Alola with Bug. Literally one of the best regions to start with Bug type.
Both Grubbin line and Wimpod line can be found relatively early in game (with Grubbin literally can be found in early route), you also had option like Araquanid or Ribombee that evolve really early in game, while having serviceable stats compared to most other early Bug mon.
I was so angry when I realized you can catch Grubbin super early but you can't evolve into vikavolt until you reach the last island. Vikavolt was one of my favorite new Pokemon in that game. I felt ripped off having to use a square grub for most of the game when I was excited for the railgun beetle.
Butterfree is an early game carry in a lot of games. Its stats trail off in the mid-through late game, but it gets fully evolved so early and that gives it pretty good stats for early game and it has a lot of decent support moves.
You need the seventh badge to access the only place where golett can be caught. If you're just gonna use it as a fly slave then I guess that's fine but I don't like catching pokemon that late into the game. I gotta spend time with them.
Especially if you switch it to leave seismitoad
Not everyone is fine with that. I wouldn't switch out a pokemon I've had since before I got the second badge for one I just caught one badge before finishing the main storyline.
The point of it being a flyer is that it is NOT flying type. So it fits on a ton of types of teams that other flyers would not.
I was using an Emolga the first time i got to that point in the game. But it can't fly, and i didn't want another flying type, because of the overlap. So a good ground type that you can get around the time that you start to be able to learn EQ is excellent timing. AND it can fit as the teams flyer.
And BW1 really doesn't have a lot of good or interesting flyers. Unfezant, Swoobat, Archeops, Swanna, Sigilyph, Golurk, and the the birds and dragon only found on victory road.
The only other of those i would want to use in a full playthrough is Archeops and Sigilyph (i love sigilyph).
So in my mind the game only has 2 competitors to fly with. And all of them are flying.
Never thought about Sigilyph for a moment pretty much ever.
But a few months ago i played both gen 5 games for the first time.
And in White 1 it just felt like it fit so well in a sense. Like i really cannot explain it. But i just enjoyed seeing a few trainers and such with it in a really weird way.
Before i started White 2 i was thinking about what i wanted on my team. And i thought of a flyer/flying type. And Sigilyph just sounded like such a unique and fitting pokemon to use.
And using it WAS indeed also really fun. And it just kinda EXPLODED into my top 10 favorite pokemon. Now a while later, it is still at least top 20 i think. And i still can't really explain why i like it.
Hoenn with water types. Actually, most regions with water types lol, there’s just so many cool designs for them that its hard to choose just one most of the time
Especially in Kanto where so many good water types aren’t available until the last couple of areas. Hard not to lock in your team by the time you get to Seafoam.
Charmander is the coolest. Anyone who doesn't want a fire breathing dragon is lying (inb4 "not a dragon type", I didn't say dragon type, I said dragon).
But you have to also concede that it is tactically the worst choice. Other than Erika, why even carry a Fire type at all in Kanto? Most major fights, you would rather have any other starter.
Gyarados is just so consistently good. It’s at its worst in Gen 2 and Gen 3 Hoenn but even in FRLG it can pull its weight due to being a hard counter to Misty and getting early access to Secret Power and Water Pulse for the plethora of rock/ground types you battle at that point in the game. From Gen 4 onward, it’s absolutely busted thanks to the physical/special split.
Eh. I’ll disagree for Gen 2 specifically. Feraligatr is available earlier and has a much higher special attack for water and ice moves. Plus, it has access to Ice Punch while Gyara is stuck with either Icy Wind from Pryce or Blizzard from the Game Corner. Plus, shiny Pokémon inherently have pretty bad DV’s in Gen 2.
Pokémon games are easy, but there's being easy, and then there's making a complete mockery of the concept of pacing and balance, which Gyarados does in almost every game it's available in.
