So turns out the rubber that holds the disk with friction to spin it was getting too old and slippery, so I slapped some hot glue in there like a mad man and pressed it down with an old burned CD.
I made sure to accidentally move the laser sensor on its rails by hand, thereby screwing with its calibration.
Shit works again. The redneck fairies were smiling down upon me.
Can now play Guitar Hero Metallica edition again while drinking knock off Monster 🤟

I think you can clean the rubber with rubbing alcohol to restore its friction, but I guess you got it working another way.
Rubbing alcohol works sometimes but Methyl salicylate actually restores oxidized rubber, Everyone knows it as wintergreen flavoring
I may have to try that on my sticky rubber airsoft gun parts
Idk if it would work on silicone parts, but it's worth a shot.
If it were silicon I don’t think it would be sticky.
Oh, it absolutely gets sticky with age and use.
I had the exact opposite problem with a PS3. I bought an old rental game where they used to have a barcode sticker around the hole. The disc retainer is a magnetic cone that drops down. When the PS3 heated up the glue from the sticker, it stuck to the cone and wouldn’t eject. It really sucked reassembling and aligning the gears for the load/eject motor. Enjoy the tour 🤟.
Won't this re- melt when the console warms up?
..aw man
Remove the case to improve airflow. It should not melt enough to cause issues depending on if you use low temp or high temp hot glue.
Either way this is a genius fix for what it is and what you have. Hot glue IS the correct option in your case. And it's the easiest option.
We definitely need updates on how long it lasts though. Hot glue has been tarnished in name for too long.
Don't worry. In recent news the 360 has been properly hacked. Might not even need the disk drive soon, or even now, I forget all the details, a lot has changed in a couple of months.
I am about to pull mine out from cold storage and have a go soon.
Cotton candy machine of adhesive haha
Why you do this
Motor spins but disc don't. It's common on the Xbox 360 jasper revision consoles
The laser is calibrated every time the electric device is turned on
You can buy a replacement drive online.
Nice! I'd consider this a Temporary fix though, I'd make a backup/clone of that disk while it still works.. I fear you may be on borrowed time my friend!
