• She got influenced by Diabate in many ways. And diabate by her too. I guess in a world with few people we're only ever influenced by those people and I guess that's the point the show's trying to make.

I take it as more of THE HIVE manipulating them both in the same way

Why not both. Humans are social by nature. So it wouldn't be weird if the immune got influenced by the other dozen that were left. Especially if someone like Carol would think a cure would be impossible, which wouldn't be weird to conclude after hearing they'd have to do an invasive surgery on them to make them join. They used isolation to break Carol.

I'm leaning towards the cure being relatively simple. If Manousos and Carol had a little time to try and uncouple a joined they'd maybe succeed. That's why the joined "needed their space". Both as a isolation tactic and self preservation. But that's just pure speculation on my part.

I think that Vince Gilligan is doing an excellent job showcasing how most situations are not one-sided and many things have multiple meanings, whether intentional or not. Nothing is black and white, it's all gray.

I hope that Carol’s fling with Zosia calms down some of the more overheated rhetoric that was previously directed at Koumba.

Indeed, there already seems to be a silence from those who were very judgmental that any relations with the hive was akin to being a sex predator (some even argued that anyone who still liked such a character was a supporter/apologist of sex abuse).

Carol and Koumba are both messy, polarizing characters with big personalities and human needs. They are doing the best they can to navigate a bizarre relational world with a manipulative hive, and they both deserve some empathy.

I’m not gonna fault the guy for having intimate moments with ppl who act very close to humans (who are actively manipulating him). He is doing too much tho.

I mean he is living out all of his personal fantasies, with basically zero limits, and no one to judge him for it. All the while, the Hive is not only facilitating it, but actively reinforcing the idea that everything is A-OK! Being able to summon literally anything on Earth, to do anything or have anything done for you, all with little friction?

He's living as an Emperor, being able to have every whim satisfied, I'm not surprised he's living large.

Deep down, they all know the truth. There are varying degrees of admitting it; but the reason they don't run when one of the others come by, is because on some level, they know their 'guests' are the only people they're actually talking to.

Wait, I know you’re not implying that Carol’s infatuation with Zosia is a result of Diabate’s influence …

Diabete got his avocado toast breakfast sandwich from her, what else?

  • [removed]

She has the mind of every single woman on Earth, so I’m sure she knows what she’s doing lol.

    Knows every kama sutra move

Not sure how helpful that is for 2 women.

2 throbbing clits rubbing against each other in every position known to mankind, “they” have the combined knowledge of every human on earth, I’m sure she knows some pretty kinky crazy shit that Carol would have just EATEN UP

'I've heard of going scorched earth after a breakup, but this is ridiculous." -Jerry Seinfeld watching this probably.

you can say pussy on reddit

Downvote just for self censorship. This isn’t kindergarten.

  • She was manipulated very good, that 40 days of isolation I think was the key

  • I thinks Diabante will join the resistance soon

I think diabete will change his mind once they get access to his eggs

Well, with the amount of sex he’s been having, the hive has plenty of his genetic material.

They've probably got a lot of sperm samples at this point.

Sperm cells are maybe the one type you couldn't turn into stem cells. They lack the cellular machinery for replication and a bunch of other basic funtions, because they are designed to either join with an egg that already possesses those, or die quickly.

Lol now I'm just imagining each season is them convincing another person to move into an empty house at the Cul-de-sac and join the resistance

    Willingly? I doubt it.

I think the biggest hint of his upcoming arc was during breakfast when he watched what Carol was doing and copied her. The next biggest hint was during the James Bond sequence when the illusion broke.

Sharp observations, I hadn’t picked up on those yet

    Why?

He’ll get bored, but also learn they have figured out how to make him join without his consent.

Like someone else noted, the breakfast scene.  He is open to trying others ideas.

but also learn they have figured out how to make him join without his consent.

Them having people join without consent isn't an issue for them, causing harm without their consent is the issue. Koumba will not consent to the needle operation but he sure is having a lot of sex and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of it is unprotected and, y'know, they abort the embryo(s) and cultivate stem cells that relate to him that way.

These guys can't even kill plants, I'm pretty sure they're anti-abortion.

They have performed operations which kills cells and I have a feeling they'll view an embryo as a matter of cells.

You are giving me a lot to theorize about

Gonna be the pain of the wait. I really hope season 2 isn't a long wait.

I don't think they will abort because it might be considered "killing" (remember, they avoid ANTS.) But stem cells can be harvested from umbilical cords, If I'm remembering correctly.

