TL;DR: New comment features are rolling out. You can now turn a great comment into its own post, check stats on your comments, and save drafts automatically. Rollout begins today on both native apps and web and will continue over the next few weeks.
- Share comments as posts: easily turn comments into posts to continue the conversation.
- See comment insights: monitor comment analytics in real-time by tracking views, upvotes, replies, shares, awards, and more.
- Comment drafts: automatically save your comment drafts in case you swipe away or need more time.
Comments carry the conversation. Now they can create their own thread.
The comment section is where you find some of the best stuff on Reddit (like today you, tomorrow me or when Rick Astley got rick rolled), but sometimes your (objectively great) comments can get buried. Now there’s a new way to spotlight and re-engage with past conversations.
How it works:
- When you see a comment, tap the share icon and select a community.
- Write a new title, add body text, and hit post.
\If a community does not allow shared comments as posts, the option to select that community will be greyed out during the selection process.*
Share a comment to a community
See if you’re actually funny – or just early.
Now you can see how well your reply lands with comment insights. Available across all platforms and in all supported languages, this tool gives you real-time data, including:
- Upvotes: The number of upvotes your comment has received.
- Upvote Ratio: The ratio of upvotes to downvotes on your comment.
- Replies: The number of replies to your comment.
- Views: How many times your comment has been viewed, including a geographical breakdown.
- Shares: How many times people have shared your comment.
- Awards: The number of awards your comment has received.
Save it for later.
Accidentally swiped away mid-reply? Need more time to come up with the perfect response? Now you can automatically save your comment as a draft so you won’t lose progress.
Here’s how:
- Click or tap the comment icon below a post or reply below a comment.
- Type your response in the text box that appears.
- Your copy for the comment will automatically save to drafts in case you accidentally swipe off or exit or would like to wait to comment.
- You can then access your draft in your user profile under “drafts.” Drafts currently will not save gifs or images.
Bonus: Leveled-up desktop contribution.
Lastly, on desktop, we’ve added the ability for you to add text alongside images, videos, and link posts.
The updated post flow to add text to image, video, and link posts on desktop
We’re excited for you to try out these new features, and we’ll be in the comments if you have any questions.
P.S. Similar to our March update, we have a separate post in r/modnews with specific information for moderators.
Bring back showing the upvote and downvote count.
You mean the comment score or something else?
Way back when, you could see not just the net score, but how many up-/downvotes a comment or post had.
Ah ok. That's what I thought he meant but wasn't too sure
Comments like this make me feel so old lol. I miss that feature
The numbers they used to show for that were fake though.
No more than the net number now is fake
Fudged, but not "showing 10 votes as 1000". IIts useful to know when a post has 500 up and 495 down, versus just 5 up.
They could also just report is as approximate. Apparently trying to give detailed counts was giving spammers too much insight into how effective their brigading was, but something like "Score 23. (~30+, ~10-)" would still be pretty interesting. If there was some signal for potentially spammy behavior, they could just skip reporting it on those comments.

I don’t understand the trend of removing this. YouTube did it too. I remember the days when we could see how many dislikes on “Baby” by Justin Bieber 🤣
Ye
And reporting users for legitimate reasons, like spamming TikTok videos for upvotes.
You can still see the upvote and downvote count of a comment and post. Unless you're talking about something else? I'm confused...
You can see the net count, back in the day you could see individual tallys
And AFAIK it's not even proper net count after certain number
It sounds like comments are turning into tweets now
Yeah, does anyone really care how many people have looked at individual comments? It’s an over share that just clutters the interface.
Is this available for all comments, or only your own? If it's the former, on top of the inevitable uptick in low-effort content/spam/karma farming, it is an absurdly easy way to foment targeted harassment at specific users. A cross post to an oppositional sub or an already controversial comment being highlighted are lightning rods for hate, so there needs to be some way to avoid that if you want anyone to actually use this in their sub.
Please tell me we can turn this feature on or off in our subs, like crossposting?
You have to block the reddit.com url to disable it.
Good to know. We’ll likely be implementing this in both communities I participate in. They comprise over 100,000 users.
