Turning 50ish next weekend đ
My husband wants to take me out to dinner and I need recommendations!
Weâre in the South Hills, but weâll travel just about anywhere.
Bonus points for:
⢠early dinner times (we like to eat with the elderly⌠because we are đ )
⢠a really great steak
Drop your favorites below đ
Next week is restaurant week in Pittsburgh. Mortonâs has an appetizer, side, steak and dessert for $56.00. Best dinner you can have for a birthday. Check it out on their webpage.
Get suggestion! I forgot it is Restaurant Week.
On Friday night, we went to Revival on Lincoln (in Bellevue) for their fixed price restaurant week menu, and it was really good. And as a bonus, there were three older gentlemen playing keyboard, harmonica, and guitar for entertainment, it was so charming. But now I donât ever want to go back without those gentlemen being there lol.
Great, rather! Thank you!
My answer to questions like this is almost always Eleven because, while they are not the newest, hippest, or flashiest place, they know how to execute professionally, at a high level, and with reliable consistency. This is where I take people when it needs to go well. They are also easy to get to from any direction and have a valet.
Also, if you want to go slightly less formal than their standard table service, they have a happy hour and separate tavern menu in the bar which is very good in its own right and aligns well w/ your wish for an early time.
Weâve never been. This is a great suggestion. Thank you!
And they treat their staff like garbage.
Idk why youâre getting downvoted. My husband used to work there and there were multiple holes in the office wall from the manager punching through it in an angry rage.
Dish in the Southside. Even if you canât get a reservation, you can always get a spot at the bar, especially if you go in early when they open around 5 PM.
Second this. Usually a good idea to be there around 4:45. There can be a line at opening
Almost always a line before they open, especially when itâs nice out
I had a delmonico at Hydeholde that was great. Itâs in Moon.
Highly recommend Hyeholde for a âluxuryâ experience. Quite pricey, but I would argue it is worth it for the excellent food and unique ambience especially for a special occasion!
Storms (will need a reservation) or V&V Scratch Kitchen. They don't take reservations and are starting a special steak menu on Saturday nights.
I love V & V, and did not know this! Itâs truly a hidden gem in the South Hills. Thank you!
We were impressed with Hyde Park. We were looking for a higher end steakhouse similar to Charleyâs in Tampa and they didnât disappoint. https://www.hydeparkrestaurants.com/
I second Hyde Park. Never a bad experience there.
Fet - Fisk
Iâve read raving reviews from diners at Fet - Fisk. Thank you!
My wife and I went recently. It's really fantastic. I think what stood out was everything was prepared perfectly.
Please go to fet fisk itâs so good! Go on wing night!!!! You wonât regret it. Excellent cocktails as well.
Fet Fisk had an amazing steak with lobster sauce when we went. Also spring for the caviar if you like it
Fet-Fisk is awesome but you need to schedule as soon as reservations open 60 ish days out.
You can walk in and go to the bar across the street to wait.
Balvanera in the Strip is absolutely fantastic. I went for my birthday and had the dry aged strip which was easily the best steak I've ever had. It's an Argentinian restaurant, so it'll be different from your average steakhouse while having excellent steaks.
I second Balvanera. Their cocktails are good as well. The pistachio ice cream was life changing. đ
Yes to Balvanera! Literally everything there is fabulous. We got lots of shareable apps and sides but everyone around us was clearly there for the steak!
Poulet Bleu, go when they open, eat at the bar, order the chocolate soufflĂŠ when they ask. They have some amazing steak frite.
just went here last night with a friend who likes steak, and she seemed very happy with hers.
My 52nd birthday dinner was at Alta Via and my 53rd was at Butterjoint. Iâm not fancy but I enjoy good food.
Luma in Castle Shannon/Mount Lebo.
Talbots taphouse and terrace. Worth the drive to Mercer!
So far from the south hills though, and when done, so much better in warmer weather. I live a few minutes from Talbots & we love it.
Hyde Park is my favorite steak in the city
Alla famiglia has the best steak around. Way better than all the steak houses. And you get some amazing sides and preps.
Eddie Vâs
I love Eddie Vâs! We were there for our anniversary this summer. Thank you!
I have been to all the high end steakhouses and seafood restaurants in the area. We just last week took our son to Nateâs chophouse in Southpointe. It was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. The ribeyes melted in my mouth. Highly recommend it
Agree! Took my husband to Nateâs for his 65th birthday this fall. Food and service were excellent. we live in the South Hills and appreciated not having to go downtown for a great steak. had an early reservation (6 pm). Abundant, free parking just steps away. Canât wait to go back. Two thumbs up!
We loved Nateâs the one time we were there. I honestly always forget about it. Thank you!
Alla Famiglia
My wife and I went to the Hyeholde in Moon for our 28th anniversary and it was great ! I think it was around $110 with 3 drinks included. Nice place!
