i agree. it's just the consistent and repetitive use of em-dashes that does it for me. i've been known to use an em-dash from time to time — as here — but i also mix it up with parentheses, semicolons, or, you know, just ending the fucking sentence and starting a new one, lol
I’m an overuser of the em dash—so much so that I have to go back over my text sometimes and decide where I can replace some with a semicolon or a period. What I noticed here is that sometimes he uses spaces before and after and sometimes he doesn’t. Chicago Manual of Style and MLA say not to use them, but ChatGPT seems to fairly consistently. So to me it reads like he wrote parts himself and used ChatGPT for others, because a person would be unlikely to switch between the two styles multiple times when writing.
True, but notice the way that they don’t even use it properly. Nearly every use could be cut out or replaced with a colon, semi-colon, or comma depending.
Think "environmentally-conscious steampunk". Basically, a world where everything is powered by sustainable energy, and harmony with nature is a major factor.
Kills me to see the proliferation of AI as it does to us all, but goddamn do I hate the automatic association of em dashes with AI too. Fuck, I remember how excited I was when I realized you could use them in iOS all those years ago. Ah well.
Edit: didn’t see other comments before now, and damned didn’t expect to see the same sentiment!
If you want to join the em dash rights movement, it's Alt+0151 on the Windows numpad, Opt + – on Mac, and it's usually merely a long press away behind the short dash aka hyphen on your touch-enabled devices.
If you want to be extra proper, you can use Alt+0150 for the en dash that you use for intervals (e. g. 1939–1945) and can even use as a minus in a pinch, although that's technically a separate Unicode symbol.
There were two responses and a one minute copypaste & censor job. My first was a comment on the pitch itself, the second was a response to him lying and tagging me in some bullshit, after the admins had obviously already gone through his reports. Yeah I feel his Karenesque "Teacher! Teacher! Per the handbook!" reaction is worse than calling him out and posting it tbh.
it's not just the use of em dash in itself. it's how it's used. notice under "scope and workflow", it uses em dashes instead of hyphens? "2—3 pages"? even someone who regularly uses em dashes (especially such a person, lol) wouldn't make that mistake
AI bullshit aside, never trust anyone who says 'I want YOU to bring MY idea to life' is going about the project completely wrong
If you have an idea you're passionate about, great, but not everybody is going to agree. Even the greatest stories told had input from other people who had different ideas of how it should go, for better or worse. Other voices in the room are what helped make 'A New Hope' into the masterpiece it is, and even Tolkien consulted with his friend CS Lewis while writing the 'Lord Of The Rings' trilogy
If you start involving other people, they're going to have their own ideas of what works and what doesn't. If you're a brilliant auteur genius like Stanley Kubrick, sure, you get to play dictator and say 'NO! ONLY MY IDEAS MATTER!', but even Kubrick wasn't always right about that. If you're advertising to hire an artist to 'bring MY vision to life', you're broadcasting to the entire world 'I'm an impossible-to-please tyrant who will expect the world from the people under me and will refuse to listen to anyone who tries to find an alternative method that might work better'
Unpopular opinion: I hate the em dash. It gives way to lazy writing. Anything you can convey using it, you could’ve done so without it if you forced your brain to make a sentence with more complex structure.

This is AI as hell, but the noble em dash has a long a stories history and isn't an immediate tell
True but when combined with the emojis at the end of everything it raises suspicion.
Oh yeah. This guy absolutely used AI. But I write and use the Em. The em dash is my buddy.

so apparently im an AI 🥀
Your comment history has no signs of being an AI, though. What makes you think anything here applies to you?
i use emojis ALOT when typing lmao
I use it all the time.... fuck my assholes - am I a bot?!?!?!
Need more emoji 🤩 — and random bold for emphasis. 👏🏻
Also, plural assholes?
It was the bold for emphasis that was the nail in the coffin imo.
And the dot point list. Without even reading the text the shape of it screams AI
It wasn't just A — it was B.
Why it matters:
Beep boop my clanker brother. I guess we're bots now
Sorry you had to find out this way
Na, see you're using the hyphen (-), it's the em dash (—) that you should be worried about.
I use them frequently in casual communication. I guess now I know the truth. Beep boop 🤖
Holy shit, BORAT?!
The ellipsis is evidence that your perhaps either Gen x or elder Millennial
I've been asked before if I used AI to write things because I used em dashes. No, I'm just a trained writer :(
True, but notice the way that they don’t even use it properly. Nearly every use could be cut out or replaced with a colon, semi-colon, or comma depending.
No, yeah. This dude is 100% botted up. I just hate seeing the sweeping Em Dash =AI is all
Huge news for the unemployed.
Because its a job listing 🙂
Probably gonna try to get free work and bail. It's their only post in the group and they have a fake last name.
How do you know it's fake?
Because it's literally not a surname.
The whiny "hello (wave emoji)" post was on an unrelated post by the group admins because apparently their report was taking too long idk.
Using AI for a Solarpunk story is crazy
Wtf is Solarpunk?
Think "environmentally-conscious steampunk". Basically, a world where everything is powered by sustainable energy, and harmony with nature is a major factor.
tl;dr: sci-fi hippies
It's when the sun wears leather

The irony of the premise of his "space opera" Where ai has taken over whilst using ai.
You can pry the em dash from my cold dead hands.

Emoji spam + emdashes everywhere makes this extremely AI looking.
Why would you want to pretend you wrote that trash?
This story also sucks
Maybe I'm stupid but I don't understand this post.
First 2 images are a job posting. Who gives a shit if that is helped with AI.
And the guy never throws a fit either.
I would consider going to an admin's unrelated post after their report went ignored to try and tattle again, then tagging me as throwing a fit.
That's worse than you responding to him multiple times and then making a reddit post about it?

Again why don't you step back and see who is being a Karen here?
You whined about his post. Whined about his response. Whined by created a Reddit post. Now you continue to cry about it all.

The em dash and the ... is dead giveaway
Reminds me of countless LinkedinLunatics posts
