Daily discussion on Manchester United.

BE CIVIL

We want r/reddevils to be a place where anyone and everyone is welcome to discuss and enjoy the best club on earth without fear of abuse or ridicule.

  • The report button is your friend, we are way more likely to find and remove and/or ban rule breaking comments if you report them.
  • The downvote button is not a "I disagree or don't like your statement button", better discussion is generally had by using the upvote button more liberally and avoiding the downvote one whenever possible.

  • It's interesting that Nicky Butt said in a recent interview [link below] that with the exception of Giggs and possibly Scholes, he doesn't think that the remainder of the class of '92 would've have made it at United, or possibly in football at all, in these modern times.

  • A very happy new year to everyone. Let's hope 2026 brings us some much needed wins.

  • [deleted]

active in r/coys . I wonder which team you support hmm...

  • We desperately need to get rid of Dalot from the starting lineup and ensure Ugarte gets nowhere near the pitch.

For me you buy garner and a player like we did last January for Dorgu for lwb, moving Dorgu to rwb and this 343 may finally work. With Dalot in the team you’re basically playing a shit cb who messes up every attacking position he gets in

I know Dorgu had that great game against Newcastle, but overall Dalot has been better than him this season I think. Ironically, Dalot's best games have come on the left and Dorgu's on the right ...

I think his long throws are another thing that Amorim values, and why if it's a close call between two players, Dalot gets the nod.

Still think Dalot is like the perfect squad player, he just should not be the starter, but I would have no problem if he's the 2nd on both flanks either.

He doesn’t have the skill set for a wing back and it massively holds back the formation from working. His best position is likely what Mazraoui does at right centre back. If we want a system manager it works if all our players suit the system, we would probably be better off with worse players that suit the system than the awkward fit we have now

I kind of think that if Dalot isn't overplayed due to necessity his form might improve and he could get back to the levels he was at a few years ago when he was player of the year

  • I remember reading a report about why Liverpool chose Slot over Amorim. It was apparently due to the cost involved in signing players to make his system effective in the EPL. £500m was the amount quoted(ironically they spent close to that for Slot in one summer lol and it hasn't gone swimmingly).

So far,INEOS have more or less spent 50% of that figure on Dorgu,Lammens,Cunha,Mbeumo & Sesko. The remaining £250m will need to be forked out next summer and then perhaps,we will hopefully see his system at its full potential next season.

We aren’t far away imo. We just need an effective left wing back and a decent midfielder. However the manager humans worries me with dumb mistakes like moving Dorgu to the left and taking off zirkzee etc and putting on obi he seems to have preference for players he gets on well with like Dalot over ability

Yea I remember reading that, Amorim was supposedly the best at keeping players fit in the top 7 leagues.

I would argue our squad was so bad when we hired Amorim that no matter who we brought in we would've needed to overhaul both the attack and midfield and it would cost roughly the 500 million that was quoted anyways

Yes. That is why I want to see how we fare once most of the pieces are in place.

  • If Amorim left, how would you feel if we appointed Maresca?

Curious what peoples views would be, sure there would be some interesting takes / discussion

Another ex City guy is off putting.

His tactical changes in games/subs aren't much better tbh.

Tbf the manager market isn't the best anyway. So he'd not be a terrible choice

Why go through all that trouble to get a similar quality manager

We're level on points but their squad is better than ours on paper, I don't see how he'd do any better with us.

    Very much a sidegrade

  • So according to some all our issues are due to Amorim and not because of missing players either through injury/Afcon/haven't filled key positions yet but those same people now want Maresca, who if he leaves a big reason would be down to the recruitment issues - exactly what Amorim is facing...

I guarantee those same people will want him out before we even get to the summer window.

Regrdless of what fans think, our results weren’t flawless when all players were available either. Westham, spurs, forest and brentford.

So many people seem to believe that just because we were the best team well over a decade ago that means that anything but winning the league is a massive failure and just ignore how long we have been poorly run and what its going to take to make United an actual top club again

  • Recent pattern of united has been a bit too routine. United starts well, scores, then makes a few chances but doesn’t get the second. The opponent will dominate the rest of the match.

Can you tell me which of the games the opponent dominated us? Because apart from City and Newcastle 2nd half, I don't think we have been dominated in any half.

