China is also where they developed anti-infrared coating for glasses. I wear them, and it’s impossible to use faceID or similar technology. Combine with a medical mask and a hat or hood, and identification becomes more challenging.

Of course, the AI stride detection algorithms could still be used, but I’ll just drop stones in one shoe. 🤣

I haven’t, but I just looked it up and it’s now at the top of my list. I’ll get back to you when I’m done. 😁

Author? Is it a good book?

Cory Doctorow. The man who coined the word enshittification. Book is good! Meant for young adults but touches on very relevant themes around privacy and activism against totalitarianism

    George Orwell, highly recommended

Edit: I’m incorrect, I mistook it for “1984”

Have you tried infrared coated glasses with Face ID? Like to unlock your phone? Found some that will actually stop it?

Correct. The Zenni ID block noted in another comment is what I use, and they prevent faceID and biometric unlock on an android device as well.

    Thankyou!

Every countermeasure has value; they don't need to be perfect to be useful. Except with certain Redditors (not you or anyone here, obviously).

Zenni optical sells glasses and sunglases with anti IR coating

They definitely work cause some of the reviews are people complaining it breaks their face login on their phones lol

I got a pair with blue light blocking with the IR blocking, and are transitiong lenses with the cheapest frames, total was like $70 i think

Same here. Not sure how to test them though.

You'd think it would be relevant to also acknowledge the technologically enabled human rights abuses in other countries too including the United States. The focus purely on China makes this article appear like a propaganda piece.

Surely they could mention things like American tech companies like Microsoft operating data centres in Ireland containing IDF targeting data and the millions of recorded Palestinian phone calls intercepted by Israeli intelligence.

The AP did that exact thing in the exact series this photo essay is part of: https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-ai-weapons-430f6f15aab420806163558732726ad9
