As someone that was a firefighter for more than 10 years when I was younger... not only were we allowed to do this... we fucking couldn't WAIT for this exact scenario to happen. We would have been giggling like school kids while our Halligans were smashing the glass.
For everyone who asks, "why can't you just run it around the car?" I seriously don't think they understand the pressure necessary and resulting from a firehose.
My father showed me a picture once when they had to use intake from a pond as a water source and a fish got sucked up, it was... Something lol.
They could in most cases. But it would result in a bit of risk, safer and more reliable to take the shortest route.
I’m sure that they could find a nondestructive workaround if they really wanted. I’m also sure that they aren’t particularly interested in being nice to the assholes blocking fire hydrants when there’s a fire so the easy and quick solution is the chosen one.
Plus breaking shit is fun. Legal permission to break something belonging to someone who’s pissing you off? And for the common good? Who could resist that?
My father was a fireman, he had to do this multiple times. He said it was always amusing when people came back and threw a fit when the hose was run through their windows and in use, and they asked if they could disconnect it for them to leave.
Like, sir? Do you see this big fire over here? Even if there wasn't a hose going through your car, the staging ground for response is not going to move the trucks and roadblocks for you to get out. Use this time to seethe and prepare for not only the cost of repairing your vehicle but also the ticket you're going to have to pay for blocking the hydrant, assuming your vehicle isn't overtaken in the fire.
This just reminded me of the video of those fire fighters going out of their way to break the windows of an illegaly parked car.
While i get their frustration the video clearly showed they lost quite a bit of time breaking the windows and in the end the hose was kinked more than it would have been if they just layed it across the hood of the car. Lol
Can anyone find it?
If my house burned down because some firemen couldn't control their emotions i'd try every legal avenue to sue the shit out of them.
Not where i'm from lol we have hydrants in the ground here.
It's not about the parking anyways tard.
It's about the fact that firefighters waste time because their emotions got the better of them. Someone can be parked illegaly and still not hinder them. In the video i was talking about that's exactly the case. The hose could run streight over the hood, yet they go out of their way to fiddle around and have it go through the car which takes time and kinks the hose lol
So they waste time and water pressure in order to break some assholes windows.
I mean no body is above the law... Fire fighters have a special exception for them written into the law which they aren't above (if your door is openable and they break all your windows they might get in trouble for how excessive that is)
/s 🤓 well ACKshually it is illegal for the firefighter to intentionally break someone's window regardless of where they are parked but do ya wanna know what is even more illegaler than that? I'll give you a hint, it starts with a "p" and ends with "arking in front of a fire hydrant."
And guess who decides which cases get prosecuted? That's right! The District Attorney! So while you are sitting there whining about your windows being smashed the firefighter is going to be relaxing at the station waiting to save the next life/house/both.
And then when you decide to file a civil suit against the firefighter guess what you'll learn that the Supreme Court says about claims against government agents during the course of their employ?
(And by you I mean the guy in the tv show)
(And no it is not illegal for a firefighter to fuck yo shit up in an emergency.)
What do you mean it's technically illegal? There are carve outs in the law specifically for when it is legal for them to break your car window. They are specifically authorized to break car windows in an emergency. There is nothing technically illegal about that.

"nobody is above the law"
-dude who thinks he should he allowed to block a hydrant
Also people get away with crimes all the time due to being rich, connected, cops, white, etc....
"Nobody is above the law" is a super naive thing to say
It's Reddit so they believe the hype.
The thing is that the firefighters are not above the law, it is just that the law specifically allows them to break the windows in such a case.
It's quite a simple concept.
It's not simple to people that are too dumb to know not to park next to a fire hydrant

Didn't the guy see Backdraft? They did it in the movie!
Don’t give a firefighter a reason to break shit, they enjoy it way to much.
I ain’t your buddy, guy.
I ain’t your guy, brother.
I ain’t your brother, man.
I ain't your man, pal.
I ain’t your pal, chief.
I ain't your chief, bucko.
If the police bust up your car, they're probably assholes.
If fire fighters bust up your care you're absolutely the asshole.
Well, the law permits this. So the idiot is actually right. By accident, but right.
"I need guns to overthrow the government" type mfer who also believes the law is apparently a universal good beyond human blight.

I don’t this is a quityourbullshit. The other person isn’t lying, they’re just wrong.

No you wouldn't.
How do you know?
And you'd lose the lawsuit. Because it's illegal to park in front of a hydrant. Tard.
Not where i'm from lol we have hydrants in the ground here.

This dude is mad ignorant if he truly believes no one is above the law.

Sorry but starting a statement with "technically" should always be correct, joke or not
Technically true because when the firefighter does it in that situation it's legal*.