Mudkip is one of my favourite starters so I've never used any other water type in Hoenn. Except for my first ruby run where I had a Tentacruel as well.
almost every game I sacrifice a little bit of game balance to have two water types because it's my favorite type and there are just so many good ones. In ORAS I actually attempted an all water team. I'd rate it about 7.8/10
While mega evolution didn’t exist yet in Gen 4, you could get the Fist Plate as early as Veilstone. It’s not the full 50% boost that STAB would give, but 20% is nothing to sneeze at
There’s also the fact that every type that is weak to Fire is also weak to either Fighting or Flying. You could argue that Sinnoh’s best Fire type also wasn’t a Fire type
(Now, I don’t necessarily think “Staraptor is Sinnoh’s best Fighting and/or Fire type” are winning arguments, given that Infernape and Lucario exist. But if you chose a starter other than Chimchar, Staraptor might actually be the best Fire type (replacement) that’s left)
More specifically the ghost/fire combo, I had to sideline my longterm team member Chandelure for Ceruledge (because Bitter Blade is too good), but then I found a shiny Sensu Oricorio in Kitakami and fell in love with the bird 😍
i'd get a hounstone just to play with greavard. then for some damn reason legends z-a decided to add that greavard kills you by touching. great, another pokemon I can't love on, perfect.
Normally I don’t double up at all, but Alpha Sapphire has so many good ground types that on my first playthrough I had Swampert, Camerupt, and Flygon on my team. It turned out to be really helpful in the battle mansion because I also had a Manectric on my team, so I could use discharge in triple battles and hit all enemies without damaging my own side.
Gen 1 and 2 Normals. I know people probably laugh at the idea of having a Normal type on your team now, but they were really good back then and you had a bunch of options: Snorlax was basically given to you for free and was an absolute monster in Gen 2; the early route Normal types were mostly trash but great HM slaves and could carry you to mid game; Persian you get pretty early and it's really good with the broken Gen 1 Speed mechanics; Chansey/Blissey never die; Dodrio gets slept on as a fast attacker; Tauros is obviously the GOAT in Gen 1 with its high Speed and access to lots of special moves... And then you obviously have some of the other stuff, which might be your flavor and you could still actually use it in those games to some success even though it isn't quite good (Clefable, Granbull, Miltank, Wigglytuff...)
The first two generations were very kind to Normal types. Which is why it's so crazy what absolute garbage they've been pretty much ever since (other than random viable stuff that pops up from time to time like Gen 3 Slaking or early Gen 9 Hisuian Zoroark and Ursaluna). I read somewhere that originally they actually were going to buff Normal types in Gen 2 by letting them be Super Effective against Dark types. That would be a really good change if they decided to come back and implement it now.
I was absolutely dedicated to my little buddy Fuecoco in SV, which meant that even though I love Scovillain and Dragapult, I just couldn't fit them in.
I had this issue with fighting types in gen 5 lol.
Picked Tepig, but man I want a Scrafty and a Mienshao. I took Scrafty but then the dark type overlapped with the Krookodile and Bisharp I was considering lmao
Basically every region: Water starter vs. every other water type. It doesn't help for grass or fire either, but it's just so much more noticeable with water being the most common type in the games.
I have the same ground typing issue in gen 4. Mamoswine, Torterra, Garchomp, and Gliscor, all high up there as my favorites.
Also with gen 5: Bug types. Escavalier (if I can trade), Scolipede, Leavanny, Galvantula, Volcarona (if bw2), and Crustle, all of which in my 50 all time mons.
(Though nowadays my "team" in any Pokémon game is basically half-a full box of mons I like I shuffle around every few fights cause I'm too indecisive to pick 6, ZA had me running around with a team of like 40-ish Pokémon lmao.)
As a blastoise guy I feel this. You're really great but I don't have room for you Lapras/Cloyster/Poliwrath/Vaporeon/Starmie/probably more I'm forgetting!
I always have this problem in Sinnoh. I love both Garchomp, Gliscor, and Torterra, but having all three on my team would make Snowpoint city a living hell (Though I usually solve this by having Lucario blast through everything)
Unova does this a lot, not just all the ground types. Basically every Dark type in Unova is something I'd want to use. Ironically between limited availability and lack of a dual-type, Zoroark is the least appealing dark type in the region personally.
There's also the fire types, Darmanitan is available earlier in the game and provides insane physical Fire power with sheer force; but Chandelure hits even harder on the special side with added ghost type. If you have access to fan internet servers or just an action replay for its mystery gift item, Victini is also an incredible option with its early availability and psychic type.
