FNL was a show I never thought I would love and yet it’s one of my top 10 shows of all time. I might actually watch this one especially since both of these men have some of the more interesting careers in
Hollywood
It’s about football in the same way Rocky is about boxing. It’s the lens in which the story is told, but you don’t need to know anything whatsoever about football to watch.
It should have been one featuring Michael A. Jordan and Michael B. Jordan, but they went ahead and snubbed A. completely despite his performance in Sinners having been as great as B.'s
Yeah, it's really unfortunately that so much focus has been on Michael B. Jordan's performance in Sinners while I personally thought Michael A. Jordan was actually better in my eyes.
My husband and I are watching Better Call Saul for the first time— and rewatching BB… Jesse Plemons is SO GOOD as Todd and I’ve learned some of the scenes that stand out are improvised by him!
I was just watching him break down his iconic roles, and for Todd he said the writers were terrified of him and he didn’t understand why. He was just playing him kind of innocent and happy to be there, because he didn’t know the trajectory of Todd’s storyline and it freaked people out.
The one I just found out is when Todd has Jesse in the trunk and a body. He’s singing this song (Sharing the Night Together) all monotone (Jesse picked the song) and a semi passes him. Todd has a completely blank face, signals for the trucker to honk and the trucker completely ignores him. Todd doesn’t even respond, just keeps singing with a corpse and poor Jesse in the back. Aaron Paul described the scene in an interview. Here it is if you’d like to see:
Man, this is such a good demonstration of a fully-realized character. Todd is so childlike in his demeanor even while being a total psychopath, it makes complete sense he would signal for the truck to honk with a dead body and a prisoner in his trunk.
Props to both Plemons and Vince Gilligan, as well as the casting director. This is when impeccable writing and impeccable acting collide.
Yes! It really makes me side eye method acting tactics when someone like Jesse Plemons adds something so nuanced but 100% true to the character naturally. I really think he’ll win an Oscar some day.
Another scene I can’t verify for sure wasn’t scripted, but has been rumored for years he improved is the train heist in BB with the kid. The kid sees them, waves, and Todd waves back right away (the supposed improved part). It’s such an instant childlike reaction right before he shoots him. I just believe it and give Jesse credit lol.
As an actor myself I absolutely hate "method" acting lol. IMO it's nothing more than an exercise in ego.
I believe that anecdote too. He totally disappears into his characters, it's truly incredible to watch. BB had some of the best individual performances of this century. Sometimes I forgot I was watching actors, which is a rare gift.
Have you watched Better Call Saul? If not, I recommend it. We are on season 3. It’s really amazing all around, too. I don’t know if I agree it’s better, but I guess we haven’t finished it yet so there’s time.
I love all types of film and shows. One that really sticks out where you forget you’re watching people acting is Succession. It’s completely batshit and I can’t relate to that world, but you get lost in the portrayals.

Like, Jesse Plemons was great in BB, but I never would’ve thought he’d become one of those actors that just always elevates everything he’s in. Ever seen him turn in a bad performance. Quite the opposite, he always is a highlight.
I'm so irritated that I find Michael B. Jordan so attractive. He just always comes off as such a genuinely nice guy. But defending Jonathan Majors isn't normal. No good man or woman would do it but he does. It's the stupidest casual crush I have.
Compared to the other photos sets from this series, yeah.. they don’t really look like they are interacting together but more like they are just in the same room doing their own thing.. which feels wrong for Actors on Actors. Like I’m not feeling any chemistry and it makes me uninterested in the interview.
they probably had like 2-3 minutes to shoot the pictures before/after a sit down interview with a set up that has to work for multiple other interviews.

Omg I loved coach taylor!!!!
Eric and Tami had the BEST relationship of the show. I loved them so much.
Me too I loved them both equally. So good
Coach and Mrs. Coach!
That man was goals.
Plemon is pulling a William H Macy in these photos.
With his new hair he should play a small tow sherif in a western
How could that possibly be profitable for frito lay
I'm generally not a fan of longer cuts on men, but damn does it work for him.
Also an exceptional mustache for a blond man (no offense blond dudes - it just seems like y'all did not hit the facial hair lottery).
I was thinking the same thing
The FNL reunion we never knew we needed.
I was hoping they’d be tossing a football around in the photo shoot 😔
I totally forgot they were in that together! Loved that show
Is Plemon the modern day of Buscemi? I like both; hopefully to see them in the same movie one day
I could see them in an iteration of a buddy cop a-la Nice Guys. Or something more serious.
This is the only Variety's Actors that I was waiting.

