How dare you, there's nothing funny about a Burger King resting on top of the grave of The Italian Bread Place & Deli. Ever since that happened I have refused to eat at Burger King lmao
And its still fucking trash. I give it a try at least once a year and I am always dissappinted in the quality of the food and the lack of speed of service. Hospitality is ass too. Idk how the fuck that BK stays in business. Its a joke
Would love it if someone like this would take over the clearly defunct Lock & Dam Dog Shop by the zoo. A perfect location that’s gone to waste over the past few years
I hadn't been to the zoo in a while and I was absolutely crushed when I took my kiddo and realized we couldn't hit the Lock & Dam afterwards.
It was one of those things I wanted to do with my kid the way my dad used to do with me, and it broke my heart that I couldn't. So many of those fun memories with him are impossible to share with my own kid now and I hate it.
I feel like the Allegheny County real estate / GIS / tax portal is clunkier than other jurisdictions' that I'm familiar with, so don't quote me on this, but best I can tell, the land is owned by the zoo? However, it also seems to have a mailing address that is a residence in Sewickley. So that's weird.
The zoo definitely still owns that property and the big blue house caddy corner from it. Sold the lot with the gas station to the owners a couple years back.
The guy that was running the business for the last couple years I believe sold all the equipment. So whatever they put in the next will be starting from pretty much scratch.
It's a shame, food was good and the people were great. Used to grab an order of cheese fries for walking around when I was down there.
True but that last year they were only open very sporadically. I think they were stuck in that vicious restaurant cycle. Can't keep staff because can't pay enough, can't pay enough because low sales exacerbated by limited hours due to low staff.
I don't envy anyone opening a restaurant. If you don't have some serious financial having it seems crazy difficult to get over that initial hump in to real profitablity.
Grew up near one. We didn’t have good china. We had hot dog shop cups. And we all had a favorite one. I can still taste the ice cold mt dew (my mom only kept mt dew in the house lol Haven’t had mt dew since)
The best is going on the weekend, as the breakfast menu is ending, and lunch starting. I get two dippy eggs, and put them on top of their chili/cheese/onion fries. Heaven on a plate
I live near the Noblestown location, but I drive up to the Cranberry one purely for the vibes. Made almost entirely out of formica, and the waitresses are prickle-y as hell. When I was pregnant, nothing hit the spot like eating a chili cheese dog in that formica palace.
if you like this place you need to try Johnnys in Jamestown ny. the best shitty looking dogs and burgers I've had anywhere. They had one location someone opened a franchisee of in cranberry a while back, but it wasn't nearly as good.
The two closest to the city is the one in moon and also the one on Noblestown. I grew up in Beaver county and venture to both to get a taste of home. Idk, it’s something about that cheese I swear! Always my favorite.
Nah, IMO Five Guys is consistently better than In N Out, and in my experience, significantly pricier than McDonald’s (prices have changed since then, but IIRC a double Animal Style with small fries cost about 50% more than a McD Quarter Pounder meal upsized to large).
Just put together pretty much the same order at Five guys on their website for pickup in Cranberry, it came to 23.81. In N Our order in Vegas waws 16.20
I just went a few months ago and took a picture of the menu.
Cheeseburger (.2 lb patty) is $4
Double double (.4 lb patty) is $5.80
Cheeseburger meal is $8.35
Double double meal is $10.15
Now looking at McDonald's prices
Quarter Pounder (.25 lb patty) is $5.99
Quarter Pounder meal is $9.68
Not the same size but quarter pounder is 50% more right now for 25% more meat.
Double double is cheaper with more meat.
With fries and a drink the double double is slightly more expensive for a lot more meat.
5 guys is similar quality, maybe a bit better IMO but their,
Cheeseburger (~.22 lb patty) is $12.49
Cheeseburger meal is $18.49
For just the burger it's over 3x more expensive than In and Out. Meal is over double.
Edit: In and Out is 0.125 lb so a double double is the same amount of burger as a quarter pounder.
Makes the prices slightly cheaper at in and out for a burger and slightly more expensive for a meal. At the end of the day, you can consider them the same price.
There’s a ceiling for what people are willing to pay even if the product is good, and 5G’s over it. Also why Freshii is gone here, good food but not much of a market for $25 lunch salads here.
