• I really hope that Sesko scores soon and gains momentum, before he becomes another Hojlund. Pretty sure I read somewhere that he's the U23 top scorer in all European leagues, so I truly believe that he can come good here at United.

Well, not to be a downer but Hojlund scored 16 goals before turning into that 2nd season Hojlund...

Champions League Hojlund was special. I'll never forgive Onana

ETH. Not Onana. He did not bring himself to Manchester

To be fair to Ten Hag, Onana was quite good at Inter.

I saw some data shortly after we signed him that basically showed how his one massively successful Champions League campaign was a huge outlier in his performance. His performance in humdrum league games was about the same as it was at United.

I can't remember the exact measure they were using, I think it was performance vs expected goals.

He was a poor keeper even in his Ajax days. Most of those goals conceded against Spurs in the CL semifinals was his fault.

Inter had a very defensive setup so that helped cover up his weaknesses

We all wanted him after that UCL final, that year De Gea was also letting silly goals in. Most of the goals in the 7-0 defeat could have been prevented, and there was the whole fumble with Sevilla

The fact he was still our 4th top scorer in his worse season and had around 7goals at this stage last year shows the team was a complete failure. You can go and see his last shots for united and you will see how poor the service was. On the other hand,Amad and Garnacho had more shots than him because they wanted to score from every angle.

Garnacho was especially bad. Dude didn't square the ball one damn time and had almost no end product to make up for his greed.

He had 1 league goal at this point and no assists. In the cl he had goals yes but Sesko hasn’t really had other competitions to play in plus has been injured for a bit. He hasn’t really had the opportunity to build momentum. I would still bet Sesko outscores Rasmus league tally this season (if he doesn’t get injured often).

I was talking about last year. Not his first season. He had 2 league goals 5Europa league. Seako got a start against Grimsby in Carabao and our team was out. So no more game in Carabao. But there's a FA cup for him. It should be less pressure for him as he is playing mostly 1game a week.

Yeah but he also just got back from injury as well. If we have everyone fit I don’t think he even starts the last few games. Sesko has started 8 games and scored 2 and assisted 1 so far, the rest have been sub appearances because he was signed late in the summer and had to build fitness and then got injured after scoring 2 and assisting 1 in 5 games.

Sesko was the worst option man utd could go for to replace Højlund. You replaced young striker with another young striker. Not having a senior make this a struggle.Højlund wasn't even the right option. They have none to learn from.Should have gone for Watkins atleast or a PL proven not so old striker.

I hope Sesko will not become Højlund after returning from injury. Højlund was good last season till his injury.Sesko also suffered from an injury. Hope for the best. But he will get sub appearances if we bought another striker in the January.

He also didn’t score a league goal until Boxing Day 2023. I’m not worried about Sesko because he’s doing the right things, just overthinking the final action. Hojlund deadass wouldn’t get chances in the box because his runs were so bad. Sesko is having a stop start season so far due to injuries but he’ll be alright.

I'm worried about him because he looks below par for what a league winning striker looks like these days.

There’s only one league winning striker in this league and that’s Haaland.

Rasmus’s problem was never finishing, tbf that’s one of the things he was half decent at. It’s when you look at his other attributes that you realize he was just not that great a footballer. Love his attitude but he was never going to be a success here at United.

He shoots incredibly rarely. Barely averages over 1 a game. That's not changed in Napoli either.

Averages about a shot and a half per game. Not really that great

"he was just not that great a footballer"

The shit one can read on reddit without a shred of awareness is wild

Yeah but he scored all his league goals within a month or so hah

    [deleted]

Well, welcome. but I am not sure if you are lucky or unlucky at this moment.

Sesko looks like he offers more going forward in the build up of an attack. Hojlund seemed to want to be our version of a tap in merchant and then grew frustrated when he wasn't getting the service that he thought he deserved. But he lost the ball most of the times he was put under pressure which is why they didn't seem to trust him to score.

Despite Sesko not scoring today, it did seem like he had some pretty good link up play and was able to carry the ball despite pressure. I think he will come good with time, hopefully.

He was our best and hardest working player bar the goalkeeper. But he needs to score his chances.

Also two of his three good chances were partly due to him doing very well to get himself that chance. The Casemiro one is bad, but the others would have been good efforts

Tap in merchamt?? In his 1st season, his avg distance from goal when he scored was 11.3 yards.

I was gonna say, the Hojlund I remember was never in the box because he was always dropping to get a touch of the ball

Well, that's not right either. Eight of his 16 goals that season were in the 6-yard box.

