1. if only.

le sigh.

  • Yeah, lol. Pluribus s2 and Severance s3 likely in a few months of each other will be something. Just a long wait until then :(

I've got 6 shows I'm waiting for on Apple alone and it sucks knowing they're all not coming back anytime soon

We need the hive working at Apple...

    They can’t make art

Nah, they’d all be apologetics starring John Cena.

    What are they

Pluribus, Severance, Ted Lasso, Trying, Silo and Dark Matter

Dark Matter was insane. I need S2 asap.

I’m into sci-fi so the title alone catches my eye, what’s it about? I really liked Silo.

It’s about a machine that can quantum entangle a whole person and allow them to enter all realities. The first season effectively follows the same story as the book it’s based on, so a season 2 would be new material.

    Severance, Murderbot, Pluribus, now this?

    sigh

I'm never cancelling my Apple TV subscription, am I...

Try Foundation, get hooked even deeper 😄 at least you’ll have 3 seasons to enjoy, sigh…

For All Mankind as well. They really do slow burn sci fi well at Apple.

Too many words to say that it’s a multiverse of Jennifer Connelly

    Yummy. Requiem for a Dream.Traffic(?).

Man invents alternate reality machine, gets kidnapped by another version of himself so he must travel through hundreds of realities to get back to his. Meanwhile the other version of himself steals his life which he finds ideal. Really good show.

Was S2 greenlit? I liked that it ended a story arc and set up a neat premise for s2 without making it mandatory (The Peripheral 🤬). It was definitely better than “good enough sci-fi”.

Yes it is. I think they already started shooting or are about to.

Ditto on the Peripheral. Failing to do Season 2 for that was a crime against humanity.

The book is great! You and anyone who liked the Dark Matter show might like other books by Blake Crouch. Fun yet stressful, and at times very sad sci-fi.

I am in the opinion that a new season for Ted Lasso is a mistake. It had a really good ending, and anything more to add will probably just ruin it.

Hopefully it’ll be more of a spin-off than an attempt at continuing the plot.

Rebecca apparently buys a woman's team and brings him in as a coach. So most of the players shouldn't be returning. Pretty sure Juno Temple is coming back as Keeley too. Not sure about the coaches since at least one of them should probably still be coaching the Greyhounds

Apparently this time the conflict will come from Ted having to connect with a group of female athletes since he's over most of the culture clash and differences of the game itself

Give Slow Horses a try; you might like it.

    Let’s not also forget Foundation!

And For All Mankind and Star City!

Ted Lasso is going to get another season? Awesome, didn't know that!

Lasso is supposed to come this year I believe, they've been filming already

With the sci-fi bent there I might suggest trying Foundation, it starts slow but Lee Pace is amazing and I love it. For All Mankind is also an interesting alternate history, but season 3 took a soapier turn that some viewers dislike, though I feel like 4 moved back away from some of the stupid character decisions

You can add Foundation to that merry list! 😭😄

All these shows are great, slow horses could’ve been in the list but it’s S5 just ended before pluribus, so I don’t think we can get its next season anytime soon

Damn you! I forgot all about Silo 😭 and I was doing just fine. Now im obligated to check when the new season should be coming; so I can become disappointed.

    Trying!! Yes please

It’s honestly not a bad strategy for them. They must be getting consistent viewership when the episodes drop as they have been, and with two shows to look forward to (2 at least.. looking at you, The Studio.) I think they’ve given people a lot to look forward to.

And Apple isn’t exactly gunghow to cancel shows right now, so I think it’s safe to say we’re in for a ride in the next few years.

Guess I’ll have to start going to the gym again… 😮‍💨

We are glad you are experiencing gains, Plymptonia.

  • On the most recent episode of The Watch podcast where Rhea and Vince were interviewed (great interview btw), Vince said they've just started to have a pretty good idea of what the first episode will be. It's gonna be a long wait, folks...

Which is funny because he had an s2 guaranteed from the start. And they’re just getting around to thinking about it?

I am not naive enough to think I know more than people who write television shows for a living, or Vince Gilligan, who has found a lot of success in what he does.

yep it’s just like that, you nailed it. vince should really hire some reddit know-it-alls, they’d help him become successful!

