They can’t deport a US citizen, they’re kidnapping and trafficking US citizens based on their race. The fuck is the point of following laws anymore if the government is just going to do whatever they want
I know. Why do we whitewash the verbiage here.
ICE cannot deport a US citizen. Full stop.
This is kidnapping and human trafficking and should be investigated as such.
I think you probably could except for one insane fact, which is that a ton of these people are being immediately imprisoned in the destination nation. With the renewal of the Cecot thing due to the 60 minutes thing, I want to renew my question of why supposed deportees are being transfered directly to prison
Not likely because these Gestapo jerks likely would have confiscated her passport and her ID, if she had it on her. This is the thing they do. They just say the passport or ID is fake and then toss it, plus take any phones and valuables they might have on their person. Those items never get returned.
I saw an interview with an immigration lawyer who talked about this happening, even when she was able to get her clients released, their personal items “disappear” while the clients are in custody.
This was one of Bari Weiss fake reasons for trying to censor the story about the GOP/MAGA/ICE kidnapping people to the El Salvador black site torture facility.
She said the report called the victims “migrants” when they should have been referred to as “deportees”.
The two commenters above you are correcting the semantics because it’s important to do so. We need to remember, as US citizens, the government cannot deport us. We do not have any laws that make it legal to deport a natural born or naturalized citizen per the 14th amendment.
It’s matters in the same way that it matters when people correct headlines stating teachers getting in trouble for having affairs with students when the real problem is the statutory rape of the student. Media writers have agendas in how they write, but we need to be more diligent in our comprehension.
Then the more inflammatory headline should be better right? Trump calling them out should also be profitable. Oh, because our government is completely corrupt they don't dare. That seem to be the real issue then.
Damn "media writers" really is accurate now, isn't it? Used to be we had actual journalist who were professional, diligent, and reported the hard stories. The used to pride themselves as being the 4th Estate. The watchdogs on government activity, the most important check on government overreach and abuse who served the public good.
Look how far we, as a country, have fallen. It's been all about getting a click, getting that juicy advertisement revenue. Spread the sensationalist headlines, just turn all of the news into a tabloid and it'll sell better than boring old news.
I remember being taught about Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein and how critical their reporting on Watergate was, now the "government" is trying to destroy education as quickly as possible.
It is incredibly important to accurately report on the truth and cold, hard facts. There are no laws that make it legal to remove a citizen of this country from this country. Yet, we find ourselves in a time when citizens have already been removed from this country.
Where is the mass outcry, where are today's Woodward and Bernstein?
Unfortunately, it is an accurate description of where our media is now. I'm not even that old (mid 30s). I feel like this is my "old man yelling at clouds" moment lol
You’re right and I agree with what you said. I just want to lean harder into it. It doesn’t even make sense linguistically to talk about deporting somebody that was never imported. Not to mention deportation implies a legal process that isn’t happening with these extraordinary renditions. But to “deport” someone who was born here just doesn’t make any sense to begin with.
They can't. Like they said it's not deporting, it is literally impossible to deport a citizen from their own country. It's kidnapping and human trafficking, or if it was a different country maybe exile.
No, they literally can't. It's impossible. What they are doing is not deportation, and letting them pretend that it is is letting them win half the battle.
It’s not that they can’t deport US citizens because it’s illegal. It’s that they can’t deport US citizens because it’s not deportation when it’s a US citizen.
I would say the proper word is "exile", but that implies just ejecting them. Specifically taking them to another nation's prison facility is trafficking.
They can’t DEPOT you, they can KIDNAP and traffic you.
They can’t enter private property without a warrant, but they CAN break and enter.
It’s important to call out the language to acknowledge the unlawfulness. Media washes these statements by calling the actions by their legal names. It’s important to call it what it is.
This discussion is about the literal meaning of the word "deport" not about who is allowed to do what.
If the US government CLAIMS to "deport" a US citizen, the sentence doesn't even make sense. The only way they it makes sense is if they were "deporting" to the US.
The only accurate way to describe it linguistically is "forced relocation against her will" or "trafficking"
The irony is that this authoritarian regime NEEDS laws in order to implement and enforce their agenda. They couldn't get far without welding laws to get their way, yet they ignore the ones that get IN their way.