I know it's out of the way but go to New Castle and get good hot dogs and chili at Jimmy's or Coney Island or Bills. Brighton is terrible relative to those shoppes.
So, years ago I worked in New Castle, and a BHDS opened up - I was so excited. Especially after trying Coney Island, asking for cheese on my fries - and getting a handful of cold shredded cheese. W.T.F.
Unfortunately the BHDS didn't last too long. People in New Castle are... a special breed
I've always had trouble with the one in Cranberry getting my order right. There are a few that have breakfast. It's a good basic greasy spoon breakfast at a reasonable price.
The hot dog is probably the worst item on the menu- and I mean that with no disrespect. Their burgers and fries are that good. And their cups are pure gold!
Man haven’t had HDS since I moved out of NB after college like fifteen years ago. What’s the price of dogs nowadays because I’m going to be honest thinking back on those prices is why I refuse to eat at any hot dog place in the city. Anything more than like $1-$1.50/dog feels like you are insulting me as the customer.
Frankie’s in Lawrenceville has your closer to the city hookup for dogs. D’s in Regent Square, Burgh dogs in Springdale, and Dad’s pub in Monroeville all do decent dogs. Yovi’s Chicago dogs downtown was great, but I think he closed?
Overall, since the O closed, this city is screaming for a great dog shop. The crown is there for the taking.
Maybe it's different at different locations, but the Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe's cheese is, for some reason, sweet. It's really off-putting. We first tried it during Covid and couldn't eat the fries. Tried it again more recently in case it was a supply issue the first time and nope... still sweet cheese. The quality of the fries was great otherwise.
I want to love this place. I had fond memories as a kid. However in the past two years I've been to two of them and gotten sick both times.
Not to mention...
1. Cranberry... They really need to change the oil and give the entire place a deep clean.
2. Food sanitation training is sorely needed as it is is considered optional by some of the staff. The servers finger in my chili fries when they dropped them off is not normal and asking for new ones should not require involvement of the manager.
If I remember correctly there used to be one a very, VERY long time ago down in the strip for a brief time. It was somewhere down near where the McDonalds used to be.
There’s one on noblestown rd!
Used to be a Burger King and what did Burger King do! Open a Burger King across the street
I tell people this all the time. I think its funny
How dare you, there's nothing funny about a Burger King resting on top of the grave of The Italian Bread Place & Deli. Ever since that happened I have refused to eat at Burger King lmao
Yeah I miss that deli
I miss that deli
Which then closed down, and then reopened
I wish it was still The Italian Bread Place!
best lunch sandwiches there, rueben was top tier
And its still fucking trash. I give it a try at least once a year and I am always dissappinted in the quality of the food and the lack of speed of service. Hospitality is ass too. Idk how the fuck that BK stays in business. Its a joke
They have breakfast there too last time I checked
Which was on mayor of Kingstown this season
It’s inside the city limits too. Pretty sure it’s in Westwood or Oakwood. It’s close to Greentree, but it’s in the city technically.
Would love it if someone like this would take over the clearly defunct Lock & Dam Dog Shop by the zoo. A perfect location that’s gone to waste over the past few years

It's a shame, food was good and the people were great. Used to grab an order of cheese fries for walking around when I was down there.
Yeah I was bummed to see they closed. I loved stopping there for a Grunge dog onion rings and a pineapple milkshake.
They have only been closed for a year.
This!!!
I like the on on 65. Seems like the shittier the location the better the food.
Maybe they clean their equipment less so you got extra flavor from old food haha
The one in beaver falls had a bullet hole in its front window for years
The one in bf is loooong closed
Yeah this was a memory from my childhood. Mid 90s probably.
East Rochester
We have a collection of the different cups. My favorite is hotdog Santa saluting baby Jesus.
I have the 9/11 one. You read that right.
Theres some really crazy ones. The one in chippewa has all the cups they made alogn the wall .
Grew up near one. We didn’t have good china. We had hot dog shop cups. And we all had a favorite one. I can still taste the ice cold mt dew (my mom only kept mt dew in the house lol Haven’t had mt dew since)
Don’t sleep on their burger
FANTASTIC burgers!!!!