I could keep going, Unova has a lot of good Pokemon and therefore a lot of options.
It's also a type good enough you might reasonably justify having two of them on a playthrough team though. Especially in games with HMs where Waterfall and Surf are both necessary and useful in combat.
Paldea and either Fire or Ghost type. Fire sees competition between Skeledirge, Ceruledge, Armorouge and Chi-Yu while Ghost sees competition between Skeledirge, Ceruledge, Annihilape and Gholdengo. Other good options in the region too but you take my point.
Gen 6 picking my ghost and grass type as pumpkaboo or trevenant. Another example is me picking between another one is Fearow Spearow and Pidgey in gen 1. Lastly is ZA picking Chandelure or Frostlass for who to shiny alpha hunt. If you want to know who I picked for ZA I made a post about it and a nickname which I really want some feedback about it ,so if you have time can you please check it? Thank you so much for everyone who does.
Platinum is like this with fire types, but the reason I’m split between two there is because there’s basically only two options in the whole game, infernape and rapidash
I almost always pick a grass starter so my usual dilemma is my starter and any other grass type, but it was especially felt when choosing between having Sprigatito or Capsakid
I struggled with Altaria vs Salamence in 3rd gen, and again just now in Z-A. I love them both a lot, Altaria's been with me a lot longer and I do somewhat prefer my cloud birb, but Salamence is stronger, also raising Bagon is a nice new challenge at a point in the game where my team is pretty much all finished evolving, etc etc
As a kid playing Saphire I went with Salamence, but I stuck with Altaria in Z-A, and keep Salamence in my battle team for Ranked.
Unova has this problem everywhere, i can never decide. Scrafty, Krook, Bisharp, Hydreigon for Dark. Volcarona and Darmanitan for Fire. Leavanny and Volc for Bug. Jellicent or Samurott. Eelektross or Galvantula.
Quaquaval, Pawmot, Annihilape, Flamigo, (Great Tusk in Scarlet)
Then Koraidon and Slither Wing in Scarlet, Iron Hands & Iron Valiant in Violet... and Okidogi in the DLC.
And that's ignoring classic returning bangers like Lucario and Gallade. Gen 9 slaps for Fighting types

Ribombee is great for a playthrough! It outruns dang near everything
And its Sticky Web allows the rest of your team to also outrun pretty much everything.
It's an absolutely GOATed playthrough mon.
Ribombee snuck up on me, started as type coverage and he kept kicking ass. Named him Oberon, he earned it being such a king
Quiver dance ribombee my beloved
Grubbin suffers from being stuck as a Charjabug for so much of the game. Ribombee is utterly fantastic, though.
I was so angry when I realized you can catch Grubbin super early but you can't evolve into vikavolt until you reach the last island. Vikavolt was one of my favorite new Pokemon in that game. I felt ripped off having to use a square grub for most of the game when I was excited for the railgun beetle.
Luckily they did fixed it in UsUm. As now you get to evolve Grubbin early in Ula Ula islan
One major issue that USUM solves, so weird it wasn’t always at the power plant
“LIGHT THAT BURNS THE SKY?!” “PLEASE LIVE THIS RIBOMBEE!!”
Max out that affection and watch it survive on 1hp to not make you sad
I did a bug play through of Sun this year. It was so good. Butterfree was such an early game carry I couldn’t drop her for the elite four.
I think only Unova can hold a candle to Alola for bug types.
Butterfree is an early game carry in a lot of games. Its stats trail off in the mid-through late game, but it gets fully evolved so early and that gives it pretty good stats for early game and it has a lot of decent support moves.
Unova is also a good bug region with mons like Scolipede, Volcarona, Galvantula, leavanny, etc
I love araquanid. Its attack stat is just ok, but water bubble DOUBLES the damage of all water moves. One of my fav bug mons
Great shout there, absolutely agreed
sad golurk noises yet its inevitable
My problem with golurk is that it comes too late into the game, I'd love to use it otherwise
Using Golurk as your flyer is lowkey a power move
It can learn fly??
https://preview.redd.it/7qlk6d2ijy8g1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cc8f82e44b8f5f1d59d7e4b878e031c7b1422ca2
Indeed
Living here in Unova, fighting trainers across the land
You gotta take flight in your ghostly robot ‘mon
YOU. DIG. ROBOT MONSTERS
I. DIG. ROBOT MONSTERS!
CHICKS. DIG. ROBOT MONSTERS!
