For context: I am 35+2 with my first baby. I have severe idiopathic polyhydramnios and am growing a big baby girl (she’s almost 8lbs, measuring >99%ile, my fundal height is measuring 50+ weeks).
Because of the polyhydramnios, I’ve had a TON of extra monitoring (NSTs, BPPs and scans at least once a week, usually twice a week). I am being followed by my regular OB team (joint practice) and perinatologists at my hospital’s MFM department. I am being induced at 38w.
This little girl has always been a super active baby but this week she has felt different. Movements feel less pronounced, different, and much less frequent. She passed her last NST/BPP at MFM 3 days ago and looked good on the ultrasound. I got worried and went to L&D yesterday for extra monitoring which she passed as well, although they had to give me a popsicle to encourage her to move. Her heart rate was a little high (briefly at 167) but settled back down into a normal range. But I’m still worried about the change in movement.
Has anyone been through anything similar and requested extra testing? I know it’s a myth that babies “run out of room” late in pregnancy but maybe it’s a change in positioning. Or maybe (probably) I’m just being paranoid because this is a high risk pregnancy.
Would appreciate any thoughts from anyone who has experienced similar 🫶

Always go back in if you are worried. You have high risk factors. Explain to them exactly how you stated it here- the running out of room is a myth.
Don’t let them convince you your intuition is wrong. If you feel like something is off, continue to seek treatment.
You’re an amazing mom. Wishing you the best.
I don’t have experience with this but am also a bit of an anxious person. It’s so much better to be paranoid and go to L&D than convince yourself you’re overthinking it! So great you listened to your gut and got checked out. Please continue to do so!
Go get checked! There’s no such thing as being paranoid with a pregnancy or a baby, there’s just safe. I’d rather go every day than miss anything.
(Not high risk but I did have complications at the end)
Definitely go back in. I had this and it can also make monitoring harder because there is soooo much fluid. Every L&D nurse has always said we’d rather you come in than ignore it.
You’re so close to the finish line! Hang in there.
Pregnant with my first so no experience but I would 100% trust your instinct on this.
How is it a myth that babies run out of room late pregnancy? Maybe less the case for you with the extra fluid, but in general that’s true
My understanding is that the number and frequency of movements should remain the same, but that they may not be as large because the baby has less room to move.
Always go for the monitoring if you feel concerned. That being said, with how high your fluid is, it’s possible that she’s got a bit too much room and is hard to feel sometimes. I would definitely recommend laying down on your side during her active time of day and counting kicks. You should be able to count 10 in 2 hours. If not, call the doctor.
