Just about an hour after getting it pierced but wanted to ask how much bleeding is normal for a septum and if I should be concerned about the crookedness. It looks alright straight on but from the side or leaning my head back it's off by a bit. Should I just wait and hope that it's straighter when it heals or remove, let it heal and go for a repierce?

Even if a septum piercing is done through the cartilage, it can still heal just fine. A septum piercing can bleed a bit even if it’s pierced through the “sweet spot” I’m more concerned about the placement and angle of the piercing.

Is definitely crooked but the bleeding is normal, OP

That’s not accurate. It’s also not in OPs eyelid.

  • that right eyebrow is also irritated and done way too low

I have an eyebrow piercing that's red in a similar way and has been since I got it about 6 months ago, what should I do about it?

Maybe take it out or get it redone, I’m not a professional but these piercings reject and that’s the last thing you want

  • I got mine pierced crooked too, but it's because I have a deviated septum and if i got it pierced straight it wouldn't have been placed correctly. Could it be your case? If not then the piercing should get redone.

2nd person to say this but I've never been told that I have or dont have a deviated septum so I can't rule it out. Guess thats something I can look a little further into, thank you!

All Most Septums are deviated. You have to be lucky to not have it deviated. Dont worry too much how it looks from below IF your septum is deviated indeed and its been placed properly. Wait for the swelling to come down, and see how it looks . I would say I have a symmetrical nose but my septum is deviated, was in denial and pierced it 3 times at the top studios in my area. always seemed crooked. Ha!
Take care of it and Happy healing :)

NAP but mine pierced my crooked ass septum and said he lined it up with my face instead. Yours doesn't look like it's lined up with your face, either, imo :/

  • bruh if you have the money to afford a professional studio pls get your right eyebrow redone it's on your eyelid and it's going to reject:(

It might be hella fucking swollen

That’s not accurate. It’s also not in OPs eyelid.

By no means trying to argue but I think thats just a bad example pic for eyebrows since im looking downwards, I got them both at the same time around 6 months ago and had WAY more issues with the left to the point of almost losing it

Are we sure we’re talking about the same left and right? I think your (op) left would be the right side we’re seeing in the images. The side closest to the car window. Which makes sense if you had problems with it as it does look irritated.

It’s on your eyelid in the front facing pic too

  • I just got my septum done a week ago. My septum is quite deviated, and also sits a tad crooked. That much blood an hour after the fact is a concern to me. It's possible that your piercer did a poor job, And went thru cartilage

I've never been told that I have a deviated septum and honestly dont know much about them, as for the blood those pictured were taken closer to 20-30 mins and the bleeding has stopped since, I guess I did make that a little confusing

Well in the meantime, follow your aftercare. Rinse it with a saline spray and gently wipe the area clean once or twice a day, be very gentle with it, avoid touching it or letting it get jostled. Give it a day to start relaxing. Mine has settled nicely and looks straight enough when viewed from the front. Once it's calmed down some, you can move the ring forward some to help it look straight.

    Happy healing

  • Whoever you’re going to STOP 😭

  • My septum bled a TON for a few days when I got it done. It is pretty crooked though. If it's bothering you now I would take out the jewelry, let it heal, and get it redone with a different piercer.

  • Is definitely crooked but the bleeding is normal, OP

  • Mine was done a little crooked on purpose when it’s looked at up close. It was done that way so it looks straight when seen from further away and straight forward which is how people look at you not up your nostrils, because my face is not symmetrical and my centerline isn’t 100% centered. They did it so it would hang straight relative to my face.

I was super crazy worried at first, but as the swelling went down and it healed it looks totally fine

  • Piercing is new, less than an hour old Titanium external threaded Hasn't been downsized Aftercare routine planned to be saline spray solution and saline soaks after showers No snags, mishaps or other trauma (besides the piercing obv)

It depends on what it looked like immediately after getting pierced, before it started swelling. If it was even when you got it, it probably just looks crooked due to swelling. If it’s looked crooked from the start, definitely remove it, let it heal, and get it redone, preferably by someone who is. APP certified (if you’re in the US).

Additionally, I would DEFINITELY get that left brow re-pierced. It’s dangerously placed. It could be putting pressure on your eye and slowly damaging it. I also reeeaaalllyy don’t like the odds of you potentially stabbing your eyeball when switching out the jewelry.

  • I had to have my septum pierced twice, but both times it swelled up so quickly ( the second time it was before she got the captive bead in) there was no way to tell how crooked or straight it was until a few weeks later. I too have a deviated septum.

The first time it looked a little off, and was really quite crooked after consulting with the piercer about 3 weeks later I had her take it out and I let it heal.

Then she repierced it. And it swelled up fast. And it looked crazy crooked. I let it heal for a couple of weeks & it was perfect.

Maybe you have some weird swelling like I did. I also had a bit of bleeding. It healed well though. Maybe give it a few weeks see if it’s swelling that’s making it look crooked.