Since learning this, It’s always my dedicated Flyer in any run I can acquire it
It’s a giant robot, of course it can fly.
It sure can. Blasts off like a rocket
Yep, it's a great Iron Giant reference
Exactly what I did the moment I found out it learns Fly
I traded a golurk egg over just so i could use it early game
It comes like right after you get fly. And it is a flyer. So I disagree. Not too late at all. Especially if you switch it to leave seismitoad
You need the seventh badge to access the only place where golett can be caught. If you're just gonna use it as a fly slave then I guess that's fine but I don't like catching pokemon that late into the game. I gotta spend time with them.
Not everyone is fine with that. I wouldn't switch out a pokemon I've had since before I got the second badge for one I just caught one badge before finishing the main storyline.
I like hatching Pokemon for that reason. Easy to feel connected to them if I have them at level 1 or 5.

Sigilyph mentioned
Never thought about Sigilyph for a moment pretty much ever.
But a few months ago i played both gen 5 games for the first time.
And in White 1 it just felt like it fit so well in a sense. Like i really cannot explain it. But i just enjoyed seeing a few trainers and such with it in a really weird way.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
I'm currently playing Black and yeah, I do love Golett... I ended up with a Sismitoad in my team and no one can replace my Skittle
That's why I loved X and Y, you get Golett in the route directly above the second gym and I adored using him in my Y playthrough.
Kalos has a fantastic spread of Pokémon, so long as you pick Amaura you can have one of every type before your second gym badge.
I've always hated how consistently Ice and Dragon are late game only but Kalos fixes that.
No mention of Seismitoad either…
The humble stunfisk:
https://preview.redd.it/gk8x90yoiy8g1.jpeg?width=663&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9db5be4e94a4c2ca5d3c14df0d2f05579dee8d9c
I think that stunfisk got into the large mushroom supply.
Seismitoad shares no weaknesses with Excadrill and provides a surf user and water coverage. Both of these goats can and should be run
Hoenn with water types. Actually, most regions with water types lol, there’s just so many cool designs for them that its hard to choose just one most of the time
Kanto Gyarados vs literally anything else.
Especially in Kanto where so many good water types aren’t available until the last couple of areas. Hard not to lock in your team by the time you get to Seafoam.
Gyarados, Lapras, and Starmie are really the only non starter options imo, they’re just so much cooler and better than the other options
Doesn't help that you can get the best Water/Ice type way before you can go to Seafoam for the more mediocre options.
I have the same problem with Floatzel in Sinnoh
Had this guy and two other water bois on my team my first playthrough lol I couldn’t help it
Gastrodon is the goat tho
It sucks when you pick squirtle as a starter because then you already have a water type and don’t need gyrados. But gyrados is just so cool
The obvious solution here is to ditch Squirtle and choose the obvious best choice, Charmander.
While he is certainly a neat and interesting choice, I’m a proud member of the squirtle squad
That is before your take your meds, after that you choose the actual best choice, Bulbasaur
That's a funny way to spell Bulbasaur.
Every reigon I struggle to pick a water type, and yet 99% of the time I also end up with a Gyarados on my team for playthrough #50 lmao.
Even in gen 2. It's hard to compete with RED Gyrados, even for Feraligatr.
I’ve never even used a Gyarados
Pokémon games are easy, but there's being easy, and then there's making a complete mockery of the concept of pacing and balance, which Gyarados does in almost every game it's available in.
Water is the most common type and before Gen 7 was all but mandatory due to HMs so it's very competitive.
The answer is Whiscash, I won't be taking anymore questions.
Such an underrated mon
Would’ve been cool if we could fish up a Barboach before Wattson instead of after Norman.
Quadruple weakness squad is always underrated and underappreciated. For me he shares the same, special spot with Gastrodon.