I can imagine him having a VERY rude awaking realizing one of his favorites is pregnant and not only will the others use it to force conversion, but he has a child and that child is going to be forced into the hivemind too.

This makes a lot of sense. They will probably make it comical as he gets plurbed while being on the run.

Not even that, I like the Manousos theory, where sedation for a medical procedure opens up the perfect loophole (if there's no medical reason it would cause issues) to harvest STEM cells.

"Would you like to try rallycross? Maybe paragliding? Base jumping? Formula 1?" and if he crashes or has an injury, they're in. I mean especially if he breaks a bone or something, at that point it would be trivial to harvest (unless I'm mistaken).

Diabate is probably already converted. I expect everyone to get converted.

I’m preparing for Manousos to also get converted and Carol to be the only immune left so I don’t get my heart broken when it happens.

I think she'll go insane if she's 100% immune, even from the egg development.

If that's the path they explore I think it'd be heartbreaking. She's already so lonely :(.

How? How could they convert him before Carol unless he consented? And why would all that occur off-screen when they took the time to show us the Joining of a lesser character?

I bet they got his blood when they operated him, there was a scene of drops of blood from him.

Blood does not contain stem cells

Neither does eggs but hive is trying something called induced pluripotent stem cells (Zosia said that on mountain trip) which can be done from blood cells. Probably easier than from eggs.

    Are you talking about Manousos?

yea. i think they got his blood.

The stem cell thing is their first discovery they might figure out more stuff in later seasons. I bet in the last season nobody will be immune

The king of his own world? Never.

  • I think something people are loathe to admit in this sub is that they were wrong about Carol, people would say she’s the only good person left and how they love her and she’s so great, but she ended up being just like the others enjoying the hive and using them for her own pleasure. She only decides to save the world when she learns the fun is going to end

Carol is as flawed as Walt and Jimmy and just like those guys shouldn’t be looked up to or put on a pedestal neither should Carol

I mean it makes sense. Vince said originally the plan was for the lead to be a man but the writers kept going, “There will be too much sex.”

They changed it to a woman but just because Carol doesn’t want to have sex all the time with the plurbs doesn’t mean she is a saint when it comes to them either. I feel like we have seen this plenty of times before this episode as well

Was this in a podcast or something? I can't find it

I will try to find the video. I saw it on YouTube during an interview he did. It was in a YouTube short

Put Manousos on the pedestal! (for now 😅)

God's strongest soldier, we are praying for you Manousos!

I'm excited to see how the hive is going to break him next.

He may seem to have an indomitable spirit right now, but at the end of the day, he is still human, and the Hive will find a way to break him if their goal is to infect all the remaining immune. I'm intrigued to see what method they'll use considering Manny is a much tougher nut to crack than Carol was.

Being human isn't about breaking. It's about resisting breaking for as long as you are able to. History is full of people who died at their posts, never kneeling. Assuming everyone has a breaking point is as smart as assuming no one does.

Maybe the hive will get him. Maybe it won't. We'll have to see to know.

I think he may wind up taking the same place as Howard and Hank in this show: a difficult, complicated, unyielding foil who's ultimately doomed by the narrative.

The show has shown you Carol has been flawed since the very beginning….she has an almost anti-social attitude and is a raging alcoholic.

She only decides to save the world when she learns the fun is going to end

Don't get me wrong she's a flawed character and she's definitely had her fun with them but IMO what actually made her leave is she realized that that Zosia's form of "love" is incompatible with human love.

Humans have Eros, Philia, Storge - romantic, friendship, family. What zosia has is Agape, unconditional love for all of humanity *no matter what.* IMO, imagine you have a partner and no matter how horribly you mistreat them, they love you 100%. In some respects, that feels unearned, fake, and unnatural. It's human to fall out of love with someone who's not treating you right. That's what makes her love for her wife real, and her love for Zosia false.

More people hated carol since the beginning and called her a karen than loving her and putting her on a pedestal.

Everyone I've seen who says they liked Carol as a character, including me, liked her because she is flawed.

Half of this sub refused to admit that Carol had unlikeable character traits

While the other half of this sub only ever highlighted Carol's flaws and deliberately twisted every action of hers into something malicious. Manousos was worshipped for being anti-hive and stubborn, Carol was declared an unlikable bitch for being anti-hive and stubborn. The double standards are plain to see, don't play dumb please.

People never refused to admit Carol's flaws, they simply saw the character as something more than a "bitchy Karen", a phrase most of you love to say whenever you want to say something about Carol.