Well, they are for now. Coming soon to a ‘politically undesirable’ US citizen next, regardless of skin color.
If only there was some previous horrendous historical event that could serve as a dire warning for us from our past…
Which is the real disingenuous part of how it's being framed. "Whose Lawyer Insists" makes it sound like there's just two sides making claims, when they're actually exiling citizens.
Thats factually correct, it's definitionally impossible to deport a US citizen. When they send a US citizen to a foreign country they have kidnapped, human trafficked, and illegally exiled them.
I saw a video a couple months ago where a white man with a Hispanic name got pulled over, and when the cops tried to run his info, there was nothing there and it was this whole thing. It seems like they are deleting records of anyone with a Hispanic name.
They're not even deporting most of the non-citizens. They're trafficking them to countries they have no affiliation with and/or locking them up in inhumane concentration camps.
Exactly...like we forgot our federal government's other two mass deportation/exile (because you can't deport a born citizen who never "ported") movements targeting Mexican-American citizens and Mexican legal residents in the last century.
How many Americans ever learned about the US government's Mexican Repatriation (1920s-30s) and Operation Wetback (1950s) efforts?
Or how they passed the Renunciation Act of 1944 and then coerced American-born citizens of Japanese descent to give up their citizenship under duress to be deported to Japan, a country they had no citizenship of, most of them had never been to, and for many didn’t know the language?
Some did it willingly after what the US government did to them in the camps, but not all.
Thank you for that as I wasn’t aware of it. I only know of it because it happened to people and family I know personally, so I researched it. Going to start it now.
they'd have been all for it. Look what they did to minorities back them. It included forced sterilization, intentionally exposing them to radiation etc.
If only. The American model of capitalism is to exploit the worker. At roughly 11 million undocumented workers there will never be equality in America. It’s effectively our caste system. These workers can’t demand to be treated humanely if there’s a govt ready to treat them worse.
Performative political violence to make a population more easily exploited.
Yes. Straight-up. But no one will do shit until it happens publicly to a celebrity and enough people rage about it on here or enough of their family members. We’ve devolved for sure
Everyone in this country is running around yammering about their fucking rights. "I have a right, you have no right, we have a right."
Folks I hate to spoil your fun, but... there's no such thing as rights.
Now, if you think you do have rights, I have one last assignment for ya. Next time you're at the computer get on the Internet, go to Wikipedia. When you get to Wikipedia, in the search field for Wikipedia, i want to type in, "Japanese-Americans 1942" and you'll find out all about your precious fucking rights.
110,000 Japanese-American citizens, in good standing, law abiding people, who were thrown into internment camps simply because their parents were born in the wrong country. That's all they did wrong. They had no right to a lawyer, no right to a fair trial, no right to a jury of their peers, no right to due process of any kind. The only right they had was...right this way! Into the internment camps.
Just when these American citizens needed their rights the most...their government took them away. and rights aren't rights if someone can take em away. They're priveledges. That's all we've ever had in this country is a bill of TEMPORARY priviledges; and if you read the news, even badly, you know the list get's shorter, and shorter, and shorter.
Nah, those are rights. The Trump administration is just pretending they are not. That’s an important difference. They are doing things that are illegitimate and illegal. They did not take those rights away, because they cannot. They are violating those rights, which, in turn, makes their actions illegitimate and resistance against them legitimate.
Rights only belong to child rapist baby murderer presidents.
Also, apparently she’s been deported already. If Trump can just have ICE disappear you before the courts can even say anything we definitely don’t have rights.
More specifically, if they think illegal residents don't have rights and you, a citizen, can be detained under suspicion of being an illegal citizen, then you citizenship does carry/confer any rights either.
The government ignored a court order and deported a U.S.-born citizen:
Her family has now been told she has been deported, despite U.S. District Judge Brendan Hurson ruling Thursday that she could not be deported pending a hearing. Perez and colleague Victoria Slatten said they had not been able to confirm Diaz Morales' whereabouts.
And this is why it is so important that even undocumented immigrants be given 5th Amendment rights, along with any other rights that protect us from the government and law enforcement. Because all it takes is the government accusing a citizen or legal immigrant of being here illegally, and they will suddenly lose all their rights.
