I think it's not an actual swap transaction, but a quid pro quo where they say OK we're both interested in a player of the other team, let's work out the details of both deals in a way that recognises that.
He's what Martinez was that one time he played in midfield, great passing and vision, slow but defensively ok but with more technical ability and threat from long distance. I think he wouldn't be just a body in the midfield. A lot of people rated Martinez' cameo as a midfielder.
Him and Ugarte don't even play the same way and he'll have the same issues unless he plays alongside Casemiro. Neves has good (even great) passing range and decent ball retention but he's very frail defensively, because He has poor positioning and is not mobile. He's basically Mainoo with better passing and worse ball carrying, and if Mainoo can't play alongside Bruno then neither can Neves.
We don't have a central midfielder with passing range. Bruno has it but he's not a central midfielder. His high risk instinct belongs further up the pitch. Neves at his best is a midfield general in the mould of Carrick. Smart positioning to negate his lack of pure athleticism, an ability to receive the ball deep and game intelligence to set tempo and build attacks.
One thing I think needs to be made clear here and I'm sure it's the case with most people making player suggestions: it's all dependent on financial feasibility. If Neves costs £50m is asking for 200k+ then he's not worth it. But for a reasonable package he would really improve us in our weakest area.
Our midfield is such a problem. We of course need to be looking at long term starters (like Anderson, Wharton, Baleba etc) but squad players are also vital if we plan on being competitive throughout a long season in multiple competitions.
Under Amorim the starting pivot is Bruno-Casemiro. Neves ain't benching either of them because he's not as good as either of them at the job they do. If Amorim decides to move to a 3-man midfield or pushes Bruno forward then Neves would be a very good addition, but with this current system he's just another body.
Neves was never one of the best CMs in the league imo. Decent player and nothing more than that, there's a reason why no serious team ever tried to sign him and he went to Saudi at 26.
70M should be chump change for someone who was supposedly "one of the best midfielders in the league", no? Tchouameni and Camavinga went for how much a couple of years ago? We even bought an aging Casemiro for the same amount. Surely 70M isn't too much to spend if Neves was truly as good as you say he was.
Or Garner or João Gomes or some other decent midfielder that the club has scouted. Ugarte just isn't the profile of player suitable for a team with big ambitions. Technically and IQ wise he's just not it. If you have one of those things and not the other you can still be successful. But without either you become a liability.
He'd be playing the Bruno role but as a natural central midfielder. I'm hoping Ruben will persist with a 4-3-3 long term. Bruno is one of the best 10s of his generation. Get him doing what he's elite at high up the field and play a proper CM next to Casemiro
Ertan is pretty reliable for us, he is tier 1 on our sub. His report was 'Player is keen, he is the option "closest" (compared to other names) and Utd are not against a loan with an option offer'.
Don't know loans would be smth Utd would consider. He says player side conveyed that he wants to play more due to World Cup.
we need a net plus two CMs in January, not to further thin out the position. get Garner in immediately, then maybe sell Ugarte if we can line up a second one, maybe.
He looked alright in a pivot and the midfield is lacking bodies as it is. He's been a bit shite but there's players I'd see go before him due to a lack of options in his position. I'd rather keep him and buy a replacement.
I wouldn't sell him at all, he is good depth when he isn't playing as a lone 6. There are questions about Casemiro, Maino and Bruno staying this year, so does anyone think we can replace 4 midfielders in a Summer when we struggle to sign a single one each year?
We signed five players last summer. Bruno will stay, he doesn't want to leave and we wouldn't/couldn't/shouldn't force him out. Collyer's obviously been brought back as cover, thought it was strange he was allowed out in the summer. Obviously not ready to play every game but plenty to like about him, could see him around for another year or two then sold. It's not out of the question we sign one in January, so do you really think another two in the summer is beyond the current recruitment department when they went and got us a new attack and a keeper last summer? Ugarte is not the answer.
What a stinker he had last night; there was an action when he missed the passed and then just stopped, froze on the spot, not moving, in the midfield… how is that acceptable from a Man United player is beyond comprehension. He needs to go ASAP, he’s not Man Utd level, dare I say, not even PL level.
Get him gone and replace him
If we could work out a swap deal for Kone and Zirkzee with Roma it would be ideal. Get rid of Ugarte and bring in an experienced backup striker.
Where do these delusions about a swap deal even come from?
Especially when swap deals barely happen, and definitely not the likes of Kone for a barely there Zirkzee 😂
Fifa

Football manager 😂 Fc26
they're not doing that lmao
It'll probably be in the summer. If Ugarte goes, we need minimum 2 new midfielders, ideally 3.
This just makes Ugarte sound like a beast lmao.
I meant with the context of Casemiro most likely leaving on a free this summer leaving us with just Bruno and Mainoo as midfield options.
I know haha. Just sounds hilarious out of context, especially given how terrible he's been for us.
"We need 3 players to replace Ugarte"
Fairs haha
Reports said Casemiro was willing to take a paycut to stay, and Amorim rates him. So I don’t think he’s going anywhere
Pay cut lol. We shouldn’t be giving him an extension even at 50k/week
Why? He’s been fine this season and we need players. We aren’t going to sign 3 midfielders better than him in one window.