Default should be opt-in and not opt-out when introducing potentially disruptive features.
The default should be to actually implement the things that are announced. Month after month I see announcements of features that don't actually exist. This is just another one.
Do you get notified when someone shares your comment as a new post? Or are people just going to be talking shit about you with no way for you to know it happened? How is that continuing the conversation?
And what happens to the comment “post” if you edit or delete your comment? Do we no longer get control over whether our content exists or not?
They answered this in the mod version of the post, it supposedly will delete in both places.
Thanks for the info. Appreciate it!
That's a very interesting question. I am eager to see what the answer is.
Oh, interesting idea - we don’t do this for any shared content (eg: crossposts). This is something we will take back to the team.
Why are replies being turned into individual comments?? Every time you guys make changes you break something. If this is intentional then please explain how it makes sense? It’s messy and confusing.
Here’s a post on r/bugs about this: https://www.reddit.com/r/bugs/s/EnQjD0wMjq
Hopefully it will keep you tagged in the new post.
There should be an option to opt out on this.
As a user I do not want my comments to be posts, especially when I am not informend that this is shared. If I would have wanted to made a post - I would have written a post, not a comment.
And as a moderator I neither want comments as posts in my community (what an low effort way to post), but I do not want user to be able to share comments my users made. I am moderating a vulnurable community - and I can clearly see this used in bad faith against the users I am trying to protect.
Fix the app. Why does a video auto start and then keeps playing in a little box at the top corner after I've paused it when I'm down in the comments? So annoying.
It really is!! I've found that if you're watching the video full screen and then swipe up to bring up the comments it'll stop the video and won't play in the corner. But sometimes it doesn't stick. Like if you have your phone on auto rotate and if it rotates it brings the video back up 🙄🤦
Yup. Even though I have all autoplay settings disabled, it still does it. I seriously miss the 3rd party app I was using.
The app is complete trash. There are much better alternatives IMO
On mobile. What are the alternatives? I used to use Sync Pro, which I loved, but Reddit banned all third-party APIs.
It's not for everyone but I personally use old.reddit.com on Safari with an added adblock (1blocker). It's definitely older looking but loads 10x faster, less intrusive ads (no video ads!), much easier to browse posts, and you can view nsfw posts without an account. You can set old.reddit.com as your default in settings. You do have to zoom in for smaller links and buttons but it's so much faster once you get used to it.
If you have Android, this looks pretty sweet, https://github.com/cygnusx-1-org/continuum . I'm planning on switching back to Droid soon myself.
Same. I exclusively use old.reddit.com on both desktop and mobile.
It's slightly cumbersome needing to zoom in to select some links, but all of the upsides are completely worth it.
What exactly is a "Share"? (Inquiring minds have wanted an answer to that question for a few years. But haven't gotten one.)
https://i.imgur.com/z6O6saa.png
So when I click share just to get the link and copy it in my notes, it counts as a share?
Yes.
So if I understand correctly, if I am first to respond to a comment on a smaller subreddit, the user I am responding to can place me in a given country from their breakdown, given I am likely to be the only entry?
I know similar can be said about the breakdown on posts but at least there it doesn't basically come with a notification
Will we get comment formatting tools in reddit mobile at some point?
How will these work with vote fuzzing?
I hope that subreddits do not become crowded, or clogged with people trying to make their comments as posts. I just don't really see what the point is behind this update. I'll try to make sense of it, but I don't see what the appeal is.
Yeah it's really weird to me when people do this "pop out thread" thing where they vaguely reference threads from earlier in the day. Thankfully there aren't tonnes of these, it's usually off the top post of the day. But I generally just think to myself, "couldn't this have been a reply? Did this really need to be bumped again?"
This is basically turning into twitter or x
twix
This sounds interesting. Often, comments on AskReddit basically end up being their own thread with people sharing similar stories.
I hope you add a way to see that a comment has been posted as its own thread, so people might go to the post from the comment and share their reply there, too. But you wouldn't want it to detract from the original comment though.
But there's nothing wrong with comment threads being comment threads. I do not understand why we need to now make comments into posts of their own. I can see this feature being heavily misused and abused by people, and subreddits are going to be even more crowded and clogged with useless spam.