I'm not talking about that season, more so the latter stages of his career here as that's what is more memorable for me. I just remember him constantly dropping to link up play and being unable to get into the box for the end delivery.

That may be. I'm a fan of his, but he did have a terrible season laat year. Of course, essentially everyone did minus Bruno.

These people dont watch football. They create agenda that suits them at the time and follow it until new agenda drops

so closer to goal than the penalty spot.

    What's your point?

he is a tap on merchant, 90% of the pitch is behind him. he is also shite.

Sesko needs to attack the ball with more aggression and be quicker on the ball. He takes too long a lot of the time when he's got the ball in a dangerous position. It will come with game time but he's looking flustered which can turn ugly quick as we saw with Hojlund

It looks like he thinks about what to do next, and his first touch doesn't allow him to moment before the opponent closes down on him.

Hojlund is better. And not a diss - I think Hojlund is really good. A lot of pace and power - more potential than Sesko

Hojlund is much better than Sesko

  • This is what his 3rd game back from injury and first game finishing all 90 minutes. He’s only getting into better spots and the goals will come. He’s working incredibly hard and you can see that he wants to succeed. His time will come. I only hope the fan base can give him the patience he needs.

Yeah despite his lack of scoring he probably had 2-3 good chances that were also our best chances of the game. The header on the post, Casemiro chipped ball plus the one that was on target but was deflected but we weren't given a corner for.

This is what you guys have been saying about every United player for the last decade.

  • Thought he was incredibly unlucky today. The one time we played him in behind he had that wicked attempt that barely missed (which should have been a corner). Multiple headers on the target. Movement is good just needs to keep getting the service to show hes a proper threat in the box. Can only open the game up for others imo.

Someone tell Slabhead and Casemiro to teach Sesko how to head in goals

Unlucky is being quite generous. He should’ve scored the header on the corner, and the one from Casemiro’s cross. His play is generally ok, but when the time comes as an attacker you’ve got to put good chances away and he didn’t do that.

Exactly. Im hopeful he gets better with time but he should really have 5 or 6 goals by now based on the opportunities and service he’s received this far into the season.

He offers much more in hold up play and build than any striker we’ve had in a long time. He’s very skilful and can definitely pick a pass.

I’m not worried about the lack of finishing (yet). He’s shown he’s a decent enough finisher previously in his career and finishing can very much be a confidence thing for strikers, I think (hope) if he gets 2 or 3 goals in a short span he’ll go on a tear.

He hardly scored any goals in Bundasliga. What are you talking about

    27 in 64 games.

Fully agree. United fans are so accepting of mediocrity. Myself included.

    That is being generous.

His movement isn't that good, he's a step behind the play too often. There was a quote mid week by Lineker about Gyokeres that could equally apply here - something like he always waits to see where the ball is going when he should be gambling on moving to where the ball will be.

I should say I think he could be great but he needs to be braver. I reckon he (like hojlund actually) would really benefit from an old master to shadow.

What’s Henrik Larsson up to these days?

It’s funny. In the daily discussion the other day, people were calling gyokeres a dud based on his impact and output so far. They didn’t like when i brought up the fact that 5 months into the season he’s been more productive than our own, Sesko.

Except sesko was never expected to be the finished article and gyokeres was signed for instant impact.

To be fair to Sesko he is constantly making runs but we never play him in, only 1 of his runs yesterday was a ball played over the top and he nearly scored, not sure why we aren't trying to find him more

Did you also bring up the fact he’s playing for a better team, in multiple competitions and has taken a couple of penalties?

If he gets more service hell stop snatching at chances and everything will click. I think that's a big ask though because this team has had a reputation of starving the main man up top and this year the players are even more selfish.

He’s also going to suffer (like Gyokeres, and any other striker that comes into England) with the endless comparisons that media will make to Haaland. There’s only one Haaland, but because of the transfer fees, the comparison will be instant and cruel.

Imagine if we had signed Gyokeres - Sesko at least has youth on his side - it would be so, so ugly with this fanbase right now with him

Just give him time, he needs service, he made some good runs - what United fans say about every dud, over the last 15 years

Does he pass the eye test? Not for me. Jack of all trades, but not good at anything

I think we're just cursed. Wordclass players mysteriously start missing sitters when they come here

Sesko has never been world class. World class strikers are haaland kane lewa mbappe if u count him as striker even lautaro martinez. Sesko is no where near close. Maybe he'll be one day, hopefully

This club cannot attract world class anymore.. Sad but true

You can if you are ambitious enough. All those strikers will cost 400kpw in wages minimum and the club has gaslight the fanbase into believing that those kind of wages cannot be paid by a club that earns 650m a year

We could have had Ollie Watkins who is at least proven PL goal scorer. Sesko is an unproven project. Can't get top 4 with him leading the line.