We cannot replace him, we cannot
Ugarte is so far below PL average we need 2 to 3 new midfielders regardless
Ugarte should be sold but not in January when we are already thin on the CM position. Mainoo wanting to leave isn’t ideal either
Sell him and get Ruben Neves in January
Ruben Neves is just another body in midfield which is fine because we're stretched but people are acting like he'll fix any of our issues
He's what Martinez was that one time he played in midfield, great passing and vision, slow but defensively ok but with more technical ability and threat from long distance. I think he wouldn't be just a body in the midfield. A lot of people rated Martinez' cameo as a midfielder.
He's a good player but amorim depends on fast moving all action midfielder which nerves is not. That's why I have reservations.
What are some players in the mould? Baleba?
He won't fix all our issues but he'll be a massive upgrade on Ugarte.
Him and Ugarte don't even play the same way and he'll have the same issues unless he plays alongside Casemiro. Neves has good (even great) passing range and decent ball retention but he's very frail defensively, because He has poor positioning and is not mobile. He's hardly another body when he was one of the best CMs in the league only a few years ago
Neves was never one of the best CMs in the league imo. Decent player and nothing more than that, there's a reason why no serious team ever tried to sign him and he went to Saudi at 26.
Fully wrong dint know what else to tell you
He wasn't even Wolves' best midfielder when he was there lol
What difference does that make? Neves had a 70m price tag because Wolves didnt want to lose him.
Neves was not better than current James Garner.
70m four years ago was not an amount United wanted to spend when Casemiro went for 60m. You clearly didn't watch Wolves or football back then
I just noticed he’s 28… why did I think he was like 32?
Even with a few years in Saudi, I wouldn’t mind Neves, we need depth and I think would work well under Amorim and has PL experience
Or Garner or João Gomes or some other decent midfielder that the club has scouted. Ugarte just isn't the profile of player suitable for a team with big ambitions. Technically and IQ wise he's just not it. If you have one of those things and not the other you can still be successful. But without either you become a liability.
Does Neves have the engine to cover?
He can play a Carrick esque role, dont forget he was really good at Wolves
No but he can pass
I do worry about that. Neves next to Bruno sounds like a potential disaster.
He'd be playing the Bruno role but as a natural central midfielder. I'm hoping Ruben will persist with a 4-3-3 long term. Bruno is one of the best 10s of his generation. Get him doing what he's elite at high up the field and play a proper CM next to Casemiro
Shut up. The guy is shite. Just take the hit and run. Absolute wank player and brings nothing
I will only sell Ugarte if we can guarantee a replacement
Absolutely. But the way Ugarte plays, I really don't think we'd have to try too hard to find someone more useful
Earlier today some Turkish journos were reporting that Gala have 'made significant progress' re Ugarte
Only if we can bring in 2 midfielders in January please
Midfield could look drastically different very soon
Good bring in garner and then replace Casemiro in the summer
we need a net plus two CMs in January, not to further thin out the position. get Garner in immediately, then maybe sell Ugarte if we can line up a second one, maybe.
Don't see him going this window, but in the summer, he's as sure as gone.
30 mil and he's yours
Box of Baclava to my address and he’s yours.
Ugarte is a Lucas Torreira regen for sure
Be hilarious if ugarte started playing unreal in this 4-2-3-1
good, get rid of him, bring Garner on a cheap this january and another midfielder in the summer.
Garner on a cheap?? Why would Everton sell on a cheap? They have an injury crisis of their own.
I know Romano said 3 years ago there was a buy back clause but I haven’t heard anyone mention it in our links to him.
He looked alright in a pivot and the midfield is lacking bodies as it is. He's been a bit shite but there's players I'd see go before him due to a lack of options in his position. I'd rather keep him and buy a replacement.
Sell him and get Garner for the reported buy back.

Bye!! I’d rather play literally anyone else at CM. Ugarte’s passing has led to no less than 5 equalizers this season alone.
Does he need a lift to the airport?
INEOS ARE YOU MAD!!!!!
IYKYK
Wouldn't mind getting rid and getting Ruben Neves in.
Wonderful, work at this speed with the bad transfers and we will be fine.
It can't possibly be that hard to find a replacement. Really we ought to have deals ready to go but that never seems to be the case.
Please leave
I just hope he fucks off, don’t care where. Worse transfer than Antooooony
Good hes wank, see ya pal.
Get rid of him, please
PAY UP
Why would he go to Turkey? Ugarte's hair seems fine to me.
What a stinker he had last night; there was an action when he missed the passed and then just stopped, froze on the spot, not moving, in the midfield… how is that acceptable from a Man United player is beyond comprehension. He needs to go ASAP, he’s not Man Utd level, dare I say, not even PL level.
Mainoo for McTominay loan swap til the end of the season, no options, I'd take that all day long
Ask if they want a shithouse Slovenian striker as well
What's exciting is, Ineos have said they're not letting players go unless we have one close to being completed ir completed ourselves