The Beef Wellington at Meat and Potatoes is fantastic. I also like the Hanger steak at Eleven
I'm a big fan of Hyde Park on the north shore. Just went there for a date with my wife this weekend. Steak Rooney is my go-to.
Alla famiglia, one of u get the veal chop, get the cacio e Pepe, fuck the haters
Tessaros in Bloomfield is a local place with great filet mignon plus other stuff your husband might like. I love the staff. They have all worked there forever and they make everyone feel welcome.
It's not overly stuffy or fancy or pretentious.
Happy birthday!

Greico's Carefree Inn
Make an email for this and google birthday freebies. Oyster house gives 8 bucks still
Ruthâs, Hyeholde~the classics for a reason.
Bistecca at the Meadows Casino.
We love Bistecca. Good call. Again, I forgot about it.
These are Mon Valley suggestions:
Hazelwood
The Woods House.
All of these are perfect special date night restaurants that you will absolutely enjoy.
The Back Porch is amazing. I havenât been in a couple years. YES!
Go to Penn Ave and go to the love jazz bar. The menu changed weekly, sometimes daily. And they have a live band every night. Con Alma. And the drinks are fantastic
Arlecchino Ristorante. Hands down for the South Hills
And Hyde Park, Hyehold and Eleven recommendations are spot on if moving outside South Hills
Arlecchino Ristorante
We done here often. Very good!
Really great steak? Somewhere like Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.
I haven't been there since the late aughts, but it was, and to this day, still is, the best ribeye steak I have ever had.
It's pricey with the sides and drinks if you're into that, but definitely worthy of a birthday dinner.
You get to see the skaters at PPG as well, evening entertainment!
Another awesome suggestion! I love this idea! I am huge on steak. Him, not so much, but itâs my birthday. Thank you!
Yeah honestly, while I'll go well out of my way to prioritize local places over chains, the best steak I've had in the area has been at the Capital Grille, and it's not even close. However, as a full celebratory experience, I'd still stick with my above recommendation of Eleven.
Happy Upcoming Birthday!
They have other offerings on their menu like chicken, pork, and seafood as well for the non-steak loving patrons.
Try Hyde park. The steaks never miss & my husband who is a meat and potatoes guy, swears by their salmon! Excellent atmosphere for a birthday, and they do an early nights menu, which is a prefix with a better price point for some options. Iâve never had a bad meal there.
Nothing compares to Ruthâs for incredible steaks! Yum!
Dianoiaâs but you probably canât get a reservation with this shot of time.
But you can get bar seats if you go around five! Get the bread that they make for you, trust me.
And the whipped ricotta! And the porchetta! Also may be able to snag an early or late reservation. Once we bumrushed the place and got a table at opening without a res. YMMV
We did not have a good experience there. Despite a reservation, it was 30 minutes before we were sat, and then they sat us upstairs in the dead zone utterly depressing. We asked to be moved when a table opened up in the vibrant downstairs. The vibe was indeed better downstairs. And while the food was rich and filling, I wouldnât say there was anything particularly great about it that would have me go back.
Iâve been there more than 20 times and never had anything but a stellar experience. Sorry yours wasnât but youâre dead wrong about the food.
Del Friscos or Eddie Vâs for steak hands down. We donât go out much, but when we do, we mostly opt for steakhouses to make the most of the opportunity. Those are my favorites in the city and weâve tried just about all of them.
*bonus tip - they are in the same building and the butter cake dessert at Del Friscos is to die for. We will eat at Eddie Vâs and go over to Del Friscos to sit at the bar and get dessert. So, so good!
Check out Scratch&Co. in Troy hill. Went for my partners 30th this past weekend, and food was phenomenal, staff was great, and drinks were even better!
Hyde Park Steak house they are doing something for restaurant week as well think you need a rsvp
Mortonâs you can never go wrong.
Hyde park has stepped up their game a ton.
Capital grille has dropped the ball
Alla familia has quality everything
This is wonderful! I love a juicy ribeye, and this is very helpful! Thank you!
Napa Prime or Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse
Capstone grille on rt 19 in McMurray
We love Capstone, but we frequent it. My favorite restaurant in the South Hills!
Beez Bistro and Pub in Bridgeville is awesome. The steak is good but so is everything else.
Iâm not a fan of Beez. Itâs like they try to dress up bar food. We were repeatedly disappointed so we stopped going. That was 2018-2019.
To each his own.
Armstrongs, caste village.
I would normally say Dish (south side). But for 50th birthday anything short of Altius (mt washington) is unacceptable! ;)
Church Brew Works in Lawrenceville/Bloomfield
respectfullyâŚ. no
Im sorry⌠what?
Thatâs where I took him in October for his birthday. Thatâs our go to in the city. Thank you!
I didn't know anyone local still went there. Tourists, sure because they have no idea.
Yes. His brother was in town, and they both love the mushroom meatloaf. đ¤ˇđťââď¸