Press X to doubt; they took away our ability to see where a post has been cross-posted to. I don't really expect reddit to show us that a comment has been made into its own post thread.
Just to say, on old.reddit.com you can still see every crosspost. There's a tab at the top that says
other discussions (X)(whereXis the number of crossposts). Clicking that tab shows you everywhere that the submission has been crossposted.Another tip (with old reddit) is to simply replace "comments" in the url with "duplicates".
Fix the videos on the app! It stops playing when I full screen it.
[deleted]
Okay I thought i was going crazy. How can they think that was a good idea?
Yeah this is bugged for me too.
YOU HAVE TO VERIFY YOUR AGE NOW BY UPLOADING A SELFIE OR UPLOADING ID ???
Reddit has officially died
It's so stupid
I get it. Now can you hide that annoying red alert please
Until you bring back the swipe-to-collapse comments option on iOS, I really don't care about these "exciting new features" 😒
Forget the new features, they need to fix what they already have. Some of the tools and features of the platform do not work, and when I ask about it in r/modsupport or in r/bugs they never pay attention or promise a fix.
Truly no reason to take it away unless they’re planning some revolutionary features that uses the swipe.
Probably some new product owner or UX intern.
Can hide the view insights? I don't really care for that information at all
have you found a solution to this? I dont want the insights either
The sorting of posts is broken on desktop. I used to have New and it worked, showing only new posts from my communities. Now, when I choose New and keep scrolling, then refresh, the posts do not disappear - they stay as if I hadn't seen them. The Best sorting works like New, but it is not the same. It is all fucked up.
Did you guys just turn off comment stats again?
btw, who the hell asked for this weird-ass AI "answers" bullcrap?
This is possibly the stupidest feature Reddit has added. It doesn't even make sense. What answers is it even talking about? How are these AI topics even remotely related to the post I'm viewing? From what I can tell, they aren't.
I noticed today that in the app I can search my posts by top best controversial etc but not my comments. Am I missing something or could this be fixed?
Are we going to still have a "join the conversation" chat box show up after writing a comment and essentially "joining the conversation"?
How about stop attacking accounts that don't violate tos and having to constantly appeal with the team saying oops sorry we messed up.
Commenting again to second -503- the change to expand for more comments is completely asinine
Neat!
So when can we see upvote & downvote count?
The related posts being intermingled with the comments makes posts and comment chains hard to follow.
The arrow that used to jump down to the next top level comment now just arbitrarily and is especially useless
can you consider automatically remove suspended/deleted accounts from blocklists? I had to prune mine because it was filled with accounts that no longer existed but still put me over the 1000 user limit.
Downvote abuse & manipulation are huge problems. Here are actionable solutions Reddit should implement:
Why Reddit Should Care: Mass downvoting, misuse, and botting create toxic echo chambers, stifle discussion, drive away good users, and ultimately hurt engagement and the platform's long-term health. These fixes target manipulation while promoting healthier communities. Worth testing in pilot subs.
TO MODS: If there is a better place to leave this comment that I am unaware of then please let me know & I will take down and send to the proper channel.
How about you bring back comment sorting for logged out users? Also I can't scroll past the first 30 posts of a subreddit
What happened to the comment tracking page? I went looking for a comment I made that had 2.4K upvotes so I could find the post again. But now when I sort my comments by "top," it shows that my top comment of all time is a different, more recent one that only has 1.6K upvotes. None of my "top" comments are more than 6 months old but I have had this account for six years.
My previous 2.4K upvote comment is still up. The post wasn't deleted. Why isn't it listed in the "top comments" anymore?
why can't i see comment insights anymore
i hate the fact that no matter what I do this reddit is not approving my post
its been 21 hours I have posted a horror story that happened with me but this redddiittttt its not approving it idk what isnthe issue probably gonna stop using it
its getting irriting
Is reddit rigged?
Can I actually comment here with low karma?
Reddit is controlled by the same corporations that control your right to free speech. Stop subscribing to fascism, stop giving them money. Start standing up against corporations.