Liverpool, chelsea after our red card, can add wolves at home too

But yeah i meant more toothless and give up kind of style of play.

I agree with your general sentiment though, and I believe that a lot has to do with how our midfield is setup, both as a personnel and tactics. Hope to see us being more aggressive over the next one year.

Brentford too. Though it's a question of looking toothless/getting dominated.

  • How are you guys feeling about Leeds away? It will be very tough based on what I've seen from them in the last few matches.

Our first XI without De Ligt, Maguire, Bruno, Mount, Amad and Mbeumo is pretty poor, those are 4 of our best 5 players I'd argue. Take them out and there's zero creativity in midfield and a massive over reliance on Cunha to create something by himself. Our defence also looks leaky af with the inexperienced Heaven very hit and miss and Yoro in a horrible slump right now.

I can see us getting played off the park and losing something like 2-0.

The available starting team is just barely better than teams like Leeds on paper while the bench is worse, I think it is a much harder game than most people here dare to accept, but I also believe in a win.

Leeds has been very good the last month or so.

It is going to be really hard because we have so little depth and almost of our players who create chances are either injured or at AFCON, plus 2 important defenders are still out (I believe).

Cunha needs to create something instead of trying to play for free kicks and Sesko needs to finally put some chances away since those should be the main 2 guys with such a depleted squad

I have a figured that when I expect a loss, we always win. So, I think we are going to get battered against Leeds.

At this point, we have the ability to play poorly against anyone. Best to keep expectations very low for that match.

  • To think some absolute idiots(me) thought Utd were capable of replacing Bruno

This is an indictment on the team and the management. If we have become Bruno FC, then something seriously is wrong and a new direction is needed.

I dont think Utd and the management are capable of doing that , Utd were right on trying to be less reliant on Bruno & Rashford digging us out of matches because that wasnt enough anymore . They have gone about it awfully so far

We are constantly underestimating him because he always plays. Cant even imagine where we would be without the guy.

I was one of those people

    I’m not suprised

tbf i did think you had some valid criticisms of bruno

its just that we clearly cannot create anything without him and the club would have wasted that 100m on baleba or something

United should be, our board isn't

  • Anyone seen updates on Mbeumo? Was subbed off at half time yesterday

I watched the game, I think the coach just wanted to save his key players from injuries.

    Cheers, Geoff

  • It should be CL or bust. The standard of the league outside the top 3 is diabolical. Liverpool are 4th and they've been dogshit. Anyone with their sights set lower have to look at how consistently shit the league is between 5th -15th, and how shit those below are, and ask is it really ok for us to be in amongst all that?

We're playing 1 game a week. We spent 200m in the summer. Anything other than CL qualification is unacceptable.

ok in liverpool's defense, they are getting back in form. i think we are more competing for that last ucl spot with chelsea sunderland and others

I'd love to get 4th but I think the current level of this squad in light of the personnel and the tactics is 6th - 8th. We are also very inconsistent.

Liverpool are 4th and they've been dogshit.

Not asking you to reduce your expectations but take a look at their first 11 and ours. Hell, take a look at their current bench and our current 11. We are gonna be fighting for 5th with Chelsea most probably and they also have a better squad than us.

I think we should be aiming for a 5-6th finish

The thing is if we lose or draw few games we are literally 10-15th again. That's how close the league is this year. It's very important not to lose against Leeds and start spiraling again.

Absolutely agreed. Though knowing the squad and the manager, I fear it's gonna be another draw/loss against Leeds and a win/draw against one of City/Arsenal.

We are gonna be fighting for 5th with Chelsea most probably and they also have a better squad than us.

We are fighting for 5th to 6th because Amorim is a terrrible manager , he has bottled multiple chances to make top 4

You could form the same case for any manager in the league who's not Pep, Arteta Or Emery.

You could form the same case for any manager in the league who's not Pep, Arteta Or Emery.

    Do they manage Utd?

Are only United managers allowed to be criticised?

It's like you think the resources available and expectations the club has are the same as all the rest...

    We aren't getting CL bud

  • I'm sure about 25% of people that want Amorin out would go the other way if we win, very winnable, games.

10 men Everton. Tie the worst team in Pl history at home. And just lose stupid points against lower half teams.

Those games are what are killing Amorin right now. He can do better and he knows it.

