I haven't read 2600 in quite a while. Last time I checked they had gone radically downhill and become insanely political, which is just a really big turn off for me. I don't know if that's still the case, though I assume it is, but I used to really enjoy reading it. I actually had one of my own articles published in it once.
So, honestly, I know very little about this depth of technology. What in gods green earth is >1 PB of storage used for? Genuinely curious (and somewhat jealous).
I do video production. Lots of large files get stored and customers generally want their raw files archived for future use so you can charge for storage.
Also do photography and have many many years of raw photos, etc…. I’m about 1 PB but I have 3 for 3-2-1 backup. (3 copies, 2 media’s, 1 extra location)
I run a plex server and I also donate space to help distribute information that I believe is important. Books, research papers, and just about anything else i think is significant.
He's since updated the post with an edit saying that he never claimed they were his drives. Says it was just "ai meme slop" for an "internet joke". And, that you can take credit for it if you want.
Thing is, I saw the post and a lot of his responses the day of and I most certainly saw a lot of comments where he outright said they were his or eluded to it. Now, all of those comments have mysteriously disappeared.

Judging on how Y'all Qaeda is dressed, I have a guess.
“Ya’ll Qaeda” just fried me. 😂😂😂 I needed that laugh so thank you, seriously.

An insane amount of porn
Don't be so judgy, that's a perfectly reasonable amount to go through per month.

I don't have nearly as much storage as you do but I have space to spare. How does one get involved in this? I'd like to help.
Anna's archive, perma seed stuff you think is important. Look for stuff that has really low numbers.
And you're going to end up saving us in the future. Thank you.
I work in HPC. 1PB is a tiny install.
We use it for SCIENCE!

If it's was always allowed to claim they were mine, why did he block my Facebook account and not let me join when I tried doing just that?
Beats the hell outta me. Dude's a douchebag.
Huge tool, account is still banned.
Someone should tell Captain Crunch he's in his late 80s now but I'm sure he'd kick this guys ass for fucking with his l legacy

Gotcha will delete my comment
It fits, but you're an asshole, so....
Do tell?
How?
Your age is irrelevant. That's only included to brag.
Oh, Kev. You still have time to delete this.
Brag that he's more of an adult that doesn't find a need to lie about spending $16k?
If you're 49 and lying about this shit then yeah you're too old for excuses.
The other guy's age matters. His age doesn't.
Something about tiny stringed instruments