That’s the real truth. White people are still the majority. If white people wanted Kamala Harris as president, she’d have been president. If white people were getting plucked from their cars and homes, then there’d be real action.
South Park called it about 10+ ago on an episode about child tragedies, if the name was white sounding, the media was all over it. If it was latino sounding, it got ignored.
I was keeping myself awake thinking about this last night. I know I can’t sit this out and that I have to do my part to help clean up yet another mess that white people made, but holy shit I am gonna be such a bitch about it.
No shit. It's nearly the entire reason for the original 2nd amendment, freedom from governmental tyrrany and personal protection. This ticks 2/3 boxes really only missing the militia aspect. And good luck trying to start one of those and get your rights trampled on anyway.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
When this regime is out of power we better see heads roll. Everyone involved needs to be held accountable and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
After the partially built ballroom is burned to the ground, the next President needs to assert all Trump administration actions including pardons are null and void since Trump is an insurrectionist and was barred from office. Then re-arrest all and do not release anyone until SCOTUS admits defeat.
I really wish Americans stopped wishing another country or entity would come and bail you out.
The ICC has no standing over the US, and there's literally a lawnon the books that says the US will mass invade the ICC / Hague to rescue any American citizen brought before it.
Fix your own damn problems and stop shitting it up for the rest of us
I hope when/if the power shifts back and all these people air the government (rightfully so), the Dems pass laws to seize the trump administrations personal assets to pay the settlements. Kristi noem should not have a penny to her name or anything to look forward to when or if she ever gets out of her tiny prison cell.
I wish for this too. But I think before that we need to do a deep dive into reigning in executive power and giving it back to the other two branches of government. POTUS should do nothing more than implement congress's laws, full stop.
yea its disgusts me that someone who is engaging in kidnapping, murder, and I'm sure all sorts of embezzlement will probably get away with a very minor penalty, then start an only fans and make it back. They need to give her the OJ treatment.
Isn't this the one where the family produced a Maryland birth certificate, the hospital verified she/mom were patients about the right time, and the attorney also showed childhood immunization records showing she was in the area as a child?
I don't see where she was deported, but it wouldn't surprise me at this point.
“Dulce Consuelo Madrigal Diaz is NOT a U.S. citizen--she is an illegal alien from Mexico,” McLaughlin said in a statement sent to Newsweek Monday afternoon, in a similar message to the one shared on X. “She did NOT provide a valid U.S. birth certificate or any evidence in support of her claim that she is a U.S. citizen.
That's not how it works, you fascist. She doesn't have to prove anything. It is on you and the government to prove she is not a citizen. And what evidence have you provided?
Newsweek asked DHS what evidence it had that Diaz Morales was not a U.S. citizen, and how her citizenship had been checked and verified. The department did not answer these questions directly, only providing the statement above.
We're going to have so much freedom, so much. You’re going to get tired of freedom. You’re going to say, 'Please, please, Mr. President, it’s too much freedom. We can’t take it anymore.'
They were presented with two different pieces of evidence showing she's a citizen, she was transferred to Louisiana against court orders, then she was deported against court orders.
They're breaking all the laws to speed run Fascism and Republicans are fine with it.
Per the article the reasoning is either: Her last name isn’t correct on her paper-work because her parents forgot to put a hyphen, or something happened after she came back from Mexico in 2023
Obviously she's a drug smuggling terrorist that is in MS-13. Probably has tattoos and speaks a foreign language, and came here on one of those narco drug boats, or a Venezuelan oil tanker. /s
The worst part is that bc she went to Mexico in 2023 when she came back she was wrongfully given a deportation order for some reason and bc she had that order in some file system somewhere DHS is using it as all the evidence they need.
They gotta run the deportation quotas up so any and all that can be dragged will be
“She has a family, and she's very beloved, a hard worker, and I've heard nothing but good things about her,” Slatten said. “And I hope that the justice system does its job.”
No, the justice system already failed because she was deported with no due process. Her rights were violated.
Why wouldn't they? DHS has been openly defying court orders for months.
The US Justice system has failed. Period. And the longer the courts continue stopping short of actually arresting them for their blatant violations of court orders, the worse it is going to get.
