• This is good but they also need to fight homegrown bills like KOSA and the section 230 repeal bill.

  • Thank you, God. A light in the middle of a shitstorm. Let's fight to make this move forward. 🙏

  • Just because the EU doesn't want to allow dissent in its union and allow American imperialism through social media, doesn't mean it's affecting America's own free speech. Those tech companies can choose not operate in the EU & lose out on billions of profit.

are the American imperialists in the room with us right now?

  • To be honest, I wish the EU would go even harder on the US social media giants, or better yet, completely ban or fine them for every misleading propaganda post on their platforms.

I use X solely to follow the Ukraine war, nothing else, so my entire "For You" feed was about Ukraine. But after Musk and some US politicians started criticizing the EU and suggesting it should be dismantled, my entire "For You" section turned into an anti-EU propaganda feed full of fake stories, misinformation, and biased posts, even though I don’t follow or search for any of that.
It’s clear that Musk changed the algorithms on X to target Europeans with anti-EU propaganda, and as a result, X should be heavily fined or, even better, completely banned from Europe.

Better to create their own tech ecosystem like China. Replicate the same across each continent. The less concentrated power is, the greater the need for cooperation & the lower the chance of misuse as we've seen in the 21st century.

X is a cesspool and should frankly be shut down. You can get better, more objective and cleaner information in lots of places, including reddit and of course mainstream media, as long as you stay aware of the tendency of algorithms to feed you more of the same and therefore reinforce what you're looking for rather than neutral information.

Genuinely depends on the topic being discussed. Reddit is way better for stuff like Ukraine, but is bogged down by constant echo chamber censorship by mods who never leave their basements for other topics that can't even be discussed without getting banned

  • sad to see so many redditors siding with authoritarian censors like EU, Russia, China, UK just because they also hate Big Tech firms. you know you can be against both?

  • MAGA propaganda. Do they even know what censorship is anymore? Censorship is locking people out of press conferences because they refuse to parrot official material. Censorship is insulting journalists who are asking legitimate questions. Censorship is not: imposing content responsibility/moderation. I would like to see a concrete example that corresponds to the actual definition of censorship, written in EU legislation like the DSA. Bring it on.

  • People need to read the article. This is specifically to protect US-based social media companies from fines. Anyone cheering this is a fool or a bot.

  • Only our over lords are allowed to censor and monitor us

  • “Hey! We’re the ones who get to censor our people! Not them!”

  • Considering the current US government's very hostile attitude to free speech this is extremely ironic. However if it can put pressure on the EU and UK to back down on Orwellian legislation like Chat control and the online safety bill then I'll take it.
