Picture from the Hot Metal Bridge before the march. Doesnt exactly due it justice. Probably had 2 or 3 thousand people at its peak. A really nice showing despite how cold it was
It was a genuine display of community, well organized by Indivisible and others, respectful to Renee Good and others who have died at the hands of ICE agents. The City of Pgh did an excellent job maintaining the traffic and calmly just staying in the background, letting a peaceful protest take place. 👏
Sometimes you can have flags in random places, I have a Greek flag I was given years ago that happens to make for a great curtain. With any luck that flag will stay a curtain
So proud of Yinzers for standing up against this evil administration. I remember seeing anti-trump protests in this very street back in 2016.
I lived in this same apartment complex a decade back (not mentioning the name so I avoid doxxing you OP!) and it’s so nostalgic to see it after so many years.
Before we’re done it will be damn near 15 years of this endless goddamn bullshit. Can I get my 15 years of this fucking fuck back? (Hat tip George Carlin).
It's not really yinzers. True yinzers moved out of the city limits to the townships in outer limits of the metropolitan area decades ago where they can pay a third of the local income tax and afford a much larger home than their money can buy inside the city. Basically getting to frequently use the infrastructure and services available in town but getting out of having to financially support it. They very much hate this protest and see it as un-American. Ironic yes, but thats how they feel.
I’m a yinzer, living within city limits, that participated in this protest. The people that love this city are here for life and will stand with our neighbors. Fuck Trump and Fuck ICE.
For anyone going to the protests, turn off your Wi-Fi, turn off your Bluetooth, turn off your GPS, turn off mobile data and then put your phone in airplane mode or turn it OFF altogether. Wear COVID masks and sunglasses. They WILL be tracking you via Stingray and/or Flock.
Don't give those assholes any more data than they already have.
It's a fact they track IMSI numbers at these protests. Stay safe!
If you regularly attend protests, I suggest investing in a Faraday bag. Go Dark Bags is one option but there are many. I've yet to find them locally here (to avoid a paper trail) but if someone does find them, I'd love a suggestion.
If you're worried about being tracked, there's already dragnet facial recognition via "license plate readers" (they're just cameras feeding video streams to remote servers for machine learning and image recognition.) Your phone may make it easier for them to track you, but they have many non-device based means that already track everyone, constantly.
Edit: If it's convenient for you to leave your devices at home and are really paranoid, go for it. But you're still being tracked. Going to the protest and being tracked a bit more is better than just not going at all, for me.
I don't drive, I need to use the bus to get to most protests - tracking (I pay with my phone.) I'll need to use my phone to find/grab a bus back home, too. More tracking. I live alone, so if I need to coordinate with someone, I need my phone. It's so inconvenient without, I probably wouldn't be able to attend at all. All for a marginal increase in privacy? I'm gonna skip that hassle.
Arm yourselves too. It’s perfectly legal and it works. Even the playing field. Google the video of the black panther in philly recently and his interaction with the pigs.
I totally disagree with this advice. We need less fear and more action. All of your advice is predicated on fear of a totalitarian surveillance state but that's not where we are at this point. Fear the last thing we need to be preaching. We're sliding toward fascist autocracy but we are no where close to what (for example) the Iranian government is doing -- and yet the streets of Tehran are full of people showing their faces and carrying phones. They DNGAF. The could teach us a thing or two about courage right now.
We need to get 200 million people in the streets boldly showing their faces and having the courage to stand up in public. The "real" is more important that the digital... even in 2026. We're still just animals. Fuck the machines. Fuck the algorithms. Fuck the tech bro oligarchs and the fuckwit obsequious followers.
We need to walk and act like human beings. Living free is a political act. Live like it's 1973 and you're in a liberal democracy governed by laws and due process -- rather than playing like we're in North Korea. That false belief breeds fear and leads people to cower.
We will not change hearts and win supporters hiding behind fear and balaclavas.
It's not fear it's smart. You can still protest without willfully giving out your personal details. If you haven't noticed, with this regime, it can and will be used against you. Even the stuff you consider mundane. Meta Data adds up. If you wanna be willfully ignorant that's on you, go right ahead. It's not like I'm giving out dangerous advice. It's obvious you don't know much about tech and I'm not gonna argue with you.
This wasn't the type of protest that was going to get violent, I don't think there is any reason to fear being tracked here, no more than being tracked anywhere else.. There were a number of families with small kids here.
There is way too much fear out there and too little courage.
My theory is the people who spend all day in the cyber sphere start thinking the digital is more important than the "real". I'm not ignorant of what the government could be doing with digital data; But I'm also aware that the majority of the country hates these MAGA fascists. My risk assessment is that they should be fearing us, not the other way around.
Fear is the real enemy. Stand up and take the streets. Speak up and create a better world.
And every ICE agent who has joined in the last year. ICE used to be (relatively) sympathetic to immigrants, and Bovino and his former Border Patrol lackies took over and made ICE what it is now.
Fun fact, ICE is actually younger than I am in my mid twenties. It was formed in 2003. It's not an integral part of this country, and after all of this, it should be gone.
