Portland. I don't know any details but the neighbors are very agitated and helicopters are hovering. Lots of rumors circling about what happened, I guess the world will know more soon enough.

  • Border Patrol is allowed to operate within 100 miles of a border, and the coastline counts for their purposes. 2/3s of all Americans are covered by that.

    International airports also technically count.

Keeping those filthy canucks out. Us us us us

do it before the Blue Jays game next 🙏🏿

It’s a detail. I’m on the same for HSI at an undisclosed city. It could be forced or they put in for it. I was forced, much rather be dealing with ridding the nation of Indian scam rings.

Allegedly border patrol is more radical than ICE. Thats why they are everywhere

  • One consequence of J.D. Vance using the term "absolute immunity" is that federal law enforcement officers will hear this and come to the correct conclusion: that they can shoot people with impunity.

Ya, who's going to prosecute them?

Exactly. In Minnesota they’re not letting the local governments investigate.

JD graduated from Yale law school. He’s smart and 100% knows hes lying and there’s no defense for that statement when he’s saying it which makes me hate him even more.

JD saying demonic shit like this really puts a damper on my excitement for when DT croaks

I used to see people say shit like “oh he won’t be as reckless and rude as trump so that’s a plus” and it’s like yeah I think that’s actually worse. We’re going to have some calculated ghoul pulling the strings then

True, but the one positive is Vance doesn't have 1/10th of the charisma trump has so he won't be able to galvanize the base

he was a DEI admit but smart enough to know better

This and they were so desperate to expand their goon squad that they hired any trigger happy mouth breather with a pulse.

  • i heard he was Hamas

Apparently over a 100 of em are former IDF and get training from IDF. Same playbook obviously

Literally anyone driving a car is now considered a threat to these pussies apparently. ICE is the vanguard of the move toward walkable cities, I guess.

Oh well oh hell as they say

Is this even CBP's jurisdiction? The fuck are they doing outside of PDX Airport?

The 100 mile border zone encompasses some huge percentage of the population. I think like 70%. Portland’s definitely in it. I think inside the zone they have enhanced authority. Outside it they are just regular feds. So virtually everywhere.

They have jurisdiction within 100 miles of any border, some years back there were articles about them calling them constitution free zones

    Fyi border includes international airports.

  • For context: this appears to have happened in a very weird part of Portland where it's normal for there to be side-streets that are gravel or dirt roads (at least, it was true over 10 years ago - I assume nothing has changed?) and it would also be normal for there to be zero immediate witnesses if two people were gunned down by border patrol because east of 82nd, it turns into a sparser kind of suburbia.

The shooting was at the Adventist hospital by gateway and then the people ICE shot fled and called portland police like a half mile east of there on Burnside. Definitely the part of Portland where all the gravel roads are, but this happened on main streets.

  • The israelification of America

DHS to start carpet bombing hospitals tomorrow.

Jokes aside...America is so utterly broken that I'm pretty sure a good chunk of the population would be on board with bombing a hospital in a blue city if it means a few fictitious MS13/Tren De Aragua/Sinaloa/Khamas/Khizbollah members were in non-existent tunnels underneath.

  • The government will continue to kill people they deem undesirable and each time it will take a part of our collective soul

Being an undesirable vs desirable doesn’t matter anymore.

Soon, they WILL kill a gun-toting conservative pastor who just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the government will still twist him into an elite antifa terrorist acting as a mole in the republican party to assassin*te trump himself. It really doesn’t matter whether you fall in line with the party or not. The only way to avoid the firing line is to be one of the executioners.

True, the dividing line between desirable and undesirable continues to edge toward state and non-state agent

  • portland? the president has effectively given them shoot to kill orders, whether they're an american citizen or proven not.

It's scary but no one knows what happened yet. It seems like someone found them unresponsive and drove them to the hospital. The agents left the scene. I think the victims are alive.

Aren't cops supposed to render aid if they shoot someone??? On top of the executions with impunity how can they get away with leaving people for dead?

another “they tried to run me down” shooting

It's a standard DHS tactic that's been used for at least a decade.