The Reddit Answers ai feature has me wanting to delete all of my Reddit accounts. I hate it.
Can we get condensed or less frequent ads instead? App is nearly unusable as is.
What’s up with the new interface that doesn’t allow filtering for News, Latest, etc?
Why?????? 🤷♂️
Yeah the new commenting system sucks. Takes more clicks/touches to navigate amd the information is not logically displayed. This change is a loser.
what's with the shitty new mobile update? it literally just removes a ton of functionality
What the heck is going on with comment notifications? I am getting notified of some not others, and it seems like there are links to part of a particular comment thread, but it is confusing to try to use.
I don't know where I can ask about this, but how to I stop random subs from being suggested to me?
I keep getting random notifications about "Because you visited X, try out Y."
If I have to go through a list and turn off notifications for every random sub I don't visit, I will.
I cant see my comment insights anymore
I can't see stats for 30 days or 12 month on my subreddit
My streak has been reseted and I have been interacting everyday. I was at 403 and now it's 2 days. Could you restore it?
[deleted]
Not sure who you think you're fooling with your new number system but a sub with an average "159 users online" going to "650,000 visitors and 5000 contributions per week" looks very suspicious. Counting bot sweepers and refreshes as "visitors" is blatantly lying and if you think that is going to fool investors for long, you are going to do irreperable long term damage.
Can we add a way to filter out certain words from our feed? I follow lots of dog communities so the algorithm keeps feeding me videos of dogs about to be euthanized if they don’t get adopted. I mute them every single time but there’s just too many
Literally posting because i need to increase my Karma to post on a page for advice about doorhandles. This is ridiculous.
Please stop adding mobile games and AI shit.
This stuff fucks me off SO MUCH
I got banned from r/askreddit for saying "Believing everyone is equal, especially men and women, is a silly naive childish view of the world."
More cool things that aren't rolled out to my account. I'm still hoping for curation.
Is there a way to turn drafts off?
Can you bring back messaging please god
I really wish you’d just work on some quality of life improvements for the app. Like, ffs, let me pin the left navigation bar that contains all my reddits.
Can you make to where blocked people's comments and usernames are hidden again, why did you even remove that feature?
Why are the pictures on this announcement squished? I'm using chrome on mobile and the pictures are skinny!
You know the staff at Reddit are not doing their jobs when the pictures on the official announcements are not formatted correctly!
Can we have an option to turn off the "related posts" stuff after the end of comments? The stuff is useless and wasteful
Your algorithm is miserable. It borders on assault.
I just joined , got this account from fam member, cool an exiting app!!
Can we please have a way to delete notifications?
Please allow me to toggle the notifications bell to be a drop down instead of a new page.
I routinely lose long answers because I get distracted by the notifications when I'm typing and because clicking the bell doesn't bring up the "save this draft" and just takes me to the notifications page I routinely lose my work.
I enjoy helping people with detailed answers on reddit and the changes to the notification bell just harm that experience.
Please give me an option to turn off reply notifications completely like the other notifications and not just "Inbox" or "All on".
I want ZERO notifications, I don't want to see what people have to say to my comments. I want to post and ghost. I have a bad habit of replying to dumb comments and I'd rather not have to deal with it without just outright quitting Reddit altogether.
How about rolling out an update where you stop spamming my home page with random "related" subreddits I might enjoy and create a discover feed so I don't have to get bombarded with subreddits I don't care about followed by the same 3 ads on rotation.
Is there a reason why you’re forcing these Christian ads on us? I am very close to deleting this app. We should be able to block this propaganda. Reddit is a sellout
How do I report a subreddit mod for violating the code of conduct if I am not a mod
Anyone else’s Reddit running really slow? Tried on two different devices
figure out that when someone right clicks on a picture and says open in another tab, they DON'T WANT THE ENTIRE REDDIT TO RELOAD, like this is simple
I can't see the comments when the post has a picture in it. it's frustrating.
Hello one question, how can i change my username?
this is ripe for abuse.
I’m trying to learn how to censor stuff pemis
Whenever I try to post or answer someone's post to boost my karma, it gets removed because I don't have karma built up. Is there an easy pool of reddits where we can build karma?