Funner fact it used to be the INS they just added customs enforcement to it slick. You have no idea what you are talking about. INS was doing the same shit in the 80’s and has always done immigration raids.
Even funner fact immigration enforcement is in the first article of the constitution, section 8. So yeah immigration control is pretty important to this country and every other one. Google it and stop quoting TikTok.
Which part? "To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization, and uniform Laws on the subject of Bankruptcies throughout the United States?" All that's saying is that Congress has the power to establish naturalization laws. Immigration enforcement was actually broadly a states rights issue until 1876 in Chy Lung v. Freeman that the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government can create and enforce rules regarding immigration. 100 years into the country's 250 year history. ICE, INS, whatever- it isn't BAKED into the constitution like you seem to think it is. INS was created in 1933, in living memory.
And, come to think of it. . . presidents can have significant power to influence immigration enforcement, but the Supreme Court's ruling about the article you mentioned specifically states it is CONGRESS' ultimate authority. And Trump has, among other things, restricted the access of members of Congress to visit ICE facilities unannounced, which they were allowed to do prior. Which, coincidentally, was blocked by a federal judge a month ago, but Noem is ignoring all forms of governance right now and still limits visits anyhow. Other parts of the Constitution are being ignored by the administration and ICE, like, oh, I don't know. . . the Fifth and Fifteenth Amendments.
Immigration law is evil and needs serious reform. But whatever few protections and processes exist in the INA and Constitution (because yes, ICE is also illegally targeting CITIZENS like Renee Good, who are protected by the Constitution) are currently being trampled illegally by Trump. Trump, Noem, Bovino, and anyone else who made this happen should be PROSECUTED and ICE should be abolished. GTFOH.
Well I'd say the issue has been completely out of control thanks to the last administration. Where's the sympathy for everyone the dems tossed out? The children? The crime? The fatalities? Its 💯 out of balance.
You can use this website to find protest dates and locations. They also have resources.
https://www.mobilize.us/
You may want to consider getting an app that will upload videos if you want to record any law enforcement. Cop Watch Video Recorder is $1.99 on Google play store.
I get why they are protesting but why all the pride flags? There seems to be more of them than anything else and it keeps tying LGBTQAI+ issues to other issues that are not at all related beyond the same group of people against them. I mean maybe solidarity but I don't agree with everything they are protesting about so my pride flag I hang proudly from my front porch makes it look like I support all that stuff too.
Pretty sure it's because of what happened with ICE in Minnesota. Renee Good was a wlw and had a wife so I think it is for solidarity for her and a remembrance of her as she did at an ICE protest.
Yes, she was a lesbian, see this is what troubles me, to me she was a person. I don't say hello I'm Roger a bi-sexual male I just say hello I'm Roger. This was a human who was murdered by ICE and that agent should be in jail for killing her. Who she loved, her past...don't care she was murdered and their needs to be justice. ICE didn't gun her down because she was a lesbian they gunned her down because she was standing up against them and the bullshit tactics they are using.
Yes she was a person but also flying to flag to honor one of our community members who died at the hands of a government agent is/ was a big thing in LGBT history. So I totally understand why people had their pride flags as part of the protest. It's a way to remember and honor her and show solidarity in our community. But also continues the trend of the LGBT community being there for our neighbors.
Because her sexuality has been a pushing point for why she "deserved" it. On Fox News they even pulled out the "with pronouns in her bio". The interconnection between her identity and how she was killed will forever exist and it will be used to demonize more people should they be killed like she was. That's why people want to show that they are both queer and anti-ice. They are here and they are alive. They will stand with their queer friends, family, and community members.
If you're afraid of it "looking like you support all that stuff too" you're far too concerned about what other people think of you to be hanging the flag off the balcony anyway in my opinion.
There has been a lot of chatter that the murder was a hate crime because the agent was triggered by the couple. Lots of people have been making that make sense.
I mean, sure, possible they worked out she was a lesbian and that was her wife but it just feels more like they killed her for getting in way of their war against decency and human rights vs. her being a lesbian.
Were you aware that his ex wife left him for a woman about six months previously? And that he has over 30 counts of unauthorized force on his record? This wasn't about anyone getting in his way.
Of the people killed by ice she is the only white person. Her orientation may certainly have had a role in his decision. It may not have but somehow I think it was a factor. Plenty of people including white women have gotten in their way or tried to. So why this one? Her words were polite right before he decided to kill her. "I'm not made at you".
My husband and I got super blocked and turned around today heading towards south side and I COULDNT BE MORE PGH PROUD!! I’ll gladly reroute 20 minutes any day for a protest against this regime. We even stopped by for a bit, talked to people, yelled a bit. Thank you everyone for showing up and making a bit of noise on a freezing Sunday afternoon.
Could someone explain what was accomplished, wouldn't it be more effective to meet with federal government representatives or national politician? What are our representatives doing? Summer Lee, Deluso, Federman.
99% unemployed SNAP benefit holders and or can’t find anything useful to do.