As we've reported, the panel found that in many cases Border Patrol officers were discharging their weapons out of frustration, rather than to guard their safety. It also suggested that officers were purposely placing themselves in front of moving vehicles, and then shooting at them.

The CBP PERF report that the agency itself eventually accepted noted:

It is suspected that in many vehicle shooting cases, the subject driver was attempting to flee from the agents who intentionally put themselves into the exit path of the vehicle, thereby exposing themselves to additional risk and creating justification for the use of deadly force. In most of these cases, the agents have stated that they were shooting at the driver of a vehicle that was coming at them and posing an imminent threat to their life. In some cases, passengers were struck by agents’ gunfire. Little focus has been placed on defensive tactics that could have been used by shooting agents such as getting out of the way. It should be recognized that a ½ ounce (200 grain) bullet is unlikely to stop a 4,000 pound moving vehicle, and if the driver of the approaching vehicle is disabled by a bullet, the vehicle will become a totally unguided threat. Obviously, shooting at a moving vehicle can pose a risk to bystanders including other agents.

CBP policy should beAgents shall not discharge their firearms at or from a moving vehicle unless deadly physical force is being used against the police officer or another person present, by means other than a moving vehicle.” Training and policy changes should be implemented to implement this policy

Of course, suggested guidelines means little, especially when the state has decided to do away with prior fig leaves and norms.

yeah i was saying this yesterday. we're acting like this is the first time the cops shot a motorist for some bullshit. i mean, philando castille? that kid who was shot by the college police? she's not even the first white lady who was lit up like that.

Its kinda funny that you went into his post history to try to refute a direct quote that is linked in the comment

Never claimed to be a "trusted authority" and that's irrelevant to accuracy here: look at the actual specific documents posted, details, sourcing, and reality.

youre on postleftist ground here, brother. do a land acknowledgment to marx and fisher rn

At least these people are alive and can testify

The whole "self defense" argument makes no sense to me at all. Even if she was trying to run him over (which she pretty clearly wasn't), why would you pull out a gun and shoot the driver in the head when the most logical and natural thing would be just to move out of the way of the moving vehicle? How is that anyone's first split-second response unless they're already looking for any excuse to kill someone?

i think what they usually say is that they were trying to prevent further carnage. i know it's bullshit. i'm trying to tell what they might be thinking.

Yeah I live by the 205 freeway which is where the shooting happened.

This is why an SS comparison is apt

  • I saw on Twitter that DHS is claiming the two victims were Venezuelan gang-members. Color me skeptical

  • Nothing ever happens crowd down horrendous, at least people can say regard again though right

It’s kinda nothing ever happens when people in this country have been murdered by LE since the beginning of time

To me “nothing ever happens” means that the only things that happen are events that you experience through a screen. In your day to day life nothing few big changes occur that actually affect your experience in person

It's Voltaire's "One must cultivate one's own garden".

The violent coup happening in Constantinople doesn't affect your farm or family in the slightest. Getting worked up over things you don't control and won't affect your life will just make you miserable.

    Repeat after me:

“If I have to go to work tomorrow, nothing really happened.”

Why in the world do you believe this constitutes "something happening"?

Nothing is going to happen. They're going to survive and when the facts came out they probably tried to run over the officers or the situation will be more nuanced than depicted by the pitchforks.

Even if that is the case something already happened yesterday, it’s probably not a good thing ICE agents are being sent into cities and shooting people and arresting citizens, I’d imagine there is a more tactical way to go after criminals

So glad to have insiders like you to keep everyone in check

  • What the fuck

IDK about other people, but I'm almost feeling like ICE might've been told to escalate things - fellow American lives be damned - to try to provoke a reaction that'd lead to a justification to invoke the Insurrection Act and/or martial law or whatever, because Trump and his admin/attempted 1st American regime could see the walls clearly closing in on so many fronts that are hard to overstate, with the few Epstein files about Trump that got through their (criminal/illegal in contravention of congress) cartoonish redactions over the Christmas week being the cherry on top of it all.