Watkins has been diabolical. 6 goals in 26 appearances and was literally goalless for months

    Ollie is struggling this season

    TF you mean world class?

What world class players have joined ManUtd in recent years?

Headers are weak, finishing not ruthless enough. Never in the corners. Link up play good but his first job is to score goals. This is the equivalent of the salesperson being hot and nice to everyone but can’t close deals for shit

    It was wolves

  • It was impressive when he bodied the defender to take it inside and get a shot off and he’s getting on the end of crosses. I think he could do with staying central more and being a wall pass rather than looking to run inside to outside so often or find space in the channel. Struggling to find a lot of optimism but he’s alright.

  • His problem is his techique, he takes to many touches to score. His headers are better altough not vs Wolves. I think his confidence might sink and he ends up being like Hojlund.

  • Just need to open the floodgates

  • Bro is 6'7 and has a vertical leap of like 6 feet and the wingbacks can't cross for shit.

  • I don't think anybody had a great game last night tbf. Even Cunha was pretty bad...

    Apart from maybe Lammens.

  • Cunha couldve passed to him and put him through to goal at least on one occasion. The guy needs some service, like Hoijlund needed. Its almost as if he's invisible. I do see more crosses into the box which is good. They need to use his height

  • I'm so sad to say I am disappointed in him today 🫤 we need our striker to score goals. He needs to step up

I’m inclined to agree. He was very wasteful infront of goal. Had more than enough chances provided to him.

  • multiple different strikers have struggled under this manager and people want to continue blaming the strikers themselves?

We haven’t had a solid striker since Cavani

So the strikers not being able to score clearcut chances is now on the manager?

    Lmao

yeah when they barely get any good chances created for them lol

He had about 3 clear cut ones today

    he didn’t but okay

how consistently do we create actual big chances for him? most of the time he’s just chasing shit long balls or trying to get on the end of shit crosses

not like he’s been good but sick of blaming different players for the exact same problems

his highest xG chance was 0.12 and his total xG for the match was 0.44 btw - watching the match he did not miss any sitters

He headed that beautiful chip from Casemiro. That's a goal for 90% of the top teams around the world.

He absolutely did miss one sitter. You’re either misremembering or gaslighting.

i’ll leave the gaslighting to Amorim

    Sounds good. ;)

What clearcut chances were there today? That header from casemiros floated ball? That's not a clearcut chance at all

It was basically a 1on1 with the keeper.

This team created almost nothing against one of the worst sides the Premier League has ever seen. Scoring basically comes down to individual brilliance.

Which was basically the problem at the end of EtH and OGS. Individual brilliance.

  • Why do we continue to have conversations about how good a striker is about everything but putting the ball in the back of the net? I was a fan of Hojlund. I wanted him to work out. Now we are all about Sesko does so much to hold up play in transition. That’s great if we are scoring goals elsewhere but we need someone to put the ball in the back of the net consistently.

  • Had a few heading chances but only a few. Granted wolves positioned well to block players at the byline for crosses, we really need to do more to put crosses in.

We have a freaking tower in Sesko and we always attempt to cross on the byline. Need to vary with crosses from the deep

  • Dreadful. Simple as that. We paid 80mil for him and people here are not even questioning what this guy is good at. Linking up play? A few flicks here n there? Oh but we have to wait atleast 5 years for him to suddenly unleash his full "potential" till then we're just short of a striker

66.7m. If you are exaggerating, might as well say 100m and be done with it.

He’ll cost €85m or £73.7m inclusive of addons if you need to be pedantic

Thats because he doesnt want to be there......he had a clause in his contract that he could activate, and leave for £50 million. But he made Newcastle and Man Utd pay full price, hoping it would scare them off

Man Utd and delusion goes hand in hand.

Yeah, it was a daft bit of business in hindsight. We needed the two number 10s but after getting them the best use of our money would’ve been a midfielder, and muddle through with Hojlund, and/or take a punt on someone a bit older but cheaper (or even free, in Calvert-Lewin’s case). Maybe in the long run he’ll be an upgrade on Hojlund but right now he looks all at sea and to compound this our midfield is hopeless.

I agree with u on the midfielder part but trust me in this system no midfielder in the world can cover that much space , especially alongside Bruno. On top of that teams crowd the midfield so we're also outnumbered there. Teams do leave a lot of space for our wingbacks to run into but they're shit too so no hope in this 343 system

Literally any midfielder that can run is going to be an upgrade on what we currently have. And whether we play a back 3 or 4 the issues at full back/wing back will persist because only really Maz is any good right now.