Writing a show and pre-production take a lot of time. They can’t just pick it up instantly after finishing S1

I’m aware it takes a long time. But if you know you’ve got a 2 season order from the start, one would think you’d have started thinking about s2’s direction at some point before the end of s1

They could very well be writing the screenplay all this time. Writing scripts takes a long time (source: my mom works in the film industry)

Then they aren’t just getting around to thinking about it.

It'd be a mistake to think Vince Gilligan doesn't know what he's doing. Breaking bad was handled in the same way; they had a rough idea for the ending (Walt becomes a drug kingpin then dies) and probably some notes they wanted to hit along the way, but they also delighted in writing themselves into corners and figuring things out organically and on the fly.

In the cold open of season 5 episode 1, when we get a flash-forward of Walt at Dennys, months after hanks death and Walt being outed as heisenburg, he goes out to his trunk and you see he has a giant fucking machinegun. When that episode aired, Vince had no idea how the machine gun would end up being used, they were still trying to figure that part out. They knew they wanted it to be something techy and nerdy, some kind of contraption or other, but weren't sure why or how Walt would end up using it. Vince has total confidence in his ability to discover and adapt story threads in real time, just let him cook.

That’s quite the complete opposite of what Vince himself had been saying during his media rounds this week in regards to the gun in BB.

    https://youtube.com/shorts/TGu1aSTqtR8?si=prwKl5UON49lT3oL

He may have been annoyed that he did it, he was frustrated trying to solve the puzzle of the machinegun. But the episode did air before any actual plan for the machinegun had been put into place, and they did pull it off and use it in a fantastic way in the finale.

This isn't the only example of Vince handling writing and plot points in this way. Maybe he felt like he bit off more than he could chew in this specific instance, but he did eventually manage to swallow it, and just because that specific scenario worried him doesn't mean he doesn't still employ that technique.

Especially as Apple doesn’t actually produce the content. They buy the rights for their platform while funding some of the production. In “Pluribus”‘ case:

Pluribus, the sci-fi drama from Vince Gilligan, is produced by Sony Pictures Television, with Gilligan serving as an executive producer alongside others like Gordon Smith and Jeff Frost, and it streams on Apple TV+”

I can’t believe that when him along with many others pushed out great shows on a yearly basis. Majority of the greatest shows all came back on yearly basis; sopranos, wire, breaking bad, better call Saul, Fargo, Warrior, banshee, boardwalk empire, dark winds, I mean we can go on. I don’t understand what’s the difference now. What happened? Especially when quality, writing and budget all seem to have gone down, not all but with the majority.

I mean, getting close to choosing the season 2 opening doesn’t mean they just started thinking about it. I’d assume it’s a lot of work just to get there. They likely map out the entire season before writing individual episodes.

He likes to learn from other people's interpretation of the events.

You have to understand. This show is character driven. It's not a long wait, it's intended space to give you time to digest the story properly. /s

Brb writing “come back” on the street

Exactly. There's plenty of other shows you can watch if you want to be able to see the next episode. But having to wait 2 years for an episode is the whole point of a show like this. People are so addicted to their phones they don't even know how to wait 2 years for something anymore...

Network cable shows used to have 20 episode seasons with a spring and fall season, now we get 8-12 episodes once every 2 years.

This isn't a "these young wippersnappers can't stay off their phones" argument as much as it is a response to higher production costs and a different distribution platform.

    You CAN NOT be serious

He doesn't own Apple. It's his show but the studio dictates operating schedules for the most part.

What’s that have to do with just now thinking about s2?

Because Apple dictates when the writer's room opens, not Vince Gilligan. They are currently writing season 2.

I don’t think you are correct about that. But maybe.

Who's paying the bills? Apple is. Vince can't pay an entire writing staff from his own bank account.

Apple has given Vince $15mill/episode for a guaranteed 2 seasons to tell his story. From there I figured him and his EP’s figure out the rest.

They don't just give them $15 million dollars lol. Everything is charged or sent through to accounting for payment. Like pay cheques.

And how’s that mean Apple dictates when the writers room opens? They’ve given Vince a budget. Not sure Tim Cook has people on his staff scheduling the ongoing machinations of a tv shows writers room.

    1. Sure he could. 2. The Studio doesn’t usually dictate to show runners. Especially not Apple TV.
  • I think streamers have realized that once a year cadence was best. Some shows have started doing it again, and it is totally possible. Fallout is back.

Fallout took 20 months between the end of the first season and the start of the second. Same timeframe would put Pluribus season 2 around September 2027.