I felt like desperate and dangerous thrashing was predictable/likely as a result, but I've actually been shocked by how blatant, insane and fast-paced its been: in addition to the sudden ICE/lawless state violence, Trump just posted a bit ago that he wants to raise the military budget to $1.5 trillion (twice the already massive ~$700 billion average annual budget, which was already larger than the next top 8 nation's military spending combined), after the "BBB" already raised it to an obscene $1.1 trillion.

We're way past the Rubicon at this point.

So, it’s basically right-wing accelerationism. I wouldn’t put it past them.

They don't have to be explicitly told to shoot people. Cops will try and hurt you as much as they legally can. If they can justify a ticket they'll give you a ticket, if they can justify a tazing a tazing, a shooting a shooting.

This is a natural consequence of them being shown being shown they can just shoot you in the head with zero consequences.

I hear what you're saying and that's why I was a little equivocal in what I wrote above, but I'm not married to my thoughts above or about what's happening: I think like a lot of people I know, I'm just preoccupied by the moment more than usual even considering the chaotic sociopolitical era we've been steeped in over the last decade since the 2016 election and Trump's first win.

In that sense - all I can really say is that I feel like we're at a clear inflection point, and it's one I also feel like is part of a larger one we've been increasingly falling into since Reagan's obliteration of the Democrats in 1980 and '84, the adoption of the Reaganomic paradigm largely across both major parties and the dismantling of the New Deal's, where we've ended up again at a point where income inequality has been at least as bad if not worse by some metrics for the last decade than it was directly preceding the Great Depression, with regressive corporate and billionaire-margin effective tax rates to match.

The social contract has near if not entirely broken down now to an honestly obscene point, and of course, the mega-wealthy have taken advantage of the frustration over this by sowing division and getting people (especially the still MAGA faithful holding on, right now) to point their fingers at everything but the actual problem, or as Thomas Pynchon wrote in Gravity's Rainbow: “If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don’t have to worry about answers", for which Trump is both like this court jester for the plutocracy and extremely predictable demagogue that can rise out of all the above conditions, when they get bad enough.

In terms of state violence and what you're bringing up with police more specifically: I feel like we're at a point where what's happened over the last couple days is currently evoking in most Americans (including most users in this sub, and anecdotally even a solid chunk of right-leaning types) an awareness of the Hegelian "universal dimension" Zizek talked about re: identity politics and police violence right after the George Floyd stuff went down in late May 2020 (if anyone who reads this actually watches the vid at the link - if you don't watch it in full, it'll seem to some at the start that Zizek is arguing the opposite of what he actually does in total).

I feel like I'm going to get shit on or some sarcastic response about writing too much, but for anyone who has thoughts on the above, I welcome them: I guess I'm just engaging with the moment.

I feel like I'm going to get shit on or some sarcastic response about writing too much, but for anyone who has thoughts on the above, I welcome them: I guess I'm just engaging with the moment.

I'm insanely angry at cops, and the American government right now and wouldn't want to attack anyone sympathetic at all to this position. I just thought it was probably simpler, I'll give the video a watch.

wants to raise the military budget to $1.5 trillion (twice the already massive ~$700 billion average annual budget,

With what money? From where? Rhetorical questions, I admit, but something's gonna give, he must be aware that even raiding a LatAm country like Venezuela won't materialize $700-800 billion out of thin air over night.

