• Ha! That tracks. The French are Electronic-crazy. It might be the single most popular genre of music there

  • Justice was one of the best concerts I went to this year.

Love me some French electronic music

I saw Justice at Coachella in 2012, I had never heard of them and had no real interest in seeing their set, but because my friends insisted, I went along with them so we didn't have to split up.

It was probably the fact that I went in with 0 expectations, but it was absolutely the best concert I saw at the festival, maybe the best show I've ever seen in my life.

  • me after listening to "Alive 2007"

Greatest live electronic album made. And I say that as someone who adores Alive 97 and Minimum-Maximum.

  • And so it should…

  • okay but people in this thread need to hear Oxygène

    Jean-Michel Jarre?

I mean sure but check out Larry Fast's Synergy before that. Just cuz it's a few years earlier.

And Alan Parsons Project before that.

Cluster, and Cluster and Eno, and Eno around the same time as that.

I mean yes, but that is not the point I was making lol. The majority of the article is about Jarre (which I think is reasonable if somewhat old fashioned) whereas the comments mostly stress "this erasure / that erasure." Ofc you can go back to Eno, Larry Fast, Harmonia, Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, Steve Reich, Gershon Kingsley (who was a direct inspiration for Jarre) etc. The point is Oxygène is still a touchstone in electronic music and a "best-seller" that (I assume) most popheads haven't heard if they (or their parents) were not curious about electronic music history or French. And I do think it is an album worthy of the accolades so

    Zoolook is excellent as well!

  • The Kavinsky erasure also SebastiAn

M83, Mr. Oizo, Gesaffelstein, Modjo, Stardust, Étienne de Crécy, Alex Gopher, DJ Falcon, Alan Braxe, Fred Falke, Bob Sinclair, DJ Snake, L'Impératrice, Madeon, Myd, Martin Solveig, Surkin, DJ Mehdi, The Hacker, Brodinski, Vitalic, Uffie, Busy P, Daniel Bangalter (know as Daniel Vangarde), Sébastien Tellier, Cedric Gervais, Le Knight Club, Together, Jackson and His Computerband, Carpenter Brut, Rahim Redcar (Christine and the Queens), Demon, Danger, Mac Stanton, Soul Machine, Space Cowboy, and Phoenix's early stuff was house oh and a little guy called David Guetta.

That is quite the cultural impact.

Perturbator too similar to carpenter brut

I'm just gonna go ahead and save this comment for later

You can add : Hypnolove, Rinocerose, Wax tailor, Air, Gotan project, Yuksek, Chinese man, Kojak, Pepe Bradock, Cassius, Martin Solveig, Breakbot, Polo & Pan

His one good song is only so great because he got one of the daft punk guys to produce it

  • M83 fans remain winning

No but seriously this is a long time coming. France has an electronic scene as big and important as Germanys, with a super distinct style and form. There’s a whole genre called French Touch for a reason. Glad to see France’s electronic scene getting its flowers

  • Madeon changed my life 100% His music is so uplifting and speaks to my soul. My favorite EDM Act all time. Thank you France

  • They produce some electronic musicians that I love and enjoy, like Madeon, Allure, L'imperatrice, Air, Daft Punk, etc.

  • US needs to do this with disco

  • Thanks OP for sending me down the following rabbit hole... Maurice Martenot invented an electronic keyboard in 1928 called the 'Ondes Martenot'