Amorim's problem is not only losing winnable games. He's slow to change and doesn't want to risk when the game screams for bold moves. His game management and defense organization are really off putting too

Yeah we'd be 3rd. Not getting CL this season would be a joke when you look at how poor the league is outside of the current top 3

  • Happy New Years everyone. I'm back from a ban. I promise to be as bad in 2026 :D

Apparently you don't have to be bad to get a ban on this sub, and you seem lucky if you got any sort of reason from the Mods to explain.

I'm gonna be generous and think whoever banned me didn't read the room. I mod a reddit and a discord myself. Sometimes you give reports just a cursory glance due to the sheer number and it's not a job. At least the moderation here is not as bad as in r/soccer

Yup, I largely have the same feelings. The sub is very well moderated in general and it's probably best to have a few false positives rather than a lot of false negatives. I get the sense that often context of discussions can be missed, but there's not going to be time for looking into things in detail.

what got you banned? And wish you well!

    apparently I'm not civil lol

  • maresca gets sacked before Amorim??? Fuck INEOS man

For beefing with one of the owners (Or I guess technically it is the owner beefing with him)

  • Where is the transfer thread

    We are not buying anyone

    Not with that mentality

  • I seem to have completely missed whatever is going at Chelsea. I thought Enzo was doing a fantastic job and they were title challengers 3 weeks back?

Some people want Maresca here. Same Maresca who's being accused of degrading Palmer and overplaying his players and is on the same points as us lol.

I'm not one of them. I prefer our manager and I think with some patience good times will come. Maybe I'm in the minority on that that thought process.

But I also think that Maresca isn't a bad manager, his teams have historically had a bad mid-season, same with Leicester. Not sure if it is squad or tactics or whatever else. I also think that he has done a decent job at Chelsea, and they should atleast give him till end of season considering they had a lot of injuries to important players. But what do I know!

I totally agree with you on the manager though. If Amorim isn't the manager to bring us back to the top I really believe whoever takes over after him will be and part of it will be from how Amorim has helped make some long overdue changes and been the one to oversee the necessary rebuild

No "bad" manager wins the CWC beating the UCL winners as well as wins the Conference League. All managers who manage to reach the top leagues are amazing in their own ways and have some flaws too. It's just a question of how well they translate their skills to success.

I'm just waiting for the season end to see how Amorim does and then I'll form my opinion on him. People who want him out are right in their own regard because of some absolutely disappointing results but people who are patient with him are also right because well he's shown the right signs. Also he's young which gives him the benefit of doubt that he's adaptable and puts down some of his bad habits.

There were a ton of people who wanted Frank and if im remembering correctly Potter as well

And Iraola and Silva and Glasner.

No manager is perfect. It's just a matter of who can work well with a squad and a combination of how well he's backed and given the freedom to choose. Maresca is a great manager but being fucked up by the higher ups.

Glasner and Iraola, too. It is always the next best new thing.

Glasner is by far the funniest one since so many people bitch about the formation and how we shouldn't ever go with 3 at the back but then they want to bring in a manager who uses the same type of shape as Amorim.

He is doing good but there are tensions with the board and owners behind the scenes

Yeah, sacking manager is classic Chelsea but their squad is in constant flux. Not his problem that their board wants to run a wonderkid sweatshop.

  • I said in here at the time that £40m for Garnacho was a good deal, and he’s ended up (with others) being so disappointing for Chelsea the manager is about to leave.

It is a good deal for a 20 year old prospect with almost 150 games played and 25 goals scored. This season is not even bad by his own standards, he still scores or assists once in every 3 games. What's really disappointing about Garna is that he stopped growing above himself, is still very selfish and puts an end to good attacks

Manager leaving Chelsea has nothing to do with the results

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR REDS! MAY UNITED GET Ws

  • Happy new year! 2026 will be a movie!

  • Happy new year lads! Hope we win some games this years.

  • Happy New Year! And also, welcome back Transfer Discussion thread!

  • Happy New Year to you and your families, everybody!!

  • Happy New Years everyone!!!!

