I was feeling pretty good about my betas until today. My RE has been watching them very closely. My betas are as follows since I found out:

1 on 12/19 - 74 (3 weeks 5 days)

2 on 12/21 - 174 (4 weeks)

3 on 12/24 - 657 (4 weeks 3 days)

4 on 12/26 - 1,512 (4 weeks 5 days)

5 on 12/28 - 3,599 (5 weeks)

6 on 12/30 - 6,518 (5 weeks 2 days)

I’m worried about the last one (the change from beta 5 to 6). It was 46 hours and it wasn’t even close to double. It had been doubling so well up to that point so I am really worried about the sudden slow rise. I don’t have any ultrasound until Jan 7th and I’m terrified.

Anyone have any insight on this? Should I prepare for the worst? From what I’ve seen HCG shouldn’t slow down until it reaches the peak around 8-10 weeks.

  • Your betas look awesome!! I would stop doing them as they definitely take longer to double after they hit the 1000s. The scan will tell you way more but not only were your early doubling times great, the numbers are high for the gestation which is also reassuring!

Thank you for this bit of reassurance! I’ve never been checked this closely in my other pregnancies before so I felt completely blind-sided by these results and wasn’t sure what to think. Hopefully all will be okay! I think up until today they were following what I was “googling” but then when they didn’t double today I panicked and of course my doctor is out of the office for the new year right now so he hasn’t called to explain the result 😅 I think I’m going to take a chill pill and try and relax 🥴

  • Past 2000 hcg scans are a more reliable source...have you had any scans?

Nope, nothing yet. I have my first ultrasound scheduled for the 7th. I should be around 6 weeks 3 days by then. That’s the earliest my OB would see me. Is there anywhere else I could go for an earlier scan?

Easier said than done but I would say ignore the HCG and wait for the scan. I was told when hcg reached 1500 or 2000 there is most certainly enough there for a sac, fetal pole and potentially a heart beat. Because your betas are still increasing beautifully - be reassured by that and try wait for the scan. I would say 6w 3 days is a good early enough time for a scan anyway. Not sure why your specialist is drawing so many betas. Where iam from they draw twice even with recurrent pregnancy loss and then just go for a scan because betas dont tell the story after a certain point unless theyre dropping (i.e lesser than the last draw, which is not your case)

Yeah, as far as I’m reading it looks like the number can take as long as 96+ hours to double at this point so I’m not sure why they’re so obsessed with the numbers either. It’s a new doctor I’ve never worked with during pregnancy before but he’s out of state and he is managing all of my medications (autoimmune protocol meds) via telehealth so I think he just wants to be really on top of things. He’s monitoring my progesterone like crazy too. Hopefully the scan will be good news. Just have to wait one more week!
