The letter is postmarked 13th of August and the full text starts with "Dear L. N. as you know by now, I have taken the "short route" home." Epstein was found dead on the 10th of August
So either
a) Epstein did off himself and he's confirming his intentions in this letter,
b) Epstein was killed but induced to write that in the letter, or
c) Epstein was killed and they faked this letter,
but if b or c happened why would the bit about Trump be included? Did someone want Epstein dead and Trump gone too? Or does Epstein killing himself make the most sense now?
It's almost certainly A, surely. I've always thought that the whole "Epstein didn't kill himself" thing was missing the fact that suicide is a completely rational response to the situation he was in and it would be trivial to arrange circumstances where he could do it. The question isn't whether he killed himself (in my mind) but why were th circumstances allowed to emerge where this was a possibility?
I've always felt that, whilst the stuff about guard changes and broken cameras does suggest a conspiracy, it would be much easier to find a way to let him know "hey, we're giving you a chance to take the easy way out at this time, this will not happen again" and allow a loose end to tie itself off.

Epstein died August 10th. He could have written this and given it to another inmate he trusted to post in the event that he died as a final fuck you to Trump.
Prison staff will hold/inspect outgoing mail, they don’t just take a letter from an inmate and drop it in the post straight away.
Also, they found him on Saturday morning. If he tried to mail something on Friday the 9th it wouldn’t have been postmarked until Monday the 12th at the earliest. I could absolutely see them overlooking and not inspecting outgoing mail during all the commotion.
There’s also the matter of who he called the day before he died. He ended his legal visit early that day and told prison staff he was calling his mother. His mother died in 2004, if not earlier according to records.

I helped record an audio version of the Mueller report so I literally read every word of the overview section and listened to recordings of the rest of it. It is absolutely NOT a nothing burger and one of the things that Trump supporters use to back up that claim is the number of times it says that they could not find definitive evidence for one of the claims, but did find suggestive or tangential evidence that made it clear there seemed to be more there, and then would say, but the White House or other agency refused to turn over requested documents or personnel declined to speak to investigators or simply claimed no recall about everything they were asked. Which is prettty damning and probably criminal in itself in terms of obstruction and refusing to cooperate.
The strategy is basically, "If I don't literally admit to the crime, then it effectively didn't happen."
This same strategy is used by teenagers when they get caught doing something really bad at school, and the adult gives them a chance to come clean: "Was that [illicit activity]?" "No." "It sure looked like it." "Nuh-uh." Just deny, deny, deny. If you can get just one person in authority to accept that maybe it didn't happen the way that the other adult said it did, then they're clear.
Which was insane! Not that they tried it, but ... that's all it took to make it to away. The report was damning. But the Republicans said "no it isn't" and the entire rest of the world went "oh ok, I guess it wasn't".

I helped record an audio version of the Mueller report so I literally read every word of the overview section and listened to recordings of the rest of it. It is absolutely NOT a nothing burger and one of the things that Trump supporters use to back up that claim is the number of times it says that they could not find definitive evidence for one of the claims, but did find suggestive or tangential evidence that made it clear there seemed to be more there, and then would say, but the White House or other agency refused to turn over requested documents or personnel declined to speak to investigators or simply claimed no recall about everything they were asked. Which is prettty damning and probably criminal in itself in terms of obstruction and refusing to cooperate.
The strategy is basically, "If I don't literally admit to the crime, then it effectively didn't happen."
This same strategy is used by teenagers when they get caught doing something really bad at school, and the adult gives them a chance to come clean: "Was that [illicit activity]?" "No." "It sure looked like it." "Nuh-uh." Just deny, deny, deny. If you can get just one person in authority to accept that maybe it didn't happen the way that the other adult said it did, then they're clear.