*screaming at all of my friends* "it's not really about football! i promise! you will love it!"
It’s about football in the same way Rocky is about boxing. It’s the lens in which the story is told, but you don’t need to know anything whatsoever about football to watch.
Exactly!! But even the football parts are actually really great (I also love football). It’s just a show with incredible heart.
It did pretty well for being a Show based on a movie based on a book based on real events.
Yeah this is prompting me to do my biannual rewatch
You should check out the movie of the same name that the show was based on and also made by Peter Berg.
LANCE
LMAOOOOOO
I am not a fan honestly.
It should have been one featuring Michael A. Jordan and Michael B. Jordan, but they went ahead and snubbed A. completely despite his performance in Sinners having been as great as B.'s

i’m horrible at reading tone, is this a joke because he played twins 😭
Indeed it is
Yes😭😭
yes hahahaha
I had this same take when they didn’t have LindsAy Lohan interviewing LindsBy Lohan after The Parent Trap but I was downvoted into oblivion 🙄
Two of the best actors working
My husband and I are watching Better Call Saul for the first time— and rewatching BB… Jesse Plemons is SO GOOD as Todd and I’ve learned some of the scenes that stand out are improvised by him!
He’s so good at Todd that when I look at him, the first feeling is hatred (even though he’s amazing, but Todd is the worseeeee)
I was just watching him break down his iconic roles, and for Todd he said the writers were terrified of him and he didn’t understand why. He was just playing him kind of innocent and happy to be there, because he didn’t know the trajectory of Todd’s storyline and it freaked people out.
*worsttttt
His incredibly short stint in Civil War is insanely good. The standout performance of the whole movie.
Yes! And being a last minute replacement and essentially doing it as a favor to his wife.
Wow really, which scenes?

Technically from the movie.

Succession is one of the best dramas of the century. I still think about Shiv and Tom's biodynamic screw cap wine and giggle

That's amazing I had no idea

He was even amazing in Game Night. Dude is a force.
Game Night is so underrated
Top tier character actor
I love Michael in Sinners and The Wire, but Jesse is an insanely talented actor. He's incredible in every role and is leagues ahead of Michael.
Easily two of the best performances of the year between Sinners and Bugonia!
Yo D! I found Wallace. Didn't need String.
💔💔
Friday Night Lights lives on forever. Look at how our guys have grown.

Watched it, so much aura and chemistry,
I'm so irritated that I find Michael B. Jordan so attractive. He just always comes off as such a genuinely nice guy. But defending Jonathan Majors isn't normal. No good man or woman would do it but he does. It's the stupidest casual crush I have.
Jesse Plemons looking like a snack lately, I hope he never loses the hair
Lol. I wonder what he would look like with darker eyebrows? I think thats what throws me off.

MBJ 4ever & always
MBJ is one of the most beautiful men alive. PERIOD. Now that picture 4 made me go "Damn good job Kirsten"
How can that possibly be profitable for frito-lay
Anyone else find these just... bad pictures? Lol. Not flattering or particularly interesting...
Maybe im too much a critic, but these seem like a school art project, for elementary school lol
I actually really like them. They feel very natural and fun
I like picture 2.
For real. The actor is not even on the other actor as titled.
Compared to the other photos sets from this series, yeah.. they don’t really look like they are interacting together but more like they are just in the same room doing their own thing.. which feels wrong for Actors on Actors. Like I’m not feeling any chemistry and it makes me uninterested in the interview.
These guys worked together in a very popular 2000s teen drama show. They definitely have chemistry
I’m not saying they don’t, I’m saying the photos aren’t showing it.
They're all slightly out of focus and it's driving me crazy lol
they probably had like 2-3 minutes to shoot the pictures before/after a sit down interview with a set up that has to work for multiple other interviews.
Michael B. Jordan and Jesse P. Lemons
I had to scroll too far down to see this 😂
Jesse looks like Julia Stiles with a dude Snapchat filter
Jesse as Taylor Hawkins
Shame Jordan defends an abuser which people weirdly overlook constantly for some reason
Why do those portraits go so hard tho?
Here’s to long nights living large in Texas
🔥
They both gave incredible performances.
Plemons aging like fine meth ❤️
Are we gonna ask Jordan about his continued support of a known abuser?
Chill
Michael B Jordan supported an abuser (Jonathan Majors)
And he's adored on here for that.🤮
🤦♂️
Also the "Chill" comment right above yours.
popculturechat gonna popculturechat.
Mustaches have really pulled one of the biggest reputation turn arounds I’ve ever seen
oh yes.........
Damn ozempic got my man JP
Idk he fluctuates weight a lot
Jesse looks like Wayne Wayne Wayne Jr from Happy, Texas 🤣

I like them both equally
Waaaait these are my fave pics of the ones I’ve seen for this year
HOTTTTT
Michael B looks scared of Plemmons alpha actor energy.
They aren't even close to the same caliber
That why Michael looks so afraid. There’s real talent in the room.
Yeah for real