Can we please be able to save images from comments as well? 3rd party applications used to have this years ago but the Reddit app still doesn’t
Add dream stat count for r/luciddreaming members
Why can’t you delete notifications in your notifications tray ? Like all of them not just “updates” I guess. I like having a clean slate and having replies and stuff like that is annoying. I don’t need to see someone laughing/agreeing at a funny comment I made for eternity
It’s just such a simple feature
u/redditproductteam u/reddit_irl Noticed a bug with the new feature of crossposting comments as their own posts, specifically when saving them as a draft. After saving as a draft and reopening it the shared comment is no longer an embed (?) and is instead just a linked post.
See here for screenshots. First is how it looks when reopening the draft, middle is the original comment in the original thread, third is how it looks after clicking the cross post button on the bottom of the original comment
Thank
reddit
20th Happy Birthday reddit
Private subs can't be reported by people outside the sub. Do you see the issue? A Youtuber took her life because of a snark sub and they then quickly privated before it could be mass reported.
Any reason why the communities that no longer exist and that I followed now appear (out of nowhere) and on the top of all the communities?? And I can't get rid of them since they no longer exist???
What happened to the scroll button in the comments? It used to jump you to the next comment thread but now it just jumps you down randomly wherever, regardless of whether it's at the beginning of a new thread or not. I miss being able to navigate separate comment threads easily.
Why are none of the features ever announced in this sub actual features on the site? I'm getting tired of these monthly updates that are all vaporware.
Please fix the replies layout on the web UI. It used to be down the centre of the screen, like regular posts, but now they extend across the entire screen, and I have a bigass monitor.
Comment to reddit:bro apparently I threatened someone when its a chat WHO THE HELL CARES WHEN ITS ABOUT FLAGS BRUH ITS JUST WORDS I AM SOON ERASING R/ANTI-GERMANY AND LEAVING REDDIT FOREVER IF REDDIT STAYS AN OFFICIAL APP ON THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE
Hi, just got this on my reddit app today. How do I opt out of the insights? I can't find the option.
I cannot stress enough how much I DON'T want to see the views on my post. It's literally the feature that drove me off other social media sites. 🙃
Get rid of the suggested threads at the bottom of all threads in the app now. It’s stupid
Would like to report a bug on iPadOS whenever your in your home area and switch to another app, when you switch back to Reddit app you always lose your place and end up scrolled to the top. Annoying if you’ve been scrolling down for any length of time. Thx.
Nice work shadowbanning JD Vance memes being used as avatars by people protesting the current regime. Have y'all seriously not heard about the Streisand effect?
Hello
can you save my goldfish from drowning
Idk if this is the right place to post but how do you gain karma?
Replying to one of my comments is Blocked User: https://ibb.co/jkCzb4Vm Did reddit block them from reddit, or did they block me from seeing their reply?
Is this messing up anyone’s comment sections? I made a post in a wedding dress subreddit, and it shows that like 20 people have replied but I can only see 3 comments 😕
[deleted]
How can I get rid of it? I don't want to see views, I already have bad social anxiety. This was a nice place
Landscape mode when?
So apparently saying Id have fought a guy is a threat is of violence yet all the comments I see that say worse? And gave me a warning for it. Fuck off Reddit and their mods. Like seriously. Be equal or shut the fuck up
You guys all suck and this is a liberal-bias platform, go ahead, ban me yet again because of my political beliefs, site sucks anyways.
I want the old loading animation bro pls what is this orange thing😭
Judge Judy tapping watch gif let me curate my profile plz
I posted at r/ModSupport (Link), r/bugs (Link) and r/help (Link) already, but no useful response yet and this fricking issue happend again. Is there somewhere a place to submit issues and get a feedback soon?
Why am I being suggested posts on Home, when I turned off that option in my settings?
Why can’t we disable recommendations anymore?
Christ! Why? I am hating this update. Don’t show me suggestions, or it’s like this one’s - my feed. (Ads) but MY feed. If I wanted to follow other subs I would. Hope you fix this