We also have a lot more backstory on Carol. The trip to the ice hotel, what she thinks of herself, her writing, and by association, her fans.

We don't know Manousos beyond the fact that he is incredibly protective, self-sufficient, recklessly stubborn, and he hates his mother. I can't wait to learn more about him.

I think Vince hasn't revealed more about Mano because he IS drawing a parallel to why we are so permissive of his behavior and so quick to judge Carol. No one is completely evil, no one is a saint.

For example, Mano leaves money and pays for everything he uses or takes. This is honorable to a point, but this also means he is transactional. To be worthy of needing something, he has to pay for it. Every time. This isn't inherently bad, but it can be toxic, especially when trying to form connections.

Cause the other half won't shut up about the unlikable traits like she the worst lead character on tv, your opinion isn't invalid or muted, in fact it's pervasive.

I do believe she is 100% flawed, but unlike Walt and Jimmy, this will be a story about a morally grey person becoming better, not worse. I know Jimmy confesses at the very end, but it’s not a story about him becoming a better person step by step, only at the end does he do the right thing.

This. It also makes narrative sense. We've seen Carol at some very low points in this season and it would serve as a good origin story for a "positive" character arc. For me, it's much more interesting watching a protagonist like that than a "flawless" one.

I do not think she is remotely comparable to Walt and Jimmy but she is very flawed yes. Vince has said he doesn’t want to write an evil anti-hero for this show. Jimmy and Walt are evil anti-heroes, Carol is flawed but still ultimately has good intentions

  • Hate is a strong word. I felt like his actions during this whole ordeal is ethically iffy and Carol kind of just puts it behind her as well

  • If they hadn't stolen her eggs with intent to transform her, she would have just stayed in the fantasy I'm sure.

  • season 2 is going to be recruiting diabate, season 3 will be adding laxmi. calling it RIGHT HERE

you peobably mean diabate, because manousos is already part of the gang; hes the OG

Imagine Manousos meeting and working with Diabate … lol

I think Laxmi will be in the group by Season 2.

Half the season will be Carol and Laxmi staring daggers at each other lol.

And it's going to be amazing

Lord give me an all-Laxmi episode 🙏🧎‍♂️‍➡️

Imagine her reaction to her hive son if she ever got out of her denial like Carol did with Zosia…

Laxmi is such an interesting character, I like her more than I like Carol lol I hope she is in the main cast next season

Nah, I think they are going to make significant progress in conversion at some point between 2-3 manusos is working crazy fast. I think we’ll get introduced to a new character, the first unplurbed who will also be able to tell us more about being disconnected

  • There's also literally a shot of her in a bubble bath with them. After her initial indignation at the thought of living in a fantasy world and having the others behave as sex slaves, she fully adopts the fantasy world and orders Zosia around like a slave.

When she pulled on Zosia’s arm, kind of reminding us of that moment where she learned Zosia’s name and had to “okay” her leaving with Diabate. Going from being so flabbergasted by that to doing it herself. Tsk tsk

  • I like all these parallels being drawn with her and him. Her EP9 actions really PMO.

“She is my …. Chaperone “ ??? Like wth lock tf in! You know what’s going on! You called it that the whole Zosia thing is a manipulation… what are we doing here?

They have all the best minds in the world working on joining you… that’s how they figured out the stemcell bit. Even without the eggs, they were bound to find another way that didn’t require consent.

She lost all respect in ep9… because clearly she hasn’t been able to come to any of these conclusions

Does that make her more real? She was told “we won‘t stem cells from your body” and she heard “we won’t take your stem cells” and immediately let her guard down. Would it make sense for her to be as smart or as dedicated as the hive? She’s just a romance novelist.

all i know is i liked viewing the story through carol’s eyes more when she was working against the others.

i think her reaction was human and real, but because we saw how she acted in episode 2, her hypocrisy was just a liittttle too copy and pasted and lacking of the carol sturka nuance that i got used to. i expected her to have something new to say instead of what we heard laxmi and the others saying.

and perhaps the whole point is that she really is just like everyone else, only a bit worse at being happy, but… idk. maybe they’re trying to show that she has already lost herself a bit by spending so much time living a seemingly perfect life with zosia, which is fair, but. idk the whole middle of the episode just felt like watching someone get brainwashed into joining a cult that they know damn well is up to no good. infuriating in a bad way at times

felt like watching someone get brainwashed into joining a cult

No one is immune to this, especially the vulnerable.

to be fair being immune is sorta carol’s thing!

but for the sake of story i do, regardless of realism, just find the plot more interesting when the characters are adversarial toward the hive

She's definitely overpowered in that regard lol.