And once it's clear that the courts will not protect them, people will start trying to defend themselves in other ways. And frankly, at this point DHS and the craven monsters carrying out these crimes deserve it when people start lashing out
Agreed. Honestly I just have no idea how we (US) will recover from the total lawlessness of this administration. Every day I move between hoping my country falls into a full collapse. And then I regret those thoughts, since so many people will be killed or permanently harmed by that happening. I just don’t see how we can come out of this, at least not in my lifetime.
I don't care if she is a loner, hated by all, is lazy at their job, and people talk shit about her. As a US citizen she should in no way shape or form be subjected to this sort behavior from our government and their law enforcement arm.
“Dulce Consuelo Madrigal Diaz is NOT a U.S. citizen--she is an illegal alien from Mexico,” McLaughlin said in a statement sent to Newsweek Monday afternoon, in a similar message to the one shared on X. “She did NOT provide a valid U.S. birth certificate or any evidence in support of her claim that she is a U.S. citizen.
Man, I remember when “innocent until proven guilty” meant something.
I think what’s really going on here is that people like Diaz are being set up for denaturalization cases. The government knows its citizens are. It also knows which ones it wants to revoke citizenship from.
If we're going to deport US citizens, might I make a suggestion? I know of someone who was convicted of 34 felonies who is married to an immigrant, sounds like an ideal candidate for illegal deportation, at least that way we could start with the criminals. 😂
I’m latino, and sadly an insignificant amount of ICE (and Border Patrol) is made up of hispanic people as well. Basically hispanic uncle toms. Shit is infuriating, but people will do anything for money I guess
People who were born off-grid or in cult or hippy compounds where their parents didn’t register their birth can now be deported wherever the government likes. Whiteness is their only shield.
Per the article - she was born in a hospital and had a birth certificate. Birth certificates don't matter unless you carry it around with you, and even then they'll just declare "it's fake" and deport you anyway.
This is why the loss of due process is the death of all our rights.
When someone being detained presents ICE with a birth certificate they rip it up and deport you anyway; the idea being that God has given you to ICE, served up on platter...
This is exactly what DUE PROCESS is for. You don't think her papers are legit? Prove it in court. These assholes need consequences for kidnapping a citizen. Criminally charge anyone involved.
Even if she actually isn't a citizen this is absolutely fucked up for a lack of due process. Not being able to defend yourself, and having big brother just overrule with whatever outcome they want is just pure dystopian nightmare fuel. Hope she gets some compensation and proper assistance. Fuck ICE
ICE is the personal army of Stephen Miller and Trump. They are a domestic terrorist organization, much like the one used in Argentina during the 70s and 80s who disappeared 30,000+ Argentinians, journalists, doctors, and anyone who spoke against the regime.
The heads of ICE need to be arrested asap after Trump is gone.
We as citizens need to be aware of this. This could be any of us if we aren't white. I aint white but I carry my passport on me at all times now to show I'ma citizen. If ICE tries me one day I will resist.
Doesn’t ICE determine who is a citizen or not? Maybe that’s what’s going to happen. ICE tribunal decides and immediately can deport. Since ICE is above normal law…. Hmm. I don’t like where this leads. How does anyone really prove citizenship. Our president is the one who questioned someone’s birth certificate. Why not yours?
She was kidnapped. Getting back without any government agreeing they made a mistake will be hard, as I'm sure she's not currently carrying any American passport or ID. She'll need lawyers, judges and officials inside the US to fight this.
Make sure to blast these to everyone you know who didn't vote because "they couldn't feel Harris was right". They're just as guilty as the Trump swine and make sure they know so.
Oh there was quite a few prominent people on the left who openly said they weren’t voting for Kamala because she would be “no better than Trump” on other issues. Guaranteed that potions of their audience, no matter how small, abstained from voting because of that.
Well, look what purity testing gets you when you will only vote for somebody who agrees 100% with you, and 99% being unacceptable.
Kamala is so far from Trump that anyone who says that is either in the MAGA shuffle, is sexist, or is racist. They don’t see values or actions, but have emotions about popular stories.
A US citizen getting deported should be national news and a way bigger deal than how it’s currently being reported. But since she isn’t white our national news media couldn’t care less.
