Tbf, this has been happening for a while. Someone will want more years’ experience in a programming language than the language has existed for, or similar.
It’s just whoever is writing the job posting (HR or recruiting) not actually being familiar with the job and taking whatever the hiring manager said and doing a bad job translating it (for example, hiring manager says ‘expert level xyz’ and the recruiter just blindly translates that to ‘7-10 years’ experience.’
I understand what you are saying about the mismatch between the age of the technology and the job description.
You are the one claiming these job postings exist - why are you asking me where you can find them?
To be honest it seems difficult to believe what you are saying.
It’s hard to believe because this thread started off with some guy claiming it is a real problem with AI but no actual proof.
Do you not question anything you read on the internet?
So are you saying the problem doesn’t exist any more if you would have to time travel?
Seems like you are believe things that are hearsay and you’ve never actually seen a job posting like this.
Do I have that right?
What? No. I’m saying this is something people have complained about when other technologies were emerging, too. But I can’t find 2015 job postings anymore because they’ve long been taken down. Are you being intentionally obtuse?
With a very quick Google search, I found an example of someone complaining about this exact issue on LinkedIn in 2015, but the automod removed my post because apparently you can’t post a LinkedIn link here.
I don’t know how to post it otherwise, and I’m honestly too busy to care. But the post is called ‘Why ask for 8 years experience in something invented 5 years ago?’ It was published by Bill Ray on May 21, 2015 and specifically references NFV and Dart development.

At the interview:
Q: How did you manage to have 5 years with ChatGPT when it's only available for 3 years?
A: Overtime.
A: Worked on ChatGPT prior to release. Took two years to draw the logo.
Took Altman about 2 seconds to come up with that sneaky little palindrome of a logo
One, Two, Five.
Three, sir.
Three
Antioch ftw :)
The fact he included the release date makes this look like engagement bait. Or he's making a point about ridiculous recruiter requests.
I think he is making said point. Is it still suitable for this sub? 🤷♂️
The point is that so many recruiter requests are ridiculous and nonsensical.
Why don’t you go find one of those ridiculous recruiter requests and post that here instead of some rando’s comment?
And not be a typo
That is not a job posting.
No it is not. It is a comment on the state of ridiculousness of job requirements being asked.
And why do you believe what some random dude posted??

Can you find me an example of a job posting like this?
How could I find job postings like that? But people have always complained about this.
For example, a job listing for a social media person asking for 10 years’ experience on Facebook in 2010, when Facebook was invented in 2004.
It’s especially prominent in any emerging field, AI is just the new one now.

Sorry I’m not able to time travel to collect job listings from the past. You’re welcome to believe me or not.
But why is it hard to believe that this problem is an old, recurring issue?

I’m not so much talking about the postings as much as I’m talking about the complaining…

i mean i personally have seen stuff like this myself on job listings, so its not hard to believe
Then it seems like it should be easy to find an example right?
not entirely so, i mean ive looked at 100s upon 100s of listings a week and this was many weeks (maybe months) ago, so they are rare but they do exist
It's pretty simple actually... Just do the math... 2025 minus 2022 = 5 years.
I guess they're looking for somebody who helped develop ChatGPT?
Well, two thoughts.
I came to the conclusion that the requirement was created by a real HR / recruiter. AI / ChatGPT would probably have caught that mistake.
The first people that need to be replaced are the HR/Recruiters department, as they are not keeping up with AI technologies.
Asking for experience with ChatGPT is probably the equivalent of asking for experience with Google Search?
Easy. You prompt Chatgpt to write a prompt to ask Chatgpt something - twice the experience because you created twice the prompts 👍
chatgpts barely a toddler and they want a vet
Trying to hire OpenAI staff I guess, salary should be epic for those requirements
He meant inference wall clock time
Tell them you have 10 years experience. They'll either have to admit their fault, or go along with the ruse.
Even the NBA’s stalwart centers are getting replaced with AI, wow.
Wait no I think that’s Vucević
