My wife and I are going in vacation so I had to take Bruce on a roadtrip to be boarded. He didn’t exactly stay back there, he ended up on my lap as I was trying to drive and we had to come up with something else. He had a big bed in the back seat but ended up riding in the front with me. Still super worried about him but they said he’s doing great so far, but might still be concerned he’s being abandoned again.

You should have a proper harness on him and have him restrained with the seat belt. Driving with a dog loose in your vehicle is extremely dangerous and irresponsible.