This is a terrible example to use. Fallout season 1 started production in 2021-2022, two+ years before it actually aired. Season 2 came so 'quickly' because it began production before season 1 had even aired.

But they've already been renewed for season 3, and will start filming a lot earlier than season 2 did. That should get the next gap down below 18 months hopefully, for a mid 2027 release.

The Pitt is also back after one year only

The creators of The Pitt have also specifically said that they are trying to bring back the concept of “new season every year”. Granted, The Pitt doesn’t require as much editing as some of these other shows (specifically with CGI), it’s largely shot in 1 location, and it is a show format taken from cable TV (medical drama), but I love that they are making a push to normalize the classic season schedule again.

    I love this.

I think a lot of shows will go to the old format again since they realized a lot of people start to lose interest on two year waits.

And as far as CGI goes, I don’t know man, the CGI in GOT Season 6 was fantastic, same goes for swason 7. And they were released a year apart.

Then they started the stupid ass two year wait for season 8 only to botch the last season anyway.

I hold GOT creators responsible for the two year wait + shorter seasons we now get

Totally agree that they hold some accountability. Kind of like Twilight and Harry Potter started to the trend of splitting the last movie of a franchise into two parts.

Important to note, no big stars either which makes it really hard for tv shows with big actors to happen fast. (Pluribus doesn’t have this problem either)

Scope, ambition, quality and vision could take a massive blow though! But its not the same as it were years ago. There is so many new shows nowdays so you tend to almost forget your favorite show if it lingears to long 😔 Im looking at you three body problem!

No? It is better for everyone if they keep the same writers employed. Delaying for years is what leads to quality problems IMO. Streaming decimated writers rooms by removing their stability.

No show takes multiple years to make a season of.

Part of me is confident that a new equilibrium will be found and we'll get yearly releases again, but another part of me knows it'll take a while because all the big streamers and cable channels still in the game are busy buying each other, destroying their incentive to do any work or investing in artists.

I beg to differ! There is a reason that for example severence second season came out after three whole years. What they delivered was top tier. I don’t know the quality of fall out though but If it all becomes almost like a “ machine “ with tight deadlines the output will most likely suffer. The team needs to cook!

The fact that there’s dozens of shows that released new seasons yearly before streaming refutes your point.

    Were they goat status though?

Yes we used to get amazing TV shows released yearly with 10 or more episodes per season. Most of them were HBO shows like The Sopranos or Game of Thrones but other cable networks had great shows release a new season per year like Mad Men, Homeland, The Shield and a bunch more

Idk man, after 3 years of waiting i would expect s2 of severance to be better than s1, and it clearly wasn't

    Somebody forgot about COVID

Yeah, Pluribus was a masterpiece. Can’t wait for grass growing arc in 2028

I wouldn’t say "realised" as I don’t really believe they were doing that on purpose. It was just the pandemic, then the SAG and writers’ strike, recovering after the long hiatus, a bunch of show picking up at the same time, etc. It’s not like the procedures were purposefully delaying their shows and slowing down their production. The goal has always been to film new seasons as quick as they can, but there were a lot of factors that impeded them from doing so

Yeah, has anyone noticed that the marketing team for Stranger Things 5 was doing their best to hype the show up everywhere, but the public reaction was... kind of meh? People are watching I guess, but no one is meming, no one is chatting around the virtual watercooler. I havent even started it yet, I keep telling myself :"Ill get to is soon i guess". I WANT to be excited, but they waited too damn long.

This. I literally don't care. It's been so long I feel like I would need to watch the whole thing again to really enjoy the final season, but I don't have the time, so the new season will probably go unwatched.

I loved Pluribus, but is another season worth waiting three years for? Honestly, no.

It's happening with a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - the second series is well into filming, so it probably should be coming out late 2026/early 2027

Best for the viewer, I’m sure they’re aware. But the longer they’re able to string out their hit shows the “stickier” their subscribers get. They don’t need to have many quality shows this way.

    what about the pitt

  • Wait is season one over? Yesterday’s episode was the finale? lol

Yup. Episode 9 was the season finale. They‘re in the writers room working on season 2 with an expected 2027 release date.

Where did it say expected 2027?

Based on what we know now, the timeline of production would lead to filming in 2026 and post production early 2027 for a mid-late 2027 release date.