Like I said, that money could’ve been spent better elsewhere. But here we are.

True and this team will definitely look 10x better if we switched to 433. That's the only fix we have for midfield issue and our poor wingbacky issue.

What even is this opinion? How can you see these stats and say dreadful. There are so much shit written in this sub. Get a fucking life

  • Still finding his footing but that header miss is tough. Currently looking like Hojlund 2.0.

Højlund 2.0 in a better squad even

Hojlund looks like barely a footballer at times. Sesko is a massive upgrade.

Too many Hojlund fanboys don't want to admit that Sesko was dangerous yesterday and it's the kind of game that Hojlund would have been a passenger in.

I agree that Sesko is an upgrade he's just not showing it yet.

Hojlund was POOR for us, but he had way more impact than Sesko currently has had.

Hojlund only scored his first Prem goal on Boxing Day.

Jesus if hojund played a game like sesko did last night it would have been his best game all year

  • The main thing right now is that he’s putting himself in positions to score and is getting shots off. It’s the bare minimum for a striker but also something we lacked last season. The goals will come.

  • I'm adamant about it since the start of the season and I'm ready to take another few hundred of downvotes, but Sesko is not better than Hojlund

Hojlund has a more potential. Big, fast, aggressive.

  • I'd say he looks promising. The dribble and left foot crossbar shot against Newcastle, the first chance he created for himself yesterday, the touch/dribble and shot that almost led to the goal by Dorgu etc.

Then again, he obviously needs to start being more clinical and converting at a higher rate. Hopefully that will come. He's still played less than 1000 minutes in the PL (less than 10 full 90-minute games). If he's missing chances at this rate when he's played 2000 minutes (assuming he stays relatively healthy), then I will start worrying much more.

  • First season Hojlund was okay before the confidence got down with the whole team.

Sesko even got better teammates than Hojlund. He should at least be compared to first Season Hojlund.

I know it's easier to cope with the 2'nd season Hojlund, but the whole team suffered then.

  • I don't think Šeško is the answer to the Højlund problem. No one seems to hit the ground running when they join this club.

  • shit player wasted another 80m

  • Sesko still has time on his side to prove everyone wrong, but unless he has a STRONG second half, and I'm talking about elite numbers, he will be considered rightfully as a flop.

  • Genuine question… how’s he missed two big chances but our xG was 0.84 from a total of 15 shots?

Surely a ‘big chance’ is one you’d expect to be scored, so would be 0.51 xG each at the very very least.

  • Honestly not impressed at this point.

He isn't scoring goals, and that is the benchmark for what you want from a striker.

He is like a manager with a win percentage of 39%.

Nobody wants to watch a striker who can't score or a manger who can't manage to win...

    Oh wait.

  • I’m not sold on him yet. I was told he’d be an instant upgrade on Hojland and so far he’s been…fine? “Has potential” is great if you’re one of four great strikers like we used to have but if you’re the main man, we need someone to make an impact. He’s had time to get a taste for the league and he needs to quicken up those feet. He seems so laborious on the ball.

  • Has anyone looked at how he scored his goals before coming to United to check whether that suits our passy-passy, slow motion possession play?

He seemed to score a lot of bangers at Leipzig, but you can clearly see in his highlights that those Bundesliga defenders give him a lot more space than he gets in the Prem (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6lqH\_\_mQM8). Take this with a grain of salt though, since I haven't actually watched all his games, just a few highlight reels.

Yep. Spot on. He had a lot more space. Used his power to move past defenders too. Our high pressing game crowds him and when we take it back for a reset (to draw opponents out) we're too deliberate. He won't score many goals if we keep playing the way we do. We need a dribbling CAM to make our system work. Maybe we can get something out of Sesko if he can constantly make runs to the far post and someone can lift it into the 6yd box (de Bruyne style) for him to nod home

  • He’s looked good the last 2 games

    At what?

Actually getting in to chance scoring positions and looking dangerous

A far cry from Hojlund who'd just wrestle defenders and lose all game

  • I had hopes for Sesko, not that much hopes as many expected. I have seen him before. He missed these type of chances regularly in previous seasons. Couldn't score 15goals in the Bundesliga. Woltemade and Ekitike both came from Bundesliga and they are technically much better.