Water ground such a good type
Mudkip is one of my favourite starters so I've never used any other water type in Hoenn. Except for my first ruby run where I had a Tentacruel as well.
*Hoenn with water types if your starter wasn’t mudkip
I had Swampert and Milotic both in my Hoenn team
Even harder when your favourite type of starter to pick is Water :(
For real, I’m into Water starters these days, but it means I can’t really include other water types in my team
And it’s the most common type, there are so many awesome designs… LIKE RELICANTH
almost every game I sacrifice a little bit of game balance to have two water types because it's my favorite type and there are just so many good ones. In ORAS I actually attempted an all water team. I'd rate it about 7.8/10
Sinnoh with Fighting types:
All goats.
Sinnoh be like "Yup we made 4 viable fighting type to use in a normal playthrough, sure we didn't forget anything else"
Sinnoh Fire type dying in the corner
And the best fighting type in Sinnoh wasn’t even actually fighting type until its new mega evolution.
this post brought to you by close combat bird gang
seeing the bird can learn close combat at 30 something level as a kid is a blessing
For a second I thought you were talking about Lopunny.
Ponyta on life support: please, kill me…
This is too real in every Sinnoh playthrough. It’s either my favorite Pokemon Infernape, or another very much beloved Lucario…
Infernape wins for me because it's also by far the best option for fire types in Sinnoh
It’s the region I end up playing all Fighting Type and I did that again in Legends Arceus lol
Toxicroak isn't that good pre-fairy type tbh.
It's still a cool-ass fighting type Pokemon that you can absolutely use in a playthrough.
But he's a punchy frog 🥺
Scarlet & Violet with a Ghost type (Skeledirge, Annihilape, Ceruledge, Houndstone). I could add like 5 more, but you get the idea.
[deleted]
More specifically the ghost/fire combo, I had to sideline my longterm team member Chandelure for Ceruledge (because Bitter Blade is too good), but then I found a shiny Sensu Oricorio in Kitakami and fell in love with the bird 😍
Too many ghost types to pick in S/V.
I mean Oriocorio can change forms at least, it’s not locked to ghost type
4/6 of my Violet gameplay consisted of ghost types. They are all so good
i'd get a hounstone just to play with greavard. then for some damn reason legends z-a decided to add that greavard kills you by touching. great, another pokemon I can't love on, perfect.
Oddly enough I had the same issue in Alola (Decidueye, Palossand, Mimikyu, Marowak)
Z-A offers Barbaracle and Gyarados as the water type you can get early.
Plus Starmie and Greninja pretty early as well.
(I know cause I had all but Starmie on my team in ZA immediately lol)
Normally I don’t double up at all, but Alpha Sapphire has so many good ground types that on my first playthrough I had Swampert, Camerupt, and Flygon on my team. It turned out to be really helpful in the battle mansion because I also had a Manectric on my team, so I could use discharge in triple battles and hit all enemies without damaging my own side.
Sinnoh is the region with too many great ground types. Not including Torterra, you have Gastriodon, Mamoswine, Gliscor, Garchomp.
I play monotype runs, so this is not an issue for me
Fairy types, of course?
Also, pve...so not a big deal. Idc if I double up. Not really that severe of an issue.
Swellow vs pelliper( Omega Ruby)
Facade or Rain synergy
unovan bug types, do i pick galvantula, leavanny, or crustle (i just pick all of them lol)
Not saying Scolipede is CRIMINAL
Escavalier and accelgor too. They're all passable to amazing too.
Durant and volcarona also from genv but I don't think you could even get them midway (Durant on victory road? and volcarona post game?)
You can theoretically get Volcarona during the Main Story via the Larvesta Egg from the Pokemon Ranger on Route 18
Just did a Unova Bug run and there are so many. Leavanny didn’t make the cut
Darmanitan or Chandelure for a Fire-type in BW (if you didn’t pick Tepig)
Candle boi all the way
Guardevoir or Florgess as a Fairy in ZA.
I picked the third option, Clefable. Epic coverage and always over leveled for some reason
Clefable is in the fast exp group so it needs less exp to level up
Also gen V, but dragon type.
