that September. That's it. Say what you will about Casas, but you’ve gotta respect the humility.
🥹
That’s a magnanimous and very diplomatic comment.
It’s totally fair to critique a player for their playing but I despise people who hate Casas just because of who he is. He’s a genuine and smart guy but the boomers will shit their pants because he paints his nails and does yoga before games sometimes
that’s really mature of him.
Casas at DH and Contreras at 1B is gonna feed families (at the 99 specifically)
No starving kids this year!
Wow. What a great response. I still believe in Casas. He’s had a rough few years with injuries but his swing is smooth as butter and I think he can still be a really good player.
Rehab to start the season with WooSox and go from there.
I’d love to see him swing that bat and be more aggressive.
Never understood the hate he gets, career 800 ops, odd dude for sure, who cares
Hope he gets back on track
They can neve make me hate you Triston
Has anyone checked in with Casas to see if he is willing to play third base?
i'm so ready to the Casas Comeback Tour
Casas reminds me so much of Greinke. Just pure no-bullshit honesty regardless of the circumstances. Love them both
What a solid and mature comment! God love him!
That level of candor takes astounding humility.
And self-awareness.
And a stern lecture from top brass.
Of course. The evil overlord Henry is mandating players to disseminate propaganda. Sounds reasonable.
I was referring to Casas’ critique of the roster last spring.
I want this dude to figure it out and stay healthy so fucking bad. Absolute professional that will probably grow into a phenomenal leader.
I'll always believe in Casas.
Rare display of maturity in today's sports world. Hard not to root for Casas. Hope he finds his form and contributes this season.
Maybe I need to listen to the whole thing
good response
Damn.
I like this kid so much, thats a great response.
Very mature and self aware statement. I would love to see what he can do with a fully healthy body for a full season
Wow if that happened to me I’d be mad, good for him
Wow. surprised…but very impressed. Let’s keep him!
👑 💩
Meanwhile Devers is literally the worst at his position and publicly complains he's being moved from it.
Glad he didn't take the devers approach.
He is a team player through and through. Love this kid.
Sounds like we got our staring 1B for the Woo Sox
You go Triston, great way to react. Hope he recovers okay and goes back to his best level. His at bats will be very interesting with the ABS
Is this the first time he’s said something that isn’t weird and/or stupid?
Lol sounds like someone has learned he's not gonna be publicly weird toward the team anymore.
Edit: I like Casas, but if you guys think they didn't address that Instagram caption with him, you're mistaken. Remember how we kept hearing he was going to be all over the clubhouse documentary and then he's not in it except for when he's dunking on someone retiring? I love that he's such a weirdo, but he clearly has a bit of a mouth
What a weird comment
He’s not publicly weird. He’s always been honest.
😂 I mean he's always been publicly weird, even when being honest.. I'm not even sure he would disagree that he's weird
I don't see that at all. Casas has made plenty of honest, insightful comments like this in the past in addition to the silly stuff.
I'm not saying this isn't an honest and insightful comment, I'm just saying the dude clearly has kind of a mouth
Edit: 😂 okay guys, I take it back, Casas definitely has a filter and it never causes issues
How much do you think he regrets not taking the long term deal?