Hence we can expect it around 2027 for now.

Well shit. Guess I gotta stay alive until then.

le sigh... guess i wont wrap my car around a tree for a lil bit smh..

    I expect it

I do too lol I was just wondering if the production team said anything.

The screenshot in this pose says 2026? What do you mean 2027?? 😭

Anyone can edit IMDB, so while the screenshot says 2026, that’s not official.

yep. i rly thought theyd make it a nice even 10 ep.

9 is a number they like for their new big shows it seems. Your Friends and Neighbors got 9 for season 1 too. I'm wondering if it's because of how many shows they launch with two episodes released at once

You sure they’re not going to drop episode 10 on New Year’s Eve or something? That didn’t feel like a finale 😕

I remember they were really hyping up the finale.

It’d be a wicked move if they actually did that.

  • i just hope we get it next year, i don't wanna wait 2027

  • Friendly reminder that any registered user at IMDb can change release dates (amongst other things). Also in a recent interview, when asked if production could start May 2026, Vince said it's unlikely.

  • I had stopped watching currently airing series, and I started again with this one—bad idea. By the time it comes back on, I've already lost interest. The same thing happened to me with Severance...

My friend refuses to watch current shows. He will wait years until the show ends.

I'm your friend, I literally only watch miniseries or shows that have ended already. I started this one because for some reason I thought it was going to be a miniseries lol should've known better...

Me too. It’s my biggest issue. Happened to me with the Boys too.

I had to rewatch half of season to make myself get invested in the story again. It was such a long gap.

  • That episode was always on IMDb site, from the start, I've hoped that this season will have a secret episode ten hidden by the producers. It would have been a great way for Vince to end the season.. he has no imagination :)))

  • Oh, AppleTV you sweaty heart. I was scared there for a second thinking I’ll have to wait until 2028 to get season 2

  • Why does it take 3 years to make 9 episodes?

They used to make 24 episodes every single year. I understand streaming is a different business model than network television, but the time-frames seem excessive.

  • When will shooting start for s2.

Vince said they hope to start filming this summer with a first quarter 2027 release date.

this is the worst news ever

That’s a little over a year? That’s not 2 years. This sounds good? Comparatively to other shows.

Do you have a source for that? All I've seen is that the writer's room is working now and rumours are saying that production starts in Spring.

  • It’s definitely 2027

  • I was hoping Pluribus was going to follow in the footsteps of Slow Horses and come out every year.

  • I'll absolutely eat my hat if this is true

I hope you'll eat your hat.

Not because you'd have to do that, I just want more Plurbin'.

Same here, I'm already thinking up hat recipes

  • season 1 filming was from Feb-Sep 2024 and came out Nov 2025, so i'm gonna assume the same schedule and go with late 2027...goddamn

  • IMDB high on hopium. As if tv shows nowadays have the next season ready in a year. End of 2027 is my guess.

  • This was there before episode 1 aired. I was fundamentally cutting off all spolirer, discussion youtubers who were saying ti was 9 episodes long becuase Carol was billed in 10 episodes, everyone else was 9... :(

  • It could've said '2027'

  • Why is everyone 10000% certain the next season won’t come out next year?

  • This show is very practical, little VFX. It also has just a handful of shooting locations. Logistically, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to turn around another season in a years time vs. some other infamously long-lead shows

  • My season 2 pitch:

Zosia shows up at Carol's door with a can of plurb-mist. Carol brandishes her handheld nuke detonator and Zosia has a seizure, dropping the can of plurb. Carol detonates the bomb as she feels her brain and personality dissolving. Carol, Zosia, Manousos, Larry the cycling MAMIL, DHL nuke procurement guy, His Honor Mayor of Albuquerque and yard cleanup, and Bri the nonconsensual coffee shop waitress.. are all vaporized instantly

Hive completes construction of the antenna and propagates the plurb signal to billions more worlds, turning the galaxy into a uniform mega-hive mind, where individuality has been erased

    The End

  • 2026?? Thank the gods.. Someone's finally going to break this stupid 6 episode season/ 2 years curse.

I just read an interview with Vince claiming FILMING may not start until 2027 meaning we won’t get a second season til 2028

You guys reallllllllly need to start posting sources to your claims. I’ve seen at least three different timelines from what people “read or saw”

  • Most boring show ever

    TikTok brain :/

Not even relevant to this post.