Haxorus or Hydreigon???
https://preview.redd.it/svpplmymfy8g1.png?width=475&format=png&auto=webp&s=c01cbb151ad62fde46a2d3f5285a7f1bcb554f17
(or more realistically, Zweilous)
Only the real chads go with the GOAT Druddigon.
I used to always pick Sandile, but ZA changed my views on the Drilbur line. Excadrill hard carried my team through the main story and the DLC.
Ceruledge or Annihilape
I used both in my first playthrough team - they didn't share too many weaknesses and both were reliable enough to solo a bunch of battles.
And skeleditge
It's totally okay to have more then one of each type in a casual playthrough
Yeah, no my brain doesn't allow it
Especially for good types like Ground, Fighting, Ghost, ect
In the case you've brought the only answer is Krookodile
But water type in hoenn, too many good choices
I was absolutely dedicated to my little buddy Fuecoco in SV, which meant that even though I love Scovillain and Dragapult, I just couldn't fit them in.
Flying types in sinnoh. Chatot, staraptor, Crobat, Vespiquen, Noctowl, Gliscor, Altaria, Togekiss, Tropius… So many good options
Staraptor wins easily for me, my favorite bird. But I usually also bring Togekiss and sometimes Chatot lol
Inserta a joke about D/P fire types here
Tyranitar don't need any other ground type, yes I realize he's rock/dark
I had this issue with fighting types in gen 5 lol. Picked Tepig, but man I want a Scrafty and a Mienshao. I took Scrafty but then the dark type overlapped with the Krookodile and Bisharp I was considering lmao
Basically every region: Water starter vs. every other water type. It doesn't help for grass or fire either, but it's just so much more noticeable with water being the most common type in the games.
Me in ZA with a dinosaur team (5 of em are rock):
Excadrill and it’s not even close
That excadrill is Soo well photoshopped
In Z-A, you either use Starmie or Barbaracle
Also people should try Golurk or Sesmitoad
Every ground type Pokemon is perfect and they all deserve the spot in my team
Hoenn grass types, and water/dark choices
Skeledirge and Ceruledge
What makes it worse is that they’re the exact same type
Now that I think about it… I could make an entire team out of Fire/Ghost types
Chandelure, Marowak, Blacephalon, Typhlosion, Skeledirge, Ceruledge
Does Sinnoh with Infernape vs Rapidash count?

Kanto Water Types
As a blastoise guy I feel this. You're really great but I don't have room for you Lapras/Cloyster/Poliwrath/Vaporeon/Starmie/probably more I'm forgetting!
Por que no los dos.
Every region and Water-types.
There are so many Water-types.
It's also a type good enough you might reasonably justify having two of them on a playthrough team though. Especially in games with HMs where Waterfall and Surf are both necessary and useful in combat.
Paldea was rough for me because skeledirge and ceruledge existing at the same time was TORTURE they are so cool
Gen 3 Gardevoir and Metagross. Kinda fixed now since Gardevoir is psychic fairy.
Had this same problem with ZA
Whichever shines first.
And here I am picking golurk
Unova is also a struggle with picking a dark type.
Do I go with Krok, Zoroark or Bisharp?
Definitely fairy in HGSS!
1st gen and Fire-type either Rapidash or Ninetales
I'm absolutely grabbing seismitoad tho
Dark for me:
Krookodile Zorua Scrafty Hydreigon
Ever Purrloin, Bisharp, and Mandibuzz are elite. There isn't a dark type I wouldn't like having on my team.
Water type, almost every region.
Why choose Excadrill or Krookodile when Scolipede with bulldoze is right there :3
Sinnoh Water. Apart from Piplup, you can get both Buizel and Shellos on the same route.
Krookodile all the way for me
Water types really dominate every region.
What kind of dilemma is this? Krookodile all the way and it's not even close
Do you mean the Nidoking slot?
Sinnoh with fire types. Ah no, wait.
Platinum with ground types as well. There’s Torterra but also Gliscor, Garchomp, and Hippowdon who are all so cool
Hoenn: Mega Evolution
Kalos to a lesser extent.
Lumiose to a greater one.
