This just blasted me back 20 years. Man, IDK about anyone else's local stores, but I thought it was weird that there were no Doc Ock figures until months after the movie came out. The only things available during the summer were a set that was similar to the doll 2-pack in the pic, and the Spidey that came with a subway door, that featured tentacles breaking through the windows.
The drop in quality between the toys from the second and third movies was astonishing. We really didn't know how good we had it with Toy Biz, but at least Hasbro eventually got with the program a few years down the line, with their interpretation of Marvel Legends.
I grew up in the late 80s/early 90s and I remember GI Joes used to be around $3, TMNTs were $5. The "expensive" toys were always transformers which would vary from 4 to 10 depending on the size of the figure.
I had the Spider-Man, Mary Jane, and Doc Ock figures when I was a little kid, and I really wish I knew what I had back then because I would've treasured them a lot more. Instead, me and my brother tossed them around the yard and ended up breaking them on the second day of having them. My dad was pissed to say the least.
I actually bought the 18 inch Spider-Man and it ended up tipping over and snapped one of his thumbs right off less than a week into having him. Super poseable my ass.
It’s crazy how toys increase in price and decrease in quality. My little cousins come over and play with the toys I played with over 20 years ago and they’re in love with them. The action figures back then could actually move.
I was able to pick up the poseable Spidey and doc Ock for around 5 bucks when they clearanced them out. I also remember they had a giant pile of Mary Jane's that they spent months trying to unload for $2 each a few years earlier after the first Spider-Man film came out.
This really takes me back...I had the Spider-Man figure that came with the skyscraper flag pole the figure could stick to with magnets and would spin down. I also remember getting a lot of those "wacky wall crawler" Spider-Man figures that came in solid red or blue, and were made of a sort of sticky gel/rubber material. Anyway, you would throw them on a glass door, and they stick to it, then slowly flip and flop down, as if "crawling". I remember having to keep them in sandwich bags to preserve the stickiness lol
I had the set with Spider-Man, and Doc Ock. It was cool, but I lost Otto's glasses, and I think Peter's mask broke. If there was even the slightest chance that I'd lose any detachable pieces, it was only a matter of time
Crazy how seeing these toys instantly kicks back old memories. I swear I remember staring at that shelf for way too long back then, the Doc Ock ones were always impossible to find for me.

I swear every toy aisle back then was just 12 versions of Spidey and not a single Ock in sight, like the tentacles were classified info.
Remember when toys were not only more affordable but actually better quality than the shit released today?

The spider-man 3 figures were pretty good and miles better than the regular non marvel legends figures they are out today!
They were cool! It was just annoying they were smaller than the SM2 ones and the SM1 ones
Avi Arad was actually in charge of Toy Biz btw!
Same goes for that POS, Ike Perlmutter.
Even tiny single action figures are like 20 bucks now. As a kid I remember Star Wars action figures were like 5 or 6 bucks, and way better made

Action figures are like 40 now, Star Wars in particular. It's disgusting.
Back in the day when action figures were under $15…. 🫠
Peak cinema, peak toys, peak childhood.
Put me in a fucking cannon and send me back. I was like 10 and life was good.
If I could, I’d jump into this picture like it’s Mario 64

Geez. Depending on when these were on shelves. I was either not born yet or just some months old. Weird to think about.
Dude I was working there at the time. You can't do this to me.
I’m sorry
I’m 21 years old
THIS WAS 21 YEARS AGO
Damn, $12 for an action figure!?

Man feels like a whole different world back then
Play with the MJ doll? No no I'm not gay.

Yes... The real gay thing would be to not make her have sex with the Spider-Man doll.
TF would I do with MJ's figure?
They don't make 'em like they used to.