  • Happy new year everyone. Hope you all have a great year and the various teams associated with our dear Manchester United do too 🙏🏾

  • Maresca getting fired is just incompetence on Chelsea's side not something we should aspire to. I prefer the measured approach of INEOS. I don't think it's a guarantee that Amorim succeeds here but as long as they keep improving the squad we'll get there, with or without Amorim. I think the team has improved this season, albeit from a low bar that Amorim himself set, so it's fine if he sees the season out. I think with a better midfield and fullbacks we'll perform a lot better next season.

Season's fickle this year. We lose against Leeds and it turns into a full shitstorm then we somehow win against one of Arsenal or City and draw the other and we have never been more back. Honestly just waiting for how it pans out at the end and hope for some good signings along the way.

Get out of here with your logical, measured and rational approach.

Seriously, we beef every week on here about AmorIN or AmorOUT depending on the result, and your view is exactly mine. I feel like what the AmorOUT crowd don’t get is that we are not wedded to Amorim at all. We don’t personally love or back the guy. All we want is stability, patience and a framework to progress under.

I don’t care about the guy but I want to see the club do well.

INEOS is clueless at running football clubs

  • [deleted]

    This isnt Vivells job though.

    [deleted]

Or a random journalist is chatting shit for clicks.

  • Man it’s unfortunate Dorgu showed more promise on the right as well. Amad/Mbeumo can’t be displaced there.

For many years we had the opposite issue of a stronger left side with Rashford and Martial, and Shaw behind them

He would be perfect for an impact squad player covering multiple positions. I still think he needs to improve a lot but he is way more comfortable on the right side.

It was one half of one game. He has played there for us last season but wasn't amazing.
He's also been playing well off the left recently. Set up Cunha and also found Cunha who fluffed his header both v villa and was finding better balls and play v wolves.
He's just playing well at the min. Which side doesn't matter.
The issue with wolves was mainly mason mount not playing and Zirkzee in his place.
Dorgu is just on it at the min 👍

  • The wolves match radicalized me, sack the manager every 6 months until they stop doing stupid things, if they start doing stupid things give them until the next transfer market to get their shit together or fire them. Big clubs shouldn't be forced to give manager years before they stop doing stupid things

I agree with you but you need a solid foundation to do that.

  • For the first time in many years it’s a good thing United is giving time to a manager

    Amorim is figuring it out,

Figuring out how to finish 15th again?

Only if the season starts with ETH in charge

  • Happy new year lads. Lets hope for a positive year this one, ffs.

  • This sub and internet in general is full of people wanting the team to fail so they can say I told you so. This takes away so much from the experience of watching the matches. Think I should quit

We will be 6th at the halfway point in the season. Every single person on this sub would have taken 6th at the start of the season.
Now some people think we should be 3rd or better and it's a disgrace we aren't.

Notice how quiet people become about a certain opinion when it turns out wrong. Wanted to buy Baleba now they are gone. Wanted Iraola who's struggling. Wanted Glasner who's starting to struggle albeit it's because he's fucked due to recruitment. If we got any one of these and they performed like they are right now, it would be INEOS out.

End of the day, people are reactionary and we are not at all qualified to take any decisions. For all their flaws, there's a reason the higher ups have reached the position they are in. Not saying to blindly trust them but to think we know better is a bit foolish.

So much this. Everyone seems to want to be a pundit/influencer first, and fan a distant second. Regardless of whether Amorim works out, I'm glad that INEOS so far seem to have their plan and doesn't kneejerk based on fan sentiment.

Not just this sub. It’s crazy how many people on Reddit just want things to fail

Pretty much every niche subreddit nowadays is people just wanting to shit all over the thing they’re apparently a fan of.

Stranger Things discourse has been fucking wild the last week or so…

"Look at me! I hate pop culture and think it is overrated. I also hate all rich people who have a higher net worth than me and am not racist as long as the people aren't of any ethnicity I don't like! If I pass negative remarks all the time it's because I'm a mature realist unlike you who's an immature child!"

It’s just the sort of person Reddit typically attracts. Has always skewed more towards the loser/weirdo/alt types (myself included), pessimists and miserablists.

Yeah I really love the idea of a forum dedicated to United so I can discuss the club I love with other fans but it legit doesn't feel like a lot of the people here even like the club or want them to do well

Can we add in some of our pundits to that mix too?

From the second the game starts vs Wolves, there was this vibe from Neville that he was desperate for us to drop points so he could say he was right about the formation change. Scholes is forever undermining the team too. It’s just a constant stream of negativity trying to ragebait people.

