I am not against trial or probation but these isn't something that should be unpaid. It does take a lot of efforts to crack one conversion.

"Unfortunately, without pay I will die of exposure."
Ironically, the mere request gives the applicant "great exposure" to how they work (i.e. unethically).
If they're not hired, how are they insured?
They can expose these nuts
In response to
My response would be
No job market is worth getting taken advantage of for free labor.
Most definitely. It just shows how toxic and exploitative their work culture is about.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 ‘short … a few days‘.
I would have even considered a few hours outrageous.
I'm in an artsy field and some of the longest take-homes have been an entire work week's worth of work, i.e. 40+ hours!
A Chinese video game company once asked me to complete a two-week (80h) assignment but that was too much even for me so I declined.
At least they let you know. Usually it’s masked as 3 hours task. Just say no bro. I got rejected on the 24th after spending 50 hours on a full project, 2 available roles and the feedback was you are too good for the senior role but not too good for the principal so no to neither.
“short trial task”
“should take no more than a few days”
Um, no.
Nobody hires anymore because a lot of y'all are all doing pieces of their projects, for free.
I'm convinced a bunch these "job" ads are just for free labor, on top of the data mining, investor optics, lead generation, etc.
Hi!
I’d love to move forward with a short trial paycheck, just to see how capable your accounting is in a real scenario. This shouldn’t be more than a few days’ pay.
Unfortunately I’m unable to work during this period, but I’ll say great things about your company!
Let me know if y’all are still interested!
"I would prefer it if you wouldn't expose yourself to me"
Was that a gdq reference
This is indecent. Indecent exposure.
Ask them to call you, and tell them how can they expect you to do their work without being trained into their work flow and not being paid.
Translation: We want to enslave you to do the work because our internal candidate that we are going to hire anyway cannot do the job.
My response would be - “Request denied. Slavery was abolished a long time ago despite your clear efforts to restore the practice to its former state.”
If these is for longer time, then they are basically trying to exploit you.
Exactly, they're basically trying to make me work for about a week for free, I don't demand a lot but basics compensation should be provided.
Immediately no!
Great exposure to how we work….unpaid
Definitely should be paid. Sounds like they are looking for someone to work for free.
I just keep thinking how one-way this is. Would it be equivalent from the potential employee's point of view to ask to see anonymized performance reviews for the previous person in the role or other team members?
Call a spade a spade. This isn’t a trial, it’s them wanting to get free labor out of folks.
DAYS? Absolutely not
I hate people abusing the word 'unfortunate' like this. It's not bad fortune, it's your decision.
The egregious part is they have the money but just don’t want to pay. Same energy when raises are denied, “Now’s not the right time”.
No
Depends on the salary. Some companies have Google requirements with a McDonalds salary.
so they want you to temporarily work for free for a few days to see if you are worthy enough to work for free for them permanently 🙄
Don’t even bother replying.
I’d also expose the name of the job too.
Thank you. Next!
Needs clarification.
Nothing wrong with a work sample as part of the process, but "a few days" is very worrying - it shouldn't be more than a couple of hours at most (and should be on a fake sample, not real - real-ish, or reality-based is one thing, "real scenarios" is very different).
"Oh this is a scam job....thanks for the heads up! :D Delete my resume, or you'll hear from my lawyer...really shouldn't actually have physical locations if you're going to try to pull some illegal shit."
Yes. Direct to the lawyer threat. Because that's what these shits deserve.
We want you to do unpaid work for us so we can see if you’re a piece garbage or JUST enough to be worth our time.
That’s what the probation period is for…
Whatever happened to hiring somebody, putting them on a 90-day probation, but of course they're real employees during that 90 days so if they work them they get paid for them?
This is now replaced by "work for us for 3 to 7 days unpaid. We will get free work from you, but then let you go because we weren't planning to hire you in the first place."
They didn't pay, most times don't even open your work once - unpaid 2-3 days?
NO, THANK YOU.
If they are in the States please report them to the DOL
Just do it. If you are unemployed. If you have a job and don’t mind working till you get something better don’t bother with this company.
Think this. If you were the company and sent the task to 100 applicants, how much money would that cost for a single role? If the company is hirig 50 people x 100 applicants x 3 days (and 500$ per day). That would be 7.5 million dollar :) I don't think any company can afford that.
What sort of dumbass voodoo math is this, who gets paid 500 USD a day? And why are they inviting 100 applicants to this task? Why do they need a fking 3 day trial? I work at a fortune 100 and have never heard of something this absurd
Just because you don't sniff 60+ dollars an hour doesn't mean no one makes over $500 a day.
I make more than your family mate, so sit down and nobody is earning that for a trial
On what planet would they be having 100 applicants do this task? It should be limited to a finalist
