"Epstein apparently tried to contact Nassar by mail, but the letter never reached the man who pleaded guilty to charges against him in 2017. Nassar abused an estimated 300 young athletes under the guise of medical treatment during his time as team doctor for USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University.
Epstein’s letter to Nassar was reportedly returned to sender and found on the mailroom floor at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City weeks after Epstein’s death. While the contents of the letter remain unknown, an investigator mentioned it in an email to a prison official.
“It appeared he mailed it out and it was returned back to him. I am not sure if I should open it or should we hand it over to anyone?” Along with the Nassar letter, the new documents — obtained from the federal Bureau of Prisons via a Freedom of Information Act request — include other bits about Epstein’s behavior during his final days. For instance, he was reportedly upset about the standard orange jumpsuit uniform and asked for a brown one when meeting with his lawyers. He called himself a “coward” as he tried to adjust to life in prison, but he also insisted he wasn’t a “bad guy” due to his good behavior. So the letter is fake and yet was found inside the prison where Epstein died. That is some next level fakery.

I'm not sure everyone that skims the letter understands what he's saying. He's saying that he and Nassar and Trump all shared the same desires for young girls and acted on them, but while Trump became president, they ended up in jail ...thus "life is so unfair".
It’s sort of why I don’t think he killed himself. I think he thought it was a game like all these other rich assholes who get “busted” but find themselves out of prison in a few years and still billionaires. He’d already done it before. I doubt his letter are anything other than showing off or maybe letting people know he wasn’t out of the game or something weird and arrogant.
I'm not defending any of this, but just for the sake of getting to the truth: if the prison was listed as the return address and it was return to sender, wouldn't it be sent to the prison?

Yeah, that makes sense too. As far as I know all outgoing correspondence is scanned and all incoming is opened and scanned and the inmates get a scanned copy to prevent things like LSD paper getting in.
Also USPS has informed delivery which emails you pictures. The email part is fun because you need a warrant for USPS searches but can wiretap Google much easier to get your gmail contents and find your mail.

A solid theory I heard about it being fake on YouTube (coffeezilla) is, based on the NOVA 2022 in the post stamp, it was processed in Northern Virginia. Meaning basically anyone in that region could have created the letter with the return address as Epstein's prison and sent it to Nassar knowing that if returned it would show up at the prison and become tied to Epstein.
And it is very possible for a letter to be processed in another state. Second the execution requires knowledge, planning and perfect timing to be just 3 days off.
Think about what has to happen quickly to make it a fake. Sometimes it just happens and you can't plan timing like that.
The question is does the hand writing match? Faking hand writing like that in a pinch seems somehow more far fetched than the letter being legit. Does Epstein have previous correspondence with Nassar?

I don't know much about prisons, but I believe that prisoner mail is not handled In the same way as it is for people who are free. Incoming mail is subject to considerable scrutiny in order to prevent the transfer of contraband. I imagine that outgoing mail, especially when addressed to a prisoner in another prison, would spend some time being inspected before being allowed to pass through. Such an inspection cannot be assumed to have been done within the prison of origin, and it might not be unreasonable to assume that it is processed at a facility in another state.
I am only guessing, but timing discrepancies and even discrepancies in the postmark might not amount to much.
What I do believe very firmly is that the current Department of Justice is corrupt and accustomed to criminal actions in order to protect Donald Trump. This has certainly been demonstrated even in the past few days. The Justice Department would have to present convincing and unimpeachable evidence to convince me that this letter is fake.

My understanding is that it was included because a journalist asked the FBI if it was real, so there is some official FBI correspondence regarding the video. These emails were probably just included for being under the umbrella of "the Epstein files," not because the video is somehow endorsed by the DOJ.

From my review it looks like it's just a photoshopped static image that was tweened/shifted to imitate animation, then looped.