  • And there are already pig freaks celebrating this act of state terrorism as well

inflaming tensions and triggering protests which provide a pretext for declaring an insurrection and instituting martial law is their plan, this plays directly into their hands (while also distracting from ongoing international and economic tensions)

why wouldn't the ghouls running the social media accounts celebrate this? their plan is working perfectly.

you riot, they win. you peacefully protest, they’ll make sure to provoke you into an actual riot. you don’t riot, they win without even having to do anything. i genuinely think america is past the point of no return and i’m (selfishly, as a balkaner) afraid what this means for about half of the world. the political class in fragile/partly free democracies are just waiting for a few signals to backslide (or even to embrace the new technofeudal ethos, if they’re smart). not to make it about me but i feel like something will actually finally happen to all of us, big time

yes, we are headed for tough times, i don't see any way around it. it seems like it's coming pretty quickly. if not this year, then certainly by the end of Trump's current term. but they have a strong motivation for triggering chaos this year, because as it stands right now Trump will lose much of his mandate in the coming midterm elections this november unless some crisis or emergency is declared.

but don't lose hope, times of upheaval have historically created space for new growth, and the harder the pigheads try to crack down, the harder the reactionaries try to squeeze, more will slip through their hands.

the more nakedly corrupt these ghouls show themselves to be, the more people will see through their lies and begin to organize along the lines that human communities always have throughout our long, long history. our current hierarchical civilizational structure is just a thin veneer over a much deeper history where things were organized differently

(there is a great book about this called "the dawn of everything" by David Graeber and David Wengrow, or the work of Marija Gimboutas, who was from your area)

i always try to remember...prairie fires clear the ground for new growth...we just have to make it through the fire first. and i feel like the fire is coming soon.

they will probably start it off with a shocking event, one which disrupts the infrastructure our current world system is built on (economic, technological, maybe even utilities like electricity, gas, and water for the time it takes them to institute martial law- say, 10 days to 3 weeks).

if you haven't already, i suggest gathering enough supplies that you could live self-sufficiently for at least a week or three. and if you live in a big city, make a plan for getting out of town to someplace more quiet where you know people. the countryside will probably not be as strongly effected as densely-populated urban areas. people there still usually know their neighbors (and even if they gossip about them, they'll still be willing to work together to survive, i think)

and if you haven't already, cultivate a connection to God! (or whatever name you choose for the power connecting and underlying the universe).

i strongly feel that more than anything else, a connection to the source of Life which is outside this visible, tangible, sensible realm will be the most valuable asset in the times to come.

sorry for the rant! but it's good to type words, it relieves the pressure inside my head somehow. i too have been watching events unfold this past week with a sinking feeling in my stomach. it seems like they are desperate to kick things off for some reason, and moving faster than usual. maybe, paradoxically, it's a reason for hope- when people are desperate, they make mistakes.

literally. they just want to be able to federalize the national guard and unleash them on left-leaning cities — which is what they’ve been trying to do all along but have been blocked by the courts.

  • man what the fuck is going on in the US

  • increasingly bad look for this administration

Yeah guys i think they might have gone a little TOO far this time

I’m starting to think things aren’t going really well these days in America!

I think it's fair to say that there is plenty of room for improvement and we should try to facilitate growth and mindfulness.

  • That link only works for people who have that awful app

Works on desktop at least. Relevant bit calling them husband and wife, but with no attribution:

The shooting occurred when federal agents stopped a married couple in their car, per a report from CNN. The husband was shot in the arm, and the wife was shot in the chest. Their condition is unknown.

Edit: OregonLive also suggesting they were married

One was shot in the leg and the other in the chest, Portland police sources said. They are believed to be a married couple. Police said they didn’t know their immediate conditions.

I saw a rumor that she died. Anything on that?

  • Rightoids officially giving up their indignation at the federal government cards right heffing and jeffing NOW! I don’t wanna hear a pipsqueak about Ruby Ridge or Waco ever again.

The same people who opposed those are opposing this. Damn culture war got you divided again. We need another Mangione right about now we could really use some of that class consciousness

  • Stay safe out there

  • join the club. Genuinely fucked what's happening

  • Dude I fucking hate it here

  • Solidarity from Minneapolis

  • Ya'll are going to get ethnically/politically cleansed into civil war...jfc

They never would have shot that woman in Minneapolis if she was white and everyone knows it.

  • Did you have any cameras on it?

Nah I'm not that close to it. If it happened in the hospital parking lot though I'm sure it's on film.

  • Portland here too. Worried for my city

  • Another week of ICE posts it is 💀 this my 9/11