Galar with Dark types
Kanto doesn't really have one, the closest is either fire (Charizard, Arcanine, Rapidash, Magmar, Moltres, Ninetales, Flareon)
Johto steel types (Fortress, Steelix, Scizor, Skarmory)
Hoenn Grass types (Sceptile, Shiftry, Breloom, Ludicolo, Cradily, Cacturne) Sinnoh Fighting types (Infernape, Lucario, Toxicroak, Gallade)
Unova ground types (Excadrill, Krookodile, Seismitoad, Golurk)
Kalos Dragon types (Goodra, Dragalge, Tyrantrum, Noivern)
Alola Bug types (Araquanid, Vikavolt, Golisopod, Ribkmbee)
Galar Dragon Types (Duraladon, Dracovish, Dragapult, Dracozolt, Flapple, Appletun, Eternatus)
Paldea Grass types (Meowscarada, Arboliva, Toedscruel, Scovillian)
Paldea and either Fire or Ghost type. Fire sees competition between Skeledirge, Ceruledge, Armorouge and Chi-Yu while Ghost sees competition between Skeledirge, Ceruledge, Annihilape and Gholdengo. Other good options in the region too but you take my point.
Sinnoh and fire types
Kanto and any type introduced after gen 1
Gen 6 picking my ghost and grass type as pumpkaboo or trevenant. Another example is me picking between another one is Fearow Spearow and Pidgey in gen 1. Lastly is ZA picking Chandelure or Frostlass for who to shiny alpha hunt. If you want to know who I picked for ZA I made a post about it and a nickname which I really want some feedback about it ,so if you have time can you please check it? Thank you so much for everyone who does.
Fairy types in Sword/Shield. Grimmsnarl, hatterene, alcremie, gardevoir, shiinotic, galarian rapidash, galarian weezing, etc. Too many to choose from
Platinum is like this with fire types, but the reason I’m split between two there is because there’s basically only two options in the whole game, infernape and rapidash
Gotta ask yourself.
Are you going to put Scrafty on your lineup? If so, Excadrill. If not, Krookodile.
Krookodile with Moxie, Hone Claws, & Power Trip all day, every day.
I almost always pick a grass starter so my usual dilemma is my starter and any other grass type, but it was especially felt when choosing between having Sprigatito or Capsakid
When I playthrough these games for a thing, one will be one my BW team and the other on my B2W2 team
Flying type before HMs were removes
I struggled with Altaria vs Salamence in 3rd gen, and again just now in Z-A. I love them both a lot, Altaria's been with me a lot longer and I do somewhat prefer my cloud birb, but Salamence is stronger, also raising Bagon is a nice new challenge at a point in the game where my team is pretty much all finished evolving, etc etc
As a kid playing Saphire I went with Salamence, but I stuck with Altaria in Z-A, and keep Salamence in my battle team for Ranked.
Both. I’ll take both.
TRUEEEEEE but you don't really need Steel type in Unova since there's no fairies yet so just use Krookodile
Pelipper and Swellow in gen 3. Two goats fr
Well I was never competitive but then I battled someone who was at a college pokemon club. Their Krookodile was too fast.
Unova has this problem everywhere, i can never decide. Scrafty, Krook, Bisharp, Hydreigon for Dark. Volcarona and Darmanitan for Fire. Leavanny and Volc for Bug. Jellicent or Samurott. Eelektross or Galvantula.
Excadrill is the more powerful 'mon, but Krookodile has more aura.
Quaquaval, Pawmot, Annihilape, Flamigo, (Great Tusk in Scarlet) Then Koraidon and Slither Wing in Scarlet, Iron Hands & Iron Valiant in Violet... and Okidogi in the DLC.
And that's ignoring classic returning bangers like Lucario and Gallade. Gen 9 slaps for Fighting types
You don't think I had both, along with Bisharp and Scrafty, think again!
Gen 9 and ghost types. Specifically cool ghost fire types
Of course you will inevitably pick KRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROKODILE!
Me at 9 yrs old, playing Silver: Meganium, Sunflora, and Bellosom definitely all fit on the same team.
Me at 25 yrs old, playing Sun: Primarina, Araquanid, and Toxapex all deserve my love
And Krookodile wins every time.
Gen 4 except it's like 20 viable pokemon pre-post game.