I try my best to ignore anything the pundits say so I couldn't agree more. I can't believe how much I dislike some of our most legendary players due to the absolute bullshit they say all the time about the club they claim to love.

    Quit please

    They take after our manager.

Clout generation wcyd. It doesn't help these platforms give vocal minority (who thirsty for attention) weapon to drive negative engagement, and these things spread faster than wildfire.

  • I think something most people miss with INEOS idea with Amorim is that they don’t care about results short term

They got the guy who turned Sporting around

    That’s what they believe in

Quite frankly, the people here who complain about standards all of the time are a bit sad - winning FA cup, Europa, carabao cup, and conference league are pretty meaningless

That’s like being an NBA team and winning the in season tournament and parading it around like an achievement lol

It’s about the premier league title and champions league, that’s it, full stop.

So these same standards people have been the reason we have continuously forced managers to play pragmatic counter attacking football and get 2nd-8th over and over. Because these baby trophies somehow placate you guys.

Rather than build towards dominant football that the best teams in the world play

Frankly I could give a damn about getting 2nd or getting 17th…

I doubt Amorim is the guy, but the point is that that’s besides the point.

The point is to give a guy time to implement his strategy exactly as he sees it, not short term bandaid tactics to win a measly FA Cup lol

That’s why he’s getting this full year and probably next year too

They’re gonna let him see it through

He can be haughty all you want but you're kidding yourself if you don't think Amorim will be kicked out if we don't get Europe this season. 250m spent in summer and no Europe is a catastrophic failure no matter what nonsense you spew

They got the guy who turned Sporting around

Utd isnt Sporting and the PL is much tougher.

I think something most people miss with INEOS idea with Amorim is that they don’t care about results short term

Ofc they do if we dont make european football hes gone.

Quite frankly, the people here who complain about standards all of the time are a bit sad - winning FA cup, Europa, carabao cup, and conference league are pretty meaningless

If its so so meaningless it shouldnt be so hard for Amorim to win one , and our standards being lowered is factual Amorim gets fired at the majority of other clubs.

Rather than build towards dominant football that the best teams in the world play

What has Amorim shown as a Utd manager that hes anything close to getting Utd there?

The point is to give a guy time to implement his strategy exactly as he sees it, not short term bandaid tactics to win a measly FA Cup lol

Yeah hows that going for us ?

What comments like this are missing is:

    1. Begin by claiming that “most people” think this or that, and assume that only you and a few others can see things clearly, instead of respecting that other people have their own perspectives and different standards.
    2. Use long-term goals as an excuse. While it is true that one or two bad results should not be seen as a disaster, a year of bad results is. Bad results mean less money to spend, good players will not trust or choose the club, and this hinders the long-term goal.

Cunha and mbuemo came to a united that finished 15th, prestige still carries a lot of weight for some people.

We're they not Utd fans as kids, tho?

Also (and sorry for double response) the reality is that for years we've had a bloated squad of overpaid fading stars and overpaid mediocrity who came for the paycheck. I'm not sure where I stand with amorim, but one thing I do for sure think is that he's taken on a monster of a job. He's shifted out a lot of dross, I think his signings have been for the most part great  and we're not actually in a terrible position with a patchwork squad. I think a couple more signings transform this team, I think there's obviously levels to come from cunha, mbuemo and sesko, and we're seeing academy youth integrated. There's a lot to be unhappy about but there's also a lot to be excited about, no matter who is the manager going forward.

I, like yourself, am 'Glass ½ full' on our situation. Yes, we had a shit day with Wolves at OT, and so, of course, the daggers are out for RA again. But I'm looking ahead to when Bruno and Mount are fit and praying the Afcon lads come back all in one piece. I think I've had to come to terms with the fact that we are churning out mid table performances bc we're a mid table team, rn. I still believe this is a blip, and things will get better. Just dk when.

This is what I'm saying - the fanbase is huge, the club is rich and there's a tonne of prestige in wearing the jersey. It'll take a long time for that to fade,

Players decide the tactics and systems take 6 weeks to implement. Everyone who tells you otherwise is a gaslighter, and a con artist.

What are your qualifications to make that claim?