Can all these detained Americans run for some form of political seat and then claim that ICE is targeting them politically to silence the will of the voters? I only suggest this because that is the tactic of the current sitting President.
I will gladly provide money to support their candidacy filing and their campaign.
Every Latino should be alarmed. Every Indian should be alarmed. This administration is off the rails. If they don't vote for Dems they will be all exiled or deported regardless of anything.
Curious to know how they would know the country of origin if they don't believe the birth certificate. They have to have some kind of proof. But since they likely will avoid the courts they'll simply just boot them out to get some sweet Miller money.
Curious to know what the latino ICE people think as well...
This is like the third time in American history where the government was like, “Yeah, let’s just deport these American born citizens with Mexican ancestry. There are too many of them”
What is with the transferring so fast to other states? Besides the chaos and to create confusion. It’s some purposeful protocol. Double counting for payment purposes? Some wording loophole in the government contracts for headcount payments?
My bet is on DHS is lying...And when its proven...All who were involved in the detaining and arrest of this U.S. citizen need to be cataloged and recorded for later prosecution under lady liberty and the people. The time will come...
It’s a confusing article but this part seems suspicious or maybe just wrong:
“The attorneys shared redacted copies of the birth certificate and immunization records with Newsweek, but full documents could not be released due to pending litigation.“
No one can stop you from releasing a copy of your daughter’s birth certificate. You can plaster it all over the internet if you want.
This is why republicans want to end birthright cititzenship. They want to just grab brown people and remove them from the country. Doesn't matter if they're a US citizen or not to them. The US is headed towards full stop Nazi 2.0.
‘Just carry your immigration papers’
- I was born here!
‘Prove it’
There were witnesses to the birth, per the birth certificate I certainly don’t carry with me everywhere I go…
‘Falsifying documents, too, eh?’
Like, this does not end at a ‘sensible’ point in this line of questioning, when the government openly flaunts the idea that non-citizens don’t have any rights, and that they can change what makes people citizens, and actually, they can just decide you’re not a citizen, actually.

The maryland county AND hospital confirmed that she was born there, and even provided a copy of the birth certificate to the lawyer.
ICE is deporting US citizens based on skin color.
By the definition of the word "deport", ICE cannot deport a US citizen. What ICE is trying to do is exile a US citizen.
I wonder if the US citizen in question could simply jump on a plane at their destination and enter the US legally, using their US passport.
I think you probably could except for one insane fact, which is that a ton of these people are being immediately imprisoned in the destination nation. With the renewal of the Cecot thing due to the 60 minutes thing, I want to renew my question of why supposed deportees are being transfered directly to prison
Because capital profit requires slave labor.

Huh.
They also can’t enter private property without a warrant. But here we are.

There’s a distinct difference between deportation and what this is: disappearance
The point is that "deportation" is a word with a specific definition. They're calling it deportation, but it's not that.

The fuck is the point of paying taxes anymore when they're funding human rights atrocities?
"The fuck is the point of following laws anymore"
This is a very interesting sentiment I am hearing more often these days...
The irony is that this authoritarian regime NEEDS laws in order to implement and enforce their agenda. They couldn't get far without welding laws to get their way, yet they ignore the ones that get IN their way.
So we can deport everyone in the current administration because mood.
They shouldn’t, but they can and they have—a LOT. Like, over 100 American citizens are detained/deported.
Citizens can’t be deported. It’s an extralegal kidnapping with efforts to traffic people to foreign states.
Well, they are for now. Coming soon to a ‘politically undesirable’ US citizen next, regardless of skin color. If only there was some previous horrendous historical event that could serve as a dire warning for us from our past…
No.
Exiling. ICE is exiling American citizens because of racist bullshit.
Human trafficking is the legally accurate term.
Which is the real disingenuous part of how it's being framed. "Whose Lawyer Insists" makes it sound like there's just two sides making claims, when they're actually exiling citizens.
I thought Noem testified in Congress they arent deporting US citizens? /s
She meant they aren't deporting legitimate US citizens, IYKWIM.
Thats factually correct, it's definitionally impossible to deport a US citizen. When they send a US citizen to a foreign country they have kidnapped, human trafficked, and illegally exiled them.