I'm good with both. Carol falling for Plurb'd Zosia was compelling, especially with what she went through during the season, and her being adversarial in the early episodes just as compelling and also funny.

Maybe. Last episode is literally her calling it that she was being manipulated. She knows Zosia is only there to stop her from researching them. Or atleast she seemed to know. Then we get yuri and boom, she doesn’t want to save the world anymore and is really mean to Manuosos. Now she just wants to live out her time with this entity that has made it clear to her that to it, she’s drowning and must be saved.

So yeah maybe it makes her more real but it makes her a dumber and more selfish variant of the character she’s been all show… basically Diabate

Then we get yuri and boom, she doesn’t want to save the world anymore

But it's like... What can she do? She tried to do some investigating and found out about the cannibalism and that rug was pulled from right under her immediately. She doesn't know hard sciences and wouldn't even considering trying radio signals. We don't even know what caused Manousos to look into it. And I'm really curious about that.

    >we dont even know what caused Manousos to look into it

Probably just searching radio frequencies for signs of other "survivors." Any HAM enthusiest I've met had put that same strategy as part of thier survival/rescue plan in the event of disaster.

But that's the thing, why didn't he say anything on those thousands of frequences? That's most likely why he did it, I agree, but it was odd.

I dont remember seeing broadcast equipment, but he could still be searching for a signal from someone else.

He's paranoid and keeping a low profile. He's bunkered down with the windows blocked out. I think he's just listening because he doesn't want to draw attention to himself.

    Her EP9 actions really PMO

    Project Management Organization?

piss me off 🫡 (if it was a genuine q)

I think you’re being too hard on her by saying she lost all your respect… the way I saw it was the writers knew that this early would be a good point for Carol to really drink the koolaid—after she had been manipulated by the hive into feeling so lonely for 40 days that she begs them back and falls in love with Zosia. They figured narratively this was a good chance to show what happens if unlikable Carol just gave happiness a shot… and subsequently knew that the conclusion here would be a point of no return once Carol learns that they can force her to join without her consent. With that in mind, there will never be a chance for the writers to explore Carol in this mode, so this had to be the time. Now that they’ve gotten it out of the way, Carol is likely to be only focused on the cause, same as Manousos

  • I really liked the scene where she leaves along with the hive and her car visually lines up with the hundreds of plurb cars driving away from Albuquerque while Manuosos watches. Reminded me of the shot from episode 1 where Carol watches everybody in her neighborhood leave at the same time.

  • One thing I’ve never seen anyone discuss, and maybe I’m just missing something obvious, but who is Diabate talking to on the phone when Carol is sleeping in his suite? I think he calls them “love” (?)

    …The hive bro

People think he secretly has a wife and kids hidden somewhere.

He says "...my loves". He's talking to the hive. Doesn't matter which individual.

Probably his current favorite groupie from the hive. Maybe John Cena lmao

  • I could not stand Carol at all. I get she got basically trauma from being completely isolated for 40 days and said fuck it and just rolled with it like Diabate. But the whole episode she was acting like a complete idiot, completely contradicting the way she's been the whole season. It was a very very disappointing finale for me and I hope I can get to like her again. I guess I will, but damn this episode let me down.

I think it's only contradicting if you viewed her from the lens of her former actions being purely selfless. I'm sure she wants to save people but a larger part of what motivated her was returning to some sense of normalcy.

So what does a character who just wants normalcy do when the biggest threat is seemingly removed, and there's no way to undo the change? you adapt and take what you can.

I think she's not wholly meant to be likable. She's got a DUI breathalyzer in her car, it's made clear from the get go she's got really selfish tendencies.

The liquor cabinet sensor reveal was tough to see

  • Nice. I see Ep 9 as an inversion of Carol's interaction with the other immune in ep 2.

Carol came in hot, hell bent on reversing the joining while the others were more sympathetic / apathetic. Fast forward to episode 9 where Manusos is basically ep 2 Carol and Carol is now the one who is sympathetic to the hive.

  • How long will this post be allowed? 🤣

  • Manousos is my hero not Carol. I do not find her likeable and that is maybe by design. They better not kill my boy Manousos.

Right? My prediction is that at some point the hive will find a way to Plurb him but hopefully that happens toward the end and Carol can get him and everyone else out. Really hope he doesn’t die.