I worked there for years and still crave them daily. They were doing smashburgers before it was cool.
My fave burgers anywhere
I say this all the time 😭 I thought I was the only one who went for a burger
Best burgers around honestly. I’d get them more if they didn’t take so long to make sometimes.
And their breakfast!
The best is going on the weekend, as the breakfast menu is ending, and lunch starting. I get two dippy eggs, and put them on top of their chili/cheese/onion fries. Heaven on a plate
best thing on the menu.
IMHO better than Shake Shack and any fast food burger chain. Plain, simple ingredients.
the wedding soup is so good!
It’s the best local chain we have imo. I’d put their double cheeseburger on par with any of the more famous national options.
Better than Five Guys for less money.
The O should still be in business
I need to try the new yinzer dog
Try Dad’s Dog & Burger on Liberty Ave
No comparison
Wait like it’s better or not better?
Brighton Hot Dog is better
And probably 1/4 the price.
I did not like the dogs here at all but I’m not a fan of the snap either
Wait, there's a human being on planet Earth who prefers hot dogs soft and unsnappy?
im not hte person you replied to but I find natural casing frankfurters kinda gross
That place kinda is the suck.
There is literally one in the city
I live near the Noblestown location, but I drive up to the Cranberry one purely for the vibes. Made almost entirely out of formica, and the waitresses are prickle-y as hell. When I was pregnant, nothing hit the spot like eating a chili cheese dog in that formica palace.
Bert’s !!!!!!
Absolute fave. The secret is the 100 y.o. hot dog water and the dust from Rt 18.
The real tech is getting a cheeseburger and putting chilli cheese fries on it
I mean it's the Brighton Hot Dog Shop, not the Dahntahn Hot Dog Shop
if you like this place you need to try Johnnys in Jamestown ny. the best shitty looking dogs and burgers I've had anywhere. They had one location someone opened a franchisee of in cranberry a while back, but it wasn't nearly as good.
I grew up on Johnny's, my family and the owners are real close friends. Their hot dogs are decent, but it's the sauce everyone goes nuts for.
Ronny's Red Hots guy myself
Not sure if it’s still open Jay’s in Youngstown.
Red Hot in Ellwood City too. Absolutely dirty but I dream of it
Lundy's in New Castle is the closest I know of.
I’m an AJs gal, but I hear ya. Nothing beats a T Hot.
The different Brighton shops use different fries. Prefer cranberry
I think they are all pretty similar except nonlestown though correct
I think noblestown is the only one to differ, vanport moon Chippewa cranberry all have the same stuff
No they dont. The fries all come from a commissary in Bridgewater.
Can't be. Cranberry are shoestring. Noblestown is much bigger cut.
Might be a franchise thing then. All the original locations are the same.
The two closest to the city is the one in moon and also the one on Noblestown. I grew up in Beaver county and venture to both to get a taste of home. Idk, it’s something about that cheese I swear! Always my favorite.
I think it’s funny that the cheese comes out of a caulking gun. Always cracks me up
They're weirdly religious but those chili cheese fries are delicious
What? This is not true. I'm familiar with the owner and he's not particularly religious.
In N Out on the west coast is crazy religious but idc its frigging good lol
Unpopular opinion: In N Out is hipster overpriced Wendy’s. Had a few times when I was in SoCal because of the hype, wasn’t impressed.
I'd put it better than 5 guys for a slightly above McDonald's price
Nah, IMO Five Guys is consistently better than In N Out, and in my experience, significantly pricier than McDonald’s (prices have changed since then, but IIRC a double Animal Style with small fries cost about 50% more than a McD Quarter Pounder meal upsized to large).
I feel 5 guys is just to much. Last time I went to In N Out I got a dimple double medium shake and animals fries. It waa like 16 bucks
That's about what I pay for a comparable meal at Five Guys.
Last time I went to a five guys the burger alone was 10 dollars.
Sure. And the fries and drink were less than $5, total $15, comparable to In N Out (or so I’m told).
Just put together pretty much the same order at Five guys on their website for pickup in Cranberry, it came to 23.81. In N Our order in Vegas waws 16.20
$16? And they don't put bourbon in it or nothin?
