Can we still keep calling Russia “Venemaa?” (In Finnish a small boat is “vene” and so Estonia and Finland are among the few places referring to them as “the boat people”, in finnish it’s “Venäja” for Russia).
Huh, "Venema" is a common Frisian surname (well, "common" is exaggerating it, it's more like "not rare"). I always figured it was a kind of mutation of "veen man" ("peatbog man") but now I'm wondering if there's any common etymology or if it's just a coincidence.

Always makes me sad to see Eesti cannot into Nordic despite their efforts :(
I (a dane) will gladly welcome Eesti into Nordic
But just because you established their capital named Danish town
it was a deal, we got the capital, they got their flag from us.
I don't really mind them joining but now i oppose the idea since you're in favour of it.
Now i want them to join so hard since you don't want them to join
I read from an old comic somewhere that the only requirement estonia need to do is change flag
Can we still keep calling Russia “Venemaa?” (In Finnish a small boat is “vene” and so Estonia and Finland are among the few places referring to them as “the boat people”, in finnish it’s “Venäja” for Russia).
I thought it was just Mordor at this point.
So where the fuck is Rohan... Is it Poland?!
Definitely, I’m not the biggest Lotr fan but didn’t Rohan saved the day with their cavalry at some point? Just like the Poles did with their Hussar.
The winged hussars will ride again!!!!
Interesting, what did make russians appear more boaty in the eyes of finns than any other tribe back then?
The Rus vikings, most probably
Yes. Rus = rowing, and what is rowed? A boat! 😊
Probably goes back to the viking age when slavic oarsmen would often work as rowers on Norse ships.
“Vene”is also used in Estonian for small boat, though much more rarely.
Those who row? The Rus?

Fine, Baltic take water back from Suomi.
Says the guy that calls germany saxony
Atleast we dont call Germany a saxophone! 😂
Unrealistic, USA would’ve called them like Romania or at best Sweden
Aw, just let Eesti into Nordic.
in Latvija we also call them Suomi, I wonder how many languages use the "uo" .