The president was part of a major human trafficking ring. He is 100% selling people to other countries as prison laborers.
I saw a video a couple months ago where a white man with a Hispanic name got pulled over, and when the cops tried to run his info, there was nothing there and it was this whole thing. It seems like they are deleting records of anyone with a Hispanic name.
Because the whole point is the racism.
They're not even deporting most of the non-citizens. They're trafficking them to countries they have no affiliation with and/or locking them up in inhumane concentration camps.
So the US government is in the business of mass kidnapping and human trafficking of men, women, and children. Don't forget this history.
Exactly...like we forgot our federal government's other two mass deportation/exile (because you can't deport a born citizen who never "ported") movements targeting Mexican-American citizens and Mexican legal residents in the last century.

The new Rachel Maddow podcast “Burn Order” about this is fascinating. They actually just signed away their citizenship and were treated even worse.

Thank you for that as I wasn’t aware of it. I only know of it because it happened to people and family I know personally, so I researched it. Going to start it now.
My question is what would the generation that fought ww2 think of these mass detentions and mass deportations?
How does it compare to the mass deportations and detentions that they undertook in their time?
they'd have been all for it. Look what they did to minorities back them. It included forced sterilization, intentionally exposing them to radiation etc.
But we've already forgotten the Japanese internment camps, surely we can forget this too!
Yea but it's not like we'd do that to native Americans come on now
It’s ethnic cleansing and I wish people would start using this term
Don't forget and do nothing with the knowledge. That's how Americans operate.
Yes. Straight-up. But no one will do shit until it happens publicly to a celebrity and enough people rage about it on here or enough of their family members. We’ve devolved for sure
You would think with the current allegations against the god emperor, they might slow it down on the trafficking.
This is exactly why people worry about ICE. If you can be a citizen and still get detained, what’s the point of having rights?
They're not rights anymore. They're privileges now, and Trump fully plans to revoke them for anyone he doesn't like.
This sadly doesn’t end with Trump.
Carlin warned us and he was right.
They've always been privileges, and certain groups have always had less
Those aren't rights, they are now privileges under the current Trump administration.
Nah, those are rights. The Trump administration is just pretending they are not. That’s an important difference. They are doing things that are illegitimate and illegal. They did not take those rights away, because they cannot. They are violating those rights, which, in turn, makes their actions illegitimate and resistance against them legitimate.
This is an excellent point. We have to insist this
Rights only belong to child rapist baby murderer presidents.
She's been deported.
The government ignored a court order and deported a U.S.-born citizen:
And this is why it is so important that even undocumented immigrants be given 5th Amendment rights, along with any other rights that protect us from the government and law enforcement. Because all it takes is the government accusing a citizen or legal immigrant of being here illegally, and they will suddenly lose all their rights.
Also, because those are their rights, too. They don't need the right to protect mine
They need the right because it is constitutionally enshrined to them.
It says 'person' not 'citizen.'
JFC… we are going to really need to begin protesting hard and in swaths or we can all kiss our rights goodbye.
Nothing is going to happen until white people are being affected by this.
Patrice O Neal joked about it even longer ago. Slip to 1:50 if you want. https://youtu.be/TzMUFmMLx9o?si=MpjiWAdwvkvnd7Ks
I was keeping myself awake thinking about this last night. I know I can’t sit this out and that I have to do my part to help clean up yet another mess that white people made, but holy shit I am gonna be such a bitch about it.
[deleted]
No shit. It's nearly the entire reason for the original 2nd amendment, freedom from governmental tyrrany and personal protection. This ticks 2/3 boxes really only missing the militia aspect. And good luck trying to start one of those and get your rights trampled on anyway.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution#Government_tyranny
That last bit has to be done offline. Start with your inner circle if you have one.
I don't think that's actually going to accomplish anything.
We're past protesting.
We are at the (redacted) portion of history.
When this regime is out of power we better see heads roll. Everyone involved needs to be held accountable and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
They are going to pardon everyone. I hope we send them to the ICC.
If they can ignore someone's citizenship, we can ignore a pardon.