We should also help ETA’s lawsuit for a recount of the 2024 election for Allegheny County. Significant anomalies have happened and we need an investigation just as much as we need to keep protesting against ICE, Impeachment, and this illegitimate regime.
We honestly “in theory” should not even be protesting ICE because ETA is saying another person should be president right now, who would not have enforced ICE. (As what data is suggesting.) A recount would show if the data they’re collecting is true or not into election fraud.
Cool, how does shooting an American citizen help that? Or attacking a high school? Plenty of democrats would agree if it was done legitimately.. this is beyond fucked up, and your ignorance is killing American citizens.

It was brutal by the end lol. So proud to be part of this city today.
Where did someone find a Greenland flag so quick? lmao
Amazon sells one and can have it to you via prime in two days.
They had a 5x8 too it looked like! Im jealous his flags bigger than mine
I hear it’s more about how you wave it
I think it’s the perfect size
No irony in buying a protest flag on Amazon
Good for them, I can’t get shit in 2 days from Amazon Prime anymore! 🤣
Sometimes you can have flags in random places, I have a Greek flag I was given years ago that happens to make for a great curtain. With any luck that flag will stay a curtain
With better luck you’ll take a cruise to Greece and wave it out your balcony to say hi.
Flag Factory in Castle Shannon?
Pittsburgh has no space for bigotry.
We also won’t tolerate Hunts Ketchup
I’ve been seriously pissed lately that my Giant Eagle down here in McMurray has no Heinz pickles anymore. WTF is that about? SHAME!

I’m moving there soon! This makes me so happy!
Be sure to checkout reddit Minneapolis and twin cities. There are many videos of how ICE is interacting with the public.
It’s legit terrifying
Saw one I swear I almost punched my tv
You should have. You'd be smarter without one

Faraday Bag.
Or just leave your phone at home. Bring a camera with no internet connection.
Good advice. Also turn off Face ID/fingerprint
Yes I agree 💯 , Pin passcode is the way to go. I'll be at this protest, and any others that pop up and that's exactly how I do things.
If you regularly attend protests, I suggest investing in a Faraday bag. Go Dark Bags is one option but there are many. I've yet to find them locally here (to avoid a paper trail) but if someone does find them, I'd love a suggestion.

