Italian playing cards do have different suits: Batons, Cups, Swords, and Coins. Ranks of each suit go from 1 to 10, so only 40 cards in the deck.

Nobody invented playing cards. Like with math, poker was discovered.
It is good that the best cards have names. A pair of 12s is not as cool as a pair of queens. But I submit that it was a mistake that aces can be low for straights and Razz.

My kids have a deck of cards with the suits being hearts, diamonds, butterflies, and stars. Also the cards have no numerical value nor face cards. It’s all based on suit and color. As someone who is partially colorblind, it’s almost impossible to play with them thus they dominate me.

The diamond and I believe club as well weren't actually things before playing cards. The diamond shape comes from cards