Fix your own damn problems and stop shitting it up for the rest of us
At best you'll get another milquetoast Obama-type imploring everyone to "look forwards not backwards"
Trafficked. It’s impossible to deport a citizen
She hasn’t been deported. Her lawyer has been updating on Tik Tok and confirmed she’s in Texas, not deported.
Note that the article says her family “has been told” but doesn’t say who told them and says it wasn’t DHS. Strange reporting.
The TikTok page is YourAsylumBuddy.
I thought the wording was weird and was about to do more digging (still will), but it’s nice to see that she actually wasn’t deported!
I was worried she might have been sold to human traffickers overseas. I don't trust this administration.
Please stop saying deported. She's a US citizen. She was kidnapped/ human trafficked. She cannot be deported
Whoever did this to her should go to jail and be tossed out of office. Also, manhunt to return her must happen
Isn't this the one where the family produced a Maryland birth certificate, the hospital verified she/mom were patients about the right time, and the attorney also showed childhood immunization records showing she was in the area as a child?
I don't see where she was deported, but it wouldn't surprise me at this point.
The incompetence and chaos is at insane levels. They have no clue what they are doing and they dont care it shows.
Wake me when any of these judges holds any of these doj lawyers in contempt.
Where are you seeing she's been deported? I'm not seeing that in the article, and I can't find it in other ones I've come across.
she has not been confirmed deported yet
That's not how it works, you fascist. She doesn't have to prove anything. It is on you and the government to prove she is not a citizen. And what evidence have you provided?
Yeah, I thought so.
She's not a Caucasian, so that's all that DHS needs for Trump's Administration's policies.
And backed by SCOTUS that ruled profiling is okay and it’s just an “inconvenience” if they detain a US citizen.
how would it even work when she arrives in another country? they wouldn't have records of the other citizenship...
That’s exactly why it shouldn’t happen. These countries would be able to refuse to accept someone who isn’t a citizen.
We're going to have so much freedom, so much. You’re going to get tired of freedom. You’re going to say, 'Please, please, Mr. President, it’s too much freedom. We can’t take it anymore.'
Not white.
They were presented with two different pieces of evidence showing she's a citizen, she was transferred to Louisiana against court orders, then she was deported against court orders.
They're breaking all the laws to speed run Fascism and Republicans are fine with it.
No one has been more validated in recent memory than the Abolish ICE crowd.
Detain equals kidnap. Words matter.
so is it or is it not. you got this big ass government and still cant confirm that?
They gotta run the deportation quotas up so any and all that can be dragged will be
No, the justice system already failed because she was deported with no due process. Her rights were violated.
It sounds as if it’s worse than that. This woman DID get due process and a judge said she should not be deported. And then DHS deported her anyway.
And now no one knows where she is. Good job America.
Likely she is. Can't trust DHS, CBP, Or ICE. They're definitely looking to make any non-white person illegal for simply existing within US borders.
Hey NAZI-MAGA, Show me proof that this ISN'T the case.
The 'I didn't speak up...and then they came for me...' completely fits more than ever.
Man, I remember when “innocent until proven guilty” meant something.
I think what’s really going on here is that people like Diaz are being set up for denaturalization cases. The government knows its citizens are. It also knows which ones it wants to revoke citizenship from.
Friendly reminder that ICE are domestic terrorists.
Stage 2. You can’t even prove you’re born here with standardized papers. Intentional.
If we're going to deport US citizens, might I make a suggestion? I know of someone who was convicted of 34 felonies who is married to an immigrant, sounds like an ideal candidate for illegal deportation, at least that way we could start with the criminals. 😂
ATP, I believe everyone working in ICE is either a racist, psychopath or both!😤
I’m latino, and sadly an insignificant amount of ICE (and Border Patrol) is made up of hispanic people as well.
When Orwellian meets Kafkaesque. This is utterly dystopian and fucked up.
This is exactly what DUE PROCESS is for. You don't think her papers are legit? Prove it in court. These assholes need consequences for kidnapping a citizen. Criminally charge anyone involved.
DHS lies!
*ICE detains woman, incompetently lies about her citizenship
Even if she actually isn't a citizen this is absolutely fucked up for a lack of due process. Not being able to defend yourself, and having big brother just overrule with whatever outcome they want is just pure dystopian nightmare fuel. Hope she gets some compensation and proper assistance. Fuck ICE
DHS isn't a court.