  • My septum never bled, idk if I just got lucky or if a lot of people have had bad septum experiences and think it's normal. Mine was also pierced crooked because of my deviated septum but looks straight from the front and again never bled unless I actually harmed my nose while it was healing

Same, got my septum done in October and not once did it bleed. Also didn’t really hurt, I did pay to have my girlfriend and I’s piecing done a piercing only shop. Was pricey but definitely worth it.

  • if your septum piercing was done by the same person who did your eyebrow piercing, you really should stop going to them, both piercings are done badly

  • Golly, find a new piercer..

  • NAP or Not a doc; but, I don’t think you have a deviated septum. Do we have veins in that area? That seems like more blood than I’ve ever seen for septum piercings. Also, it did look crooked? If it were me (IF), I would take it out and let it heal then have it redone by someone else. My first one was crooked and I kept it for a few weeks before taking it out. It bugged the crap out of me. It was perfect when I got it redone.

    • What’s the type of threading if your jewelry is not a ring (threadless, internally or externally threaded)?
    • What’s the jewelry material?
    • if not a ring, when was the jewelry downsized?
    • What’s your aftercare routine? Describe in detail please, including the exact products you use.
    • Any mishaps, accidents or unfortunate events?

  • NAP. As far as I know, some bleeding is quite normal. If it continues tomorrow though, get that checked. Better safe than sorry.

Now. I can't upload a picture in reply to show you my septum [I can dm if you want] but it might be crooked due to your anatomy. Mine is lower than regular septum should be and is bit uneven. I've had it checked by 2 piercers and it is in fact correct placement. I can also tell myself by touching the "correct placement" that there's in fact cartilage. But, I'd ask different professional (or 2) to ensure it's correct spot after swelling goes down though.

Also, did it hurt a lot while piercing / afterwards? Was there any sound effects when needle was going through? This would suggest you were pierced through cartilage (which would also bleed a lot).

There wasnt any specific sound or pop that I can remember that would concern me but it hurt a fair bit, I have a fairly high tolerance to pain and have had both ears, both eyebrows, and snakebites done as well but the septum was by far the most painful during the piercing, it wasnt bad enough to stop it or have it removed but it definitely was a hissing inhale through clenched teeth moment if that helps or makes sense.

Alright. I would definitely check it then. Septum is usually very low pain level poercing and so for you to say it did hurt quite a bit combined with blood is a bit worrying. Does it still hurt?

NAP - Seconding this, sounds like it went through cartilage. The most painful part of my septum was her putting the 'guide' in several times making sure she found the 'sweet spot', the needle itself I didn't feel at all after that.

Even if a septum piercing is done through the cartilage, it can still heal just fine. A septum piercing can bleed a bit even if it’s pierced through the “sweet spot” I’m more concerned about the placement and angle of the piercing.

  • I would get a refund, thats pretty crooked

  • does it hurt a lot? when I got my septum pierced, the placement looked crooked and too far back similar to yours. but it was also intensely painful afterwards to the point of making me seek a second opinion. second piercer told me that it was actually pierced thru hard cartilage and not thru my septum at all. I got it removed because I was told it would be a very long and painful healing process if I tried to keep it. there is also a more serious risk of a hematoma developing with that placement. best thing you can do is to have another piercer look at it.

eta: since you JUST got this done I guess it’d be hard to tell if the pain is normal or too much. after a few days, mine was still throbbing and any slight touching of my nose made me yell out involuntarily. I was told that level of pain is NOT normal for a septum piercing. just something to watch out for if you decide to leave it in.

  • Mine was also so so crooked. I got up and she said, do you want me to pierce it again? And I was like no... Paid/left and took it out

  • My septum looked kind of crooked when I got it and I was concerned- but not too long after the swelling went down and it looked fine lol. I wouldn't worry too much yet. Give it time to cook

  • That’s almost unnoticeable, but I feel you. Septum’s are very difficult to do correctly every single time. If you’re unhappy with it, I’m sure your piercer is more than willing to redo it for free. I know I would rather have a client complain to me and let me make it right, before I publicly blasted him. Piercers are not machines and bodies are very pliable mediums. I honestly don’t know if you will get different results with another, because it does look like there’s a slight lean to your septum anyway. In that case, the piercing would actually be straight/aligned with the septum, and your septum that may be slightly off.

  • When I got mine, it didn't really bleed at all. I even got 1 size larger then the normal gage for a septum. The needle went through like butter. I can understand being a bit crooked to fit anatomy, but this looks off.

  • When i had my septum pierced the first time it maybe bled for max a minute. When i had it repierced, it bled for a good few hours. Just keep up with your aftercare and it should stop

  • Just get a bunch more in your face, people won't notice your septum being crooked, probably already the case.

  • did they pierce the cartilage?