The letter is possibly legit, I would want to see some kind of handwriting expert analysis and comparison to other known writing from Jeffrey Epstein before making a claim either way myself.
I'm alright at analysis of videos for signs of manipulation but physical documents are beyond my realm of expertise.
If it’s actually fake, then it throws doubt on every other piece of evidence. It’s deep level disinformation, just like including the shopped pictures, and it takes the focus off the hundreds of pages that were completely blacked out

It's a decades-long trove of documents and investigation materials. It's going to include all kinds of stuff that was dredged up during the investigations, some of which is credible and legitimate, and some of which isn't.
To specifically answer your question "Why release it?" -- HR 4405 that was passed almost unanimously and signed into law doesn't have exceptions for things the DOJ may, through their own discretion, decide aren't credible or relevant. The law would have even less teeth than it already does if Congress gave the DOJ permission to use their discretion like that. For example, they could broadly determine anything/everything naming Trump or anyone else was not credible, withhold it, and even deny it exists.
Much like the fake video circulated yesterday that's entirely CGI and has been on Youtube for 5 years, if the public and Congress want everything, everything is going to include a lot of dead-ends, false leads, unexplained branches of the investigation, and whatever else. The public isn't accustomed to this because what comes out at trials tends to be curated and verified, but if you had visibility to the total sum of most investigations of any substance, this kind of stuff is absolutely going to end up in those records.
This is all perfectly reasonable. My objection is that when the DOJ says these specific documents are fake, they need to release and highlight the specific documentation of investigative analysis that led them to conclude so.
That is entirely reasonable and fair. When the cell video was uploaded yesterday, there was at at least a corresponding documenting discussing why it was analyzed and where it came from.
It'd be one thing for the DOJ to release stuff and say "This is is something from 15 years ago and we just don't know at this stage without further investigation and sifting through the archives to determine what happened with that lead/evidence/witness" -- but if they're going to swiftly and firmly attest something isn't credible or is outright fraudulent they had better have supporting documentation for that beyond an off-the-cuff statement.

You are correct. The letter was sent to the facility where Nassar was in 2018, but Nassar had been relocated as of August 2019 when the postcard was sent. The letter was returned-to-sender, and was picked up by the FBI several weeks later when it bounced back to New York in September 2019. The postcard likely caught the FBI's attention due to Epstein's death in late-August 2019.

My understanding is that it was included because a journalist asked the FBI if it was real, so there is some official FBI correspondence regarding the video. These emails were probably just included for being under the umbrella of "the Epstein files," not because the video is somehow endorsed by the DOJ.

From my review it looks like it's just a photoshopped static image that was tweened/shifted to imitate animation, then looped.

It's a decades-long trove of documents and investigation materials. It's going to include all kinds of stuff that was dredged up during the investigations, some of which is credible and legitimate, and some of which isn't.
To specifically answer your question "Why release it?" -- HR 4405 that was passed almost unanimously and signed into law doesn't have exceptions for things the DOJ may, through their own discretion, decide aren't credible or relevant. The law would have even less teeth than it already does if Congress gave the DOJ permission to use their discretion like that. For example, they could broadly determine anything/everything naming Trump or anyone else was not credible, withhold it, and even deny it exists.
Much like the fake video circulated yesterday that's entirely CGI and has been on Youtube for 5 years, if the public and Congress want everything, everything is going to include a lot of dead-ends, false leads, unexplained branches of the investigation, and whatever else. The public isn't accustomed to this because what comes out at trials tends to be curated and verified, but if you had visibility to the total sum of most investigations of any substance, this kind of stuff is absolutely going to end up in those records.
This is all perfectly reasonable. My objection is that when the DOJ says these specific documents are fake, they need to release and highlight the specific documentation of investigative analysis that led them to conclude so.
That is entirely reasonable and fair. When the cell video was uploaded yesterday, there was at at least a corresponding documenting discussing why it was analyzed and where it came from.
It'd be one thing for the DOJ to release stuff and say "This is is something from 15 years ago and we just don't know at this stage without further investigation and sifting through the archives to determine what happened with that lead/evidence/witness" -- but if they're going to swiftly and firmly attest something isn't credible or is outright fraudulent they had better have supporting documentation for that beyond an off-the-cuff statement.

You are correct. The letter was sent to the facility where Nassar was in 2018, but Nassar had been relocated as of August 2019 when the postcard was sent. The letter was returned-to-sender, and was picked up by the FBI several weeks later when it bounced back to New York in September 2019. The postcard likely caught the FBI's attention due to Epstein's death in late-August 2019.
It is marked "return to sender" so it never made it to Nassar
