[ggeiss_mlb] Mikey Romero finished off last season on a scorching hot note, going 18-for-66 (.273) with an .856 OPS and 113 wRC+ over his last 16 games. The 21yo was also one of three Sox players to finish inside MiLB's T30 EV90 gainers in '25, adding 4.3 mph

    How good is his defense?

poor enough that SoxProspects think he might have to be a corner OF

2 Kristian Campbells are better than one as they say

haha yup, we appreciate Mikey's underslot bonus allowing us to sign Roman Anthony though

Insane that we grabbed Anthony in the 2nd round. Dude single handedly adds a whole level of optimism to my outlook of this team. We all saw the offense crumble without him.

It was nice having someone to legitimately look forward to watch hit again

He's listed as a utility infielder but is much stronger at 3B than at 2B. Potential average to maybe slightly above average 3B, solidly below average 2B.

Had a great interview that was posted to SoxProspects last week: https://news.soxprospects.com/2026/01/following-2025-success-mikey-romero.html

    Below avarage I'm pretty sure

Let's just say he's going to have to hit like Johnny Damon to stick in the majors as a left fielder.

Hits the ball hard, when he hits it. Some rough chase numbers in there.

If he's a good hitter, why doesn't he hit good?

    .273 is scorching hot?

The OPS is very good for a 21 year old, his chase rate and defense seem less than desirable. He does hit the ball hard though and has good bat speed.

So we're going to have a Roman a Romy and a Romero?

"Scorching hot" is 13% better than average over 16 games? 4.3 mph gain on the EV90 is promising though.

ah so THIS is why they didn't sign Bregman, they have this guy...

(shrug) It's pretty slow for Sox news when one can just declare some nice stats in a small sample size for various prospects. We can make a post about every Sox prospect and glow about particulars, but it's probably best to just settle on 'let's see him do it again before we get too hyped up'.

I hate living in a time when .273 is “scorching hot”