  • Mine looked very crooked due to swelling. Completely fine once it healed. Maybe give it a few weeks to settle

  • When I got my septum done, my piercer warned me that it could look very crooked at first due to the swelling. I was super nervous about it never settling, but after 1 week it was much better and after 2 weeks the swelling was gone and it looked totally even (or at least as even as it possibly could with my asymmetric nose). So I'd recommend waiting at least 2 weeks before deciding whether to take it out, but your situation may be different

  • Yeah it’s definitely crooked

  • Mine was is crooked like that too, it straightened up after the swelling went down. Mine is still crooked from that under angle tho bc my piercer pierced it that way so it’d look straight from the front

  • It's crooked looking at it straight on too. I would take it out and get it redone.

  • I found my septum seemed crooked after piercing but once it healed it was fine

  • I know everyone has different experiences, but my septum didn't bleed at all. Hurt like a bitch going through, but felt perfectly fine once the jewelry was in.

Yours also looks crooked. Does it hurt a ton? Mine only really hurt a little if I pushed on the tip of my nose, and that pain was similar to having a pimple on the inside of your nose.

It's kind of hard to tell if it's in the right spot without a side photo as well.

  • That's definitely crooked. But as for the bleeding mine bled like crazy

  • My septum was crooked for a few weeks but eventually it straightened. If it is still crooked after 1-2 months then maybe you should get it re-pierced. My piercer told me he would do it for free of course, if it needed to be done

  • the septum is incredibly crooked and one of your eyebrows is perfect but the other one is definitely not. it’s way too low and i think it may be best to take it out let it heal and get it redone… saying this as someone who’s been through it and knows it sucks to have to do things twice because it wasn’t done right the first time

  • NAP but my piercing was pierced slightly crooked too. I fixed it by putting a small strip off bandaid behind one side for a week, changing it everyday, so that that side would be pushed forward slightly and heal straight.

  • my septum looks like that as well just a little crooked but i also had like no bleeding with it getting done but if youre on any medications that could be a cause of the bleeding and with the amount of bleeding happening thats something my piercers have told me for mine when i had bleeding with my nostrils

  • Hey all, just following up after starting day 2. Thank you for all your responses and concern! I plan on getting a second and maybe a third opinion from other piercers in my area, I've sent them emails and am just waiting for a response. Ill have them look at my eyebrow piercings as well while im there to be safe rather than sorry. All 3 of my current facial piercings were done by the same person who is board and state certified and been piercing for over 25 years, all 3 totaled just under $200 to have done with basic Titanium jewelry. Just figured I would give you guys some more info about the situation. I also have side pics if anyone wants them DMd but I can't find a way to edit them in or comment them here. Again thank you all for your time and concern!

  • My condolences the only time I’ve ever seen somebody have a crooked septum was me when I got mine done because I had a deviated septum, and my piercer tried to overcorrect it and eventually it straightened out or i just dont notice it as much anymore

  • I would suggest going to another piercing shop for a second opinion at the very least. Do this instead of taking it out yourself.

Story time! I got my septum pierced by a shop that had good reviews, my sister and I lost our usual piercer and tattoo artist, we aren't sure what happened but the drama at the shop was wild so I was going out and finding a new piercer and tattoo artist. I was the test dummy lol. I didn't mind.

I went to this place in Flint, MI, (feel free to pm if you're in that area to avoid said shop) reviews were good, especially about one guy for a septum. My first red flag should have been that when I wanted a staple style of jewelry, he should have informed me it wasn't the best idea to be pierced with (I had done research of course but was always biased towards straight bars for healing, I didn't realize the septum differences). He just decided that he would pierce with a staple. He also said he free hands these, that's fine but there are tools that exist to help keep them straight.

When I got my septum pierced, I was crying and nearly passed out, it was almost as painful as my nipples were - NOT a good sign. I was bleeding a lot and it was very crooked. My nose was swollen, it was red over the next couple of days and lots of puss. It also felt very rigid in my nose. It was pierced through the cartilage. I went to a different shop that happened to be open late, I got a second opinion and it was definitely through the cartilage.

He removed the piercing and thoroughly cleaned it, even gave me advice on if I wanted to heal it in that spot (I did not), but he was all up in there cleaning after taking it out. I cleaned it lots while it was healing. The plan was to reevaluate after about 4 weeks and see how it was healing and it sealed up fine and re-pierced it in the sweet spot.

Now I have it done properly and I was able to blow my nose without crying lol.

  • Hey 👋 my septum sits similar (done 20+ years ago, first one absolutely cooked and cam out through the front, pretty sure the piercer was stoned but options were limited). Anyhow, with a horse shoe it always is more obvious to me but with a full ring it looks much better. I have a stretched septum now and that really improved the angle issue- I wear it stacked. Btw not a professional.

  • Just got one like this. Take that out and get a refund asap.

  • you just got it bleeding is normal

  • What was your piercer doing? My septum didn’t bleed a bit and I‘m on blood thinners.

  • I got my septum done about two months ago. I was told it will always sit/look crooked with a horseshoe. Once the swelling went down, mine looked less crooked.