I just went a few months ago and took a picture of the menu.
Cheeseburger (.2 lb patty) is $4
Double double (.4 lb patty) is $5.80
Cheeseburger meal is $8.35
Double double meal is $10.15

Makes the prices slightly cheaper at in and out for a burger and slightly more expensive for a meal. At the end of the day, you can consider them the same price.
I like them all. But I think your patty sizes for in-n-out might be a hit high. I think the patties are 2 ounces and not .2 pounds.
Those 5 guys prices are WOW. I haven't been there in awhile.
Five Guys is also stupidly expensive.
No argument there. But then, everything is now.
There’s a ceiling for what people are willing to pay even if the product is good, and 5G’s over it. Also why Freshii is gone here, good food but not much of a market for $25 lunch salads here.
I’ve never heard this and I’m from the town of the original one
They recently started Sunday hours, but I think because they were closed on sundays people assumed it was due to religious beliefs.
Their breakfast is really good
I know it's out of the way but go to New Castle and get good hot dogs and chili at Jimmy's or Coney Island or Bills. Brighton is terrible relative to those shoppes.
What? I went to Coney Island, asked for cheese on my fries - and got a handful of cold shredded cheese. An abomination.

I'm moving into downtown within a few months and I'll have to take some special trips out of the city just for hds. Love taking their cups too
I moved away 25 years ago and we still have hot dog shop cups in the house.
Definitely should be way more popular in the city. It's a guilty pleasure for sure. I swing out to Greentree just for it though.
That location is in the city, not Greentree.
I've always had trouble with the one in Cranberry getting my order right. There are a few that have breakfast. It's a good basic greasy spoon breakfast at a reasonable price.
Is the cheese sauce still oddly sweet? I lived across the street from one in college, but i thought the food was so terrible, I rarely went.
I remember the cheese sauce being weird, and by the pic it doesn’t look different. Oily and sweet.
Ya it is def a lil weird but I love it, can’t be goo do you lol
Do they still manufacture their own hotdogs? I had heard a neighbor was working in their factory like at least ten years ago.
Their burgers and French toast are goated
They do as far as I know
YES!
Wiener World
Dude I’m in Michigan and was just talking to my sister about missing this place yesterday.
The hot dog is probably the worst item on the menu- and I mean that with no disrespect. Their burgers and fries are that good. And their cups are pure gold!

Don't sleep on their fish sandwich, it's soooo good!
They still do seated service at the one in Warrandale; it is amazing.
They should put them in the Ohio River.
No opinion has a wrong answer… except this one.
Exactly!
I wouldn't consider it close to the city but The Red Caboose has FANTASTIC chili dogs.
Shortys in Washington
Frankie’s in Lawrenceville has your closer to the city hookup for dogs. D’s in Regent Square, Burgh dogs in Springdale, and Dad’s pub in Monroeville all do decent dogs. Yovi’s Chicago dogs downtown was great, but I think he closed?
Overall, since the O closed, this city is screaming for a great dog shop. The crown is there for the taking.
Idk what kinda jagoff downvoted you for suggesting Frankie's but they're an idiot, that's for damn sure.
The food in the pic looks good as hell. I’ll have to visit the restaurant asap.
Thats the Cranberry one
the "cheese" is real gross tbh
Agreed, i want to like them but the cheese is awful
Maybe it's different at different locations, but the Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe's cheese is, for some reason, sweet. It's really off-putting. We first tried it during Covid and couldn't eat the fries. Tried it again more recently in case it was a supply issue the first time and nope... still sweet cheese. The quality of the fries was great otherwise.
I think like most things in this area, it’s only one of your favorites if you grew up on it
There’s also a branch of the Hot Dog Shoppe in East Liverpool, Ohio.
Not the same as "Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe"
Obvi. Owned by the same family, however, at least way back when.
Not the same, but Coney Style Dogs and Fries.
I do love Brighton, but it's no Jim's.
I’ve not been there for a while. Time to hit the location in Beaver. Pro ump favorite one
I want to love this place. I had fond memories as a kid. However in the past two years I've been to two of them and gotten sick both times.
Not to mention... 1. Cranberry... They really need to change the oil and give the entire place a deep clean. 2.