You don’t need qualifications to make that claim, but I am a yellow belt in karate.

You don’t need qualifications to make that claim

If you have coached a team for 6 weeks , u would know.

Or if u have tactical insight, u can explain rather than just saying fake words without any weight.

I suppose Pep should have been sacked in his first season in England using that approach

'Pep should be sacked.' Now, let's just leave it at that, shall we?

What approach? He did well to get top four with a title winning team and held 4-0 losses to Koeman’s Everton. Didn’t take him long to realise it wasn’t working and got a bunch of enormous athletes like Kyle Walker to make his method viable, and has adapted every season since to the players at his disposal. He proves my rule, he doesn’t negate it. Tell him to try play the same way he did at Barca today with Tosin and Kolarov CB and see if he wins anything. Better yet, look last season at the 12 losses in a row when the athletic level dropped. Whenever he’s not had the players, it hasn’t worked. When he’s had the players, it’s worked, thus proving me right.

Took him much longer than 6 weeks.

I don’t think it did at all.

You admitted yourself his system wasnt working in his first season and he needed to replace a load of players. But keep telling yourself what you like.

" You can't teach stupid players Total Football " Johan Cruyff

  • Happy new year lads and lasses, hoping you have a great celebration. Let's hope 2026 is a good year for our beloved club. Cheers.

  • Happy new year!

    Amorim out

  • [deleted]

My problem with takes like these is that it’s so often proven to be false, and in the instances where it does work out that a new manager doesn’t improve teams much, they either replaced them with a prick of they got a guy who at least brings stability and better vibes.

Fair enough, but that doesn’t really address the issue with the players on our team. Do you honestly think this group is better than the table says?

I’m not really interested in the table as we can’t control that. I’m only interested in whether we’re seeing the players being utilised to perform at their best. Right now, I don’t think they are. I think we’re worse than the current sum of our parts.

Way to insult the greatest manager in our history.

  • This sub is in glorious denial about Amorim. European football was the aim, as stated by Berrada before a ball had been kicked. He could keep us in this current position (6th) and he’s still getting another season after this one.

So fans should just accept owners setting whats acceptable?

Not worked out so well since 2005.

So fans should just accept owners setting whats acceptable?

No but the people going on about expectations and standards are out of touch with reality. They forget that since Covid United has had stagnant revenue growth, burgeoning debt, and hemorrhaging cash on transfer fees and overpaid and aging players.

It's complete fantasy to think that a new leadership coming into these circumstances can make the club top 4 competitive after just 2 years. The change being affected from the ground up is far more crucial to raising the standards long term, than week to week performances - renovating Carrington, building a new stadium, fixing club culture and locker room toxicity, investing in youth and academy growth, and finally piece by piece building up a top title competitive squad.

Are fans right to be booing the performance we saw against Wolves? Absolutely. But that is just the reality of where we are in recovery from the Glazers reign.

Eh theirs is the only opinion that matters?

    How so?

The owners and the board set the clubs targets? If they say 6th is ok, why would they care if fans are shouting top 3 minimum?

Because they would care if fans stopped buying tickets, merchandise and anything to do with any sponsors of the club?

Is it going to happen, no, but thats only because the majority of fans aren't that bothered.

They would care about those things yes. None of those would happen with us in 6th. Also the targets will inevitably shift. This season 6th could be acceptable due to the phase we are in. Next season top 4 could be their standard and then winning the league. I think they would have a better understanding of where we truly are as an organization.

We were bad at scoring last year. This season we score goals but now we are conceding goals. Next season if they get a new midfielder and maybe a more physical defender, then theyll likely expect those deficiencies to go away. Then the target should be justifiably higher.

They would care about those things yes.

Then we agree our opinions count, if we force them to listen.

None of those would happen with us in 6th.

I agree. Didn't happen for 16th and I doubt us even being relegated would.

This season 6th could be acceptable due to the phase we are in. Next season top 4 could be their standard and then winning the league. I think they would have a better understanding of where we truly are as an organization.

This is the danger though. As 6th to 4th.. etc doesn't really mean anything in relation to us winning a league title down the line. What should matter is if the owners and the board they put in place are doing everything they can to make this club as successful as they can. If they don't do that, fans should do their part in my opinion.

Next season if they get a new midfielder and maybe a more physical defender, then theyll likely expect those deficiencies to go away.