Or, don't be afraid of who you are and what you stand for.
Both polar opposites are valid and okay. To each their own! The larger the opposition the better.
Sure but I'm not going to voluntarily give them my data. That's such a ridiculous line of thought.
This isn't the 1800's and your comment shows how ignorant you are as to how your data can be used against you.
I'll focus on my safety and the safety of others. But you do you! Be safe out there is all I'm saying.

Deport her to some random violent nation you’ve never heard of to one of their “finest” prisons.
Rock on Pittsburgh. Just visited your awesome city for the first time last week. Loved it and love you guys. Go Pens.
Bravo everyone who attended in South Side.
Damn I would’ve been there .. didn’t know it was happening.. I live a block over
Proud to have been a part of this!!!
Hell yes
Way to go!!
Please share this in the Minnesota subreddit! They love the encouragement and seeing the support nation wide
I tried! But unfortunately I don't have enough of something to be allowed to post in that community. 😞
You need more gravitas
That means balls right fellas?
I think cajones means balls
I support this!!
Proud to be a yinzer! Proud of you guys!
Ain't No Time To Hate
Best city in the world
I love how butthurt the trump supporters are.
This makes me proud to be a Pittsburgher. I wish I could've made it out today.
F Ice and F DJT. We dont need no jagoffs here!
No, other countries are not our chess pieces to take.
We love to see it. Fuck ICE
Where do we find out about these events?
/r/50501Pittsburgh is a good resource

Indivisible Pittsburgh is often an organizer of these; 50501 is another.
I have seen some pop-up on Facebook but other than that I'm not sure. I found out about this when I heard it outside.
Love my Burgh.
All the paid trolls are out in force on Reddit today

they gunned her down because she was standing up against them *and* because of her apparent identities
So you don’t agree with protesting ice and the killing of an innocent citizen? Wtf?
What pride flags?
You can see them in the video and you really see them in the photo someone posted to this thread.
I can't make em out in the video.
Looked for this photo you mentioned and I saw like 3.
Because her sexuality has been a pushing point for why she "deserved" it. On Fox News they even pulled out the "with pronouns in her bio". To be fair the woman that was murdered, in front of her wife, was part of that community. Quite possibly also making this a hate crime.

Like I said, read up on it before making conclusions. There have been many persuasive arguments for that case by people who were there and heard him.
Of the people killed by ice she is the only white person. Her orientation may certainly have had a role in his decision. It may not have but somehow I think it was a factor. My friend just moved to Pittsburgh and sent me a photo of the great crowd! Pittsburgh ROCKS!!!
God damn it. How do people find out about these things I would have gone to this.
My husband and I got super blocked and turned around today heading towards south side and I COULDNT BE MORE PGH PROUD!! I’ll gladly reroute 20 minutes any day for a protest against this regime. What kind of truck is blocking the road there?
I believe it said "Port Authority" on the side.
I planned on being there but sadly a migraine kept me away. I can't wait to join the next one!
What are they protesting for???
For Greenland or what about? Just assuming cuz the flag
I thought this was bc they’re out of the playoffs until I saw the post date lol
No one have jobs there?
Could someone explain what was accomplished, wouldn't it be more effective to meet with federal government representatives or national politician? What are our representatives doing? Summer Lee, Deluso, Federman.

Not trying to draw attention away from protesting, but we can also help in other ways too.

Hot take but it shouldn’t be hot, massive amounts of immigration is a really bad thing
I'm not sure they're protesting for more immigration man. They killed a lady who was a US citizen.
Cool, how does shooting an American citizen help that? Or attacking a high school? Plenty of democrats would agree if it was done legitimately.. this is beyond fucked up, and your ignorance is killing American citizens.