  • Honestly I’m not too hopeful on this guy becoming a success here. I hope he does kick off, but he can’t seem to finish chances off

  • I am NOT a footballer and haven’t played since I was a kid. I am just in the last 4 years really coming to love this game. I have watched a lot and hold season tix to my city’s club. Sesko to me looks like he can be a hell of a player. His off ball and hold up/flicks seem above average and far superior to Hojland and Zirkzee… however, his inability to finish has started to concern. I was a goal scorer in my own sport, so I am not totally ignorant. The most shocking have been the crossbar ping against Newcastle and the post header + header from Casemiro (that would have been onside by VAR) that was directly at the keeper. He has tremendous size and strength, but I fear he doesn’t have the final element - the scorer’s aim and touch. Has he succeeded to this point on the physicality and is now faced with having to perform at the highest level and is getting exposed? Or is he just young and needs a little more time? I fear he’s a bit below the level and won’t be able to reach it. All that said, I really want him to turn out.

His finishing was quite good in bundesliga, I guess its just matter of confidence. He gets visibly confused when in final third

It wasn't. You don't get less than 15 goals in Bundesliga with good finishing skills. I have watched him and his finishing is not that good. You guys just watched some clips and thought he is better than Højlund but he misses most of the chances.

His finishing for Slovenia and RBL wasn't quite good, he missed easy chances all the time.

13 goals, 2 of which were penalties and 3 from outside the box.

  • do you guys think harry kane could work in our team?what made it so hard to service the striker?the strategy or the strikers quality?

  • Who would have thought a young project striker would get to United and stink. Seriously this recruitment team is diabolical

  • The problem is amorum tactics. 3 CB, 2 WB, 1 Case. 1 Ugarte. You are left with 2 creatives to support Sesko. Playing wide WB, they have to make crosses, and guess what? It is only Sesko in the box challenging for it. That lazy donkey Zirkzee on the pitch makes it really down to 1 creatives.

  • This sub is delusional with Sesko. Call a spade a spade, he ain’t good enough. Offers nothing more than Hojlund. It happens, Wilcox and Vivell should quickly act, count losses and find a new striker.

  • Atleast hes not an Isak size flop

Isak has scored more goals than him though

lol our fans love dishing it out but hate when confronted with the reality that our own player is objectively offering less.

  • 6 shots with 4 OT is good. I remember Hojlund had multiple games with 0 shots.

  • He's not good enough.

Partly his fault, but partly also because we don't provide him with much service.

However, against wolves he had a fair few chances and failed to convert any.

Its clear we need someone better upfront in January.

  • This is how I know, this stat is big BS! When Dorgu played a long ball forward, didn’t Sesko take the ball, turn while holding and shoot wide after that? How’s that not a chance created?! Smh!

Because thats not what Chances created is. Thats an off target shot.

"Chances created" has a very specific definition in the stats. But yeah, I agree that eye test is always needed so that his first attempt that he essentially created for himself is properly evaluated.

  • I like Sesko who seems like a good kid but this team needed a proven goal scorer like Ollie Watkins who was available. Top 4 was there to be had but they don't have a finisher. His teammates look like they have no trust in him.

  • Absolute shite. Manager sets him up to lose today. Get the crank out of our club.

  • Sesko is a clear upgrade over Hojlund. He has potential and actually looks like a footballer.

He's 23, and not 17. But you settle for the bare minimum.

  • He looked sharp yesterday but chances are coming few and far between so he needs to start taking them, just needs a little bit of luck, on another day he easily gets a couple of goals there.

  • All the wrong places

  • Spend 70m to be in the exact same position

    UnItEd dNA

  • Funnily enough if we had kept Hojlund instead of Zirshitty we could've had a solid strike partnership.

Honestly they'd work of each other so much. Literally would've loved to see both of them work together in a 3-5-2

Zirkzee, the only guy that scored today?

You mean the lucky deflected shot?

Dude it was a lucky deflection.

  • Does the bloke ever lift his head up when he has the ball. FFS they taught us that in under 9s.

  • It's not the players. It's the system they are forced to play in. Round pegs in square holes.

  • Think we found our #6, guys

  • You need to take into account that he doesnt want to there. He was hoping for one of the big spanish teams or Arsenal, but that deal fell through.

He had a clause in his contract, that he could activate, so he could leave for a cheap fee - he refused to activate it for Newcastle or Man Utd. They had to pay full price. Obviously because he wanted to scare them off, or stall until another team came in.

This is what you guys never consider.  How motivated players are. Yoro doesnt want to be there either. He was trying to move to Real Madrid as well.

Believe it or not, playing in the north west, in the middle of winter, isnt that appealing since Fergie left