This is out only saving grace. Same work on the midfield and defence as the attack and we wre probably right up there. Issue is we should already be in a better position midfield wise as 3 outfield players in a summer window isn't acceptable as a response to a 16th place finish, in addition to a lowering of the wage bill.

Then the target should be justifiably higher.

And one bad season and it drops, never ending cycle where the fans are happy with what they are given instead of the bar that exists for clubs of our previous success, scale and revenue. My view anyway. Owners don't set the standards, they are supposed to uphold them.

  • Curious about the temperature in the room here: If you could take Xabi Alonso as head coach right now (or at the end of the season if things don't improve), would you?

    Emery is the new messiah

If people think Amorim plays too defensive they’d kill themsleves watching Emory suffer-ball

Whole footballing world needs to wake up to these overhyped wonder kids trying to cut corners in development. Clubs buy younger and younger players thinking it’s all upside the sooner you get them, and the same with managers. Let kids develop into top players before buying them. Let managers develop and fail, learn and grow before hiring them at the top level. If they got their pro license 3 years ago, they ain’t ready. You’ve gotta LOSE a lot of football matches before you’re ready for Utd, Madrid etc.

And even then you can fail. There’s no guarantee at the end of the day.

Countless examples of very experienced managers failing at big clubs. Just at United we’ve had many.

No. Alonso would be just the new Amorim.

Feel we need more experience than that. Also (from a far outsider perspective) seems like he isn't handling the pressure at Madrid, whilst its a different pressure here and not one truly built on winning, it will be worse for him.

We have tried just about everything in a manager:

PL proven, club legends, UCL winners, young, old, up and coming, modern play style, tried and tested approach, any two combinations of what was mentioned

At this point, I’m just tired

We have tried just about everything in a manager:

Its not an engineering project mate, that's broken into a few regimented part lists.

Any and all could work, its simply a matter of the right fit. One young manager may be awful, another great etc etc. One PL proven manager may get bad luck, shafted by owners or poor transfers and fail, another may get everything they needed and do great, another half of what they need and punch above their weight.

You wouldn't go 'oh we have tried a PL proven midfielder and he failed, so this other midfielder that looks a great fit isn't worth it.

Ultimately though, this jobs a massive beast and we are probably best cycling in managers who have experienced high pressure or chaotic environments, who can work with an unbalanced squad, as the pressure wont change and it seems owners are unwilling to do recruitment work at a rate the elite clubs would.

Yes me too, we need new owners.

100%, but sadly don't think he would come here.

  • Chelsea will sack Maresca before Amorim is sacked 💀💀💀

Not a results-based decision apparently though he’s had 30 players bough for him on more than half a billion dollars so there is that

Equal on points and chelseas squad is much better so that makes sense

My combined 11 to test your theory: Sanchez, James, Chalobah, Maguire, Shaw, Casemiro and Enzo, Palmer, Bruno, LW Mbeumo??? Pedro up top?

It’s tight though, I wouldn’t say much better.

Squad is more than just starting eleven, our bench is one of the weakest in the league.

And cucurella over shaw as a lb. Caicedo ocer casemiro as well.

    Casemiro over Caicedo is hilarious.

Caicedo over Case. Cucurella over Shaw. Maybe Lammens over Sanchez but he’s actually been good this year.

Cunha or Mbeumo over their left sided attack.

Sanchez, Cucurella, Chalobah, MDL, James, Caicedo, Enzo, Bruno, Palmer, Mbeumo, Pedro.

8 for them, 3 for us.

    Costlier too, no?

Probably. Although ours hasnt exactly been cheap.

    Their squad is better?

Pedro, Badiashille, Chalobah, Sanchez and gusto start for them. They're shit. And Acheampong started for them last game.

Their CBs are a bit shit but the rest of their team is alright, I’d gladly take their midfield over ours

I’d argue and say Pedro, Sanchez, and Chalobah aren’t nearly as bad as the rest.

There were many on this sub in the summer time calling for Chalobah to come to United.

Pedro is a starter for Portugal and has had decent games for them. He’s be a great addition as depth.

Sanchez, while being a big goof at times has kept Chelsea in games. He’s not all terrible

Its joao pedro not pedro neto

    I’d literally take both