It is now - well, it's the judge, jury, and prison.
"But but if she's American why is she brown?? CHECKMATE LIBS." - Some MAGA chucklefucks, probably
And we still ain’t doin shit about it. Just watching it all go down America. Shameful.
Why isn't the state military breaking her out like do your fucking job governors
Nice we are now step 2 in fascist USA!
We as citizens need to be aware of this. This could be any of us if we aren't white. I aint white but I carry my passport on me at all times now to show I'ma citizen. If ICE tries me one day I will resist.
If only there were some of process due to people to figure this all out.
If only we had some kind of legal process for deciding questions of fact
The guilty until proven innocent fascist agenda
ICE is disappearing people
People need to go to jail for this shit.
It seems she was deported. Since she’s a U.S. citizen, what are her rights? How does she get back into the country?
She was kidnapped. Getting back without any government agreeing they made a mistake will be hard, as I'm sure she's not currently carrying any American passport or ID. She'll need lawyers, judges and officials inside the US to fight this.
Family don’t even know her whereabouts
This feels like the type of problem that due process could solve.
Here’s a novel idea… give them due process so they have a chance to prove whether they are a citizen or not. You know… like the constitution demands?
Our country has a modern day Gestapo
So American citizens now have to carry their birth certificate and passport at all times? And we’re to believe ICE isn’t the Gestapo?
I don't get it. ICE people are smart and well trained. How could this happen? /s
If they can do it to her, they can do it to you.
Reading this article felt terrifyingly similar to reading The Trial.
News articles shouldn't read like they were written by Kafka. We are already in hell. This is the Bad Place.
“She did NOT provide a valid U.S. birth certificate or any evidence in support of her claim that she is a U.S. citizen.”
Well that’s chilling. Guilty until proven innocent. Also she DID provide a valid US birth certificate.
This is like the third time in American history where the government was like, “Yeah, let’s just deport these American born citizens with Mexican ancestry. There are too many of them”
At what point do people start using the second amendment to protect against tyranny? This is literally tyranny. We are here. This is it.
What is with the transferring so fast to other states? Besides the chaos and to create confusion. It’s some purposeful protocol. Double counting for payment purposes? Some wording loophole in the government contracts for headcount payments?
Thousands of dollars earned for each contractor to make these transfers, and it prevents the normal justice system from effectively reaching clients.
Its to prevent effective legal representation and the garnering of local support.
Its what they do in Pakistan, Colombia, Russia etc.
The sad thing here is that her own community voted for this.
I just hope that the next AG has the balls to prosecute the many crimes officials in this administration are committing…
“…whose attorneys say is an American citizen but the government insists is Mexican.” And? There are millions of Mexicans who are Citizens!
My wife just got her US citizenship. Even though she is less likely to be profiled as she is white, I make sure she always carries her papers!
And they will try to deport her before anyone can prove them wrong.
Crazy that there is a discussion about citizenship when you can simply establish that by looking at skin color.
Put that /s there, or someone will think you're serious
Birth certificate smirth certificate… She’s brown, ain’t she?
If only there was a way to find out . . . 🤔
Her lawyers have it. What they don’t have is access to their client and a judge.
It’s all to meet their quota
Where are all of those “don’t tread on me” people at?
This is why republicans want to end birthright cititzenship. They want to just grab brown people and remove them from the country. Doesn't matter if they're a US citizen or not to them. The US is headed towards full stop Nazi 2.0.
ICE is the American Gestapo and MAGA is a fascist movement
may the entire trump adminstration fa la la la lall off a cliff
Writ of habeas corpus. We shouldn't need to do this, but this lawless regime insists on violating our rights. So we're gonna let a jury decide.
So, we all need to keep a copy of our birth certificate in addition to valid government issued ID?
Welcome to 1970s Brazil
‘Just carry your immigration papers’ - I was born here!
‘Prove it’
‘Falsifying documents, too, eh?’
Like, this does not end at a ‘sensible’ point in this line of questioning, when the government openly flaunts the idea that non-citizens don’t have any rights, and that they can change what makes people citizens, and actually, they can just decide you’re not a citizen, actually.
