One of the major highlights of “Heated Rivalry” has been the music! Not only the Challengers-esque score from Peter Peter (who is also Canadian), but the soundtrack that not only platformed Russian queer hit “All the Things She Said”, but some great Canadian music, including Feist and Wolf Parade!

I encourage folks to check out the official Spotify playlist if they get a chance, and just check out Heated Rivalry if you haven’t already. As a Canadian, I am so proud of CanCon right now!

  • If you know that the brains behind this show was the co-creator and main director of Letterkenny, then the caliber of the needle drops is no surprise

I don't think I've done more of a double take and had as much of a holy shit moment watching TV shows as when Rêve walked into the photostudio room in S2 of Shoresy

That and the cameo photo of Charlotte Cardin & JJ Frankie JJ in the pilot. Jacob and Jared really do just get it

    That's a Texas sized 10-4 good buddy

Pitter patter, let’s get at ‘er

    Set the fucking tone!

that's what I appreciates about it

  • the transition from Tatu's all the things she said to the guy's plaintive cover needs to be stored in the canadian version of the smithsonian archive forever

  • Shoutout to “mangetout” by Wet Leg, and their entire discography! Obsessed since I heard this song in episode 2.

Saw Wet Leg earlier this year when they performed in Vancouver, totally worth it.

Omg yes! I discovered them through the show, great band

  • Ah shit well I guess I have to watch the gay hockey show hub

    You really do.

I was deep into Yuri on Ice so like……it calls to something very primal. Doubly so because I wrote a lot of Yuri on ice songfic

  • The children better stream the music of miss Feist.

  • I really love the soundtrack of the show, this article couldnt have come at a better time

  • All The Things She Said was sung by two Russian straight women who were marketed as gay to queerbait and exploit. One of the singers has since revealed herself as homophobic

It’s a bit ironic to lead with that song

Funnily enough, the homophobic one is herself bisexual. She specifically thinks that gay men are failing masculinity, while gay women are fine.

It’s apparently a pretty common attitude in Russia, probably because straight men think lesbians are hot.

No, that’s the same attitude to here in America. It’s because being close to manliness is considered fine, while being closer to femininity is seen as bad and degrading. Why would you want to make yourself more like a woman? (Ie willingly bending over and submitting yourself to a man as a man). Women are inferior. You are purposely making yourself inferior and putting yourself in a position women belong (submission).

Like all things just good old fashioned misogyny. Present in every culture.

Oh for sure, it’s the same dynamic. My understanding is just that it’s a fair bit more pronounced in Russia.

The song is all over the charts, and it is still a queer anthem, especially for the Russian/slavic queer community (they were originally arrested for promoting homosexuality back when) and is being played everywhere right now….

  • At least one of Tegan and Sara, Stars, The New Pornographers, Metric, or Broken Social Scene better show up in the finale.

Tbh I'm mildly irritated by the tAtu inclusion when Tegan and Sara, who are vocally queer Canadians, are right there. Heartthrob was pop perfection and that scene would have worked with Goodbye, Goodbye. Or maybe an earlier track like Back In Your Head for a harder edge?

Desite the tAtu controversy, All the Things She Said lyrically fit perfect with the scene. There’s nothing in T&A discography that would work just as good in that scene, let alone better.

I have hopes that Teagan and Sara will show up. I don’t know where “Closer” will fit, but it’s such an anthem I need it in there haha

"Boyfriend" from Love You to Death is also perfect for Hunter and Kip:

You call me up, like you want your best friend

You turn me on, like you want your boyfriend

But I don't wanna be your secret anymore

"Where Does the Good Go?" is also a "TV show season finale track" if ever there was one, unless it's a happy ending:

It's love that leaves and breaks the seal of always thinking you would be real happy and healthy, strong and calm. Where does the good go? Where does the good go?

Don't think New Pornographers are gonna show up, what with their controversy. Same with Arcade Fire, which honestly should be there.

The controversy with the New Pornographers makes no sense to knock them down like that

    • it's a random guy who didn't play in any of their best known records
    • he wasn't a major creative colaborator in the band like Win Butler is
    • he got booted off as soon as his crimes were known

I don't personally like the reaction either and I'm still a fan of them, unlike Arcade Fire.

Damn, I missed that RE the New Pornographers, did know about Arcade Fire though.

  • If Broken Social Scene does not end up used in the series I will riot, my gay Canadian icons

Regardless very happy at some of these songs, especially Wolf Parade!!

  • i'm glad somebody else clocked that the score is challengers from Temu lol
