EDIT: Thank you all for the comments. You are absolutely right. I'll follow with this piercing and stop it with my drama. You really helped me with the overthinking around this! ❤️🙌🏻

Hi everyone! I got this done 10 days ago. Titanium. The piercing itself is healing very well, but now that the swelling has gone down, I really don’t like how it’s sitting.

When it was marked, the piercer placed the dot just a little below my previous vertical labret piercing (which I agreed to), but centered. Now it looks off-center and the entry/exit points look uneven (this may not be noticeable upon downsizing). I’ve never had this issue before and it’s making me really anxious.

For context, I felt a bit uncomfortable at the shop that day, they let several walk-ins go before me even though there were no appointments and I got first, I was tired, and when I finally got pierced, saw it after, I liked it but I was bleeding and swollen so it was hard to tell. I also had some push pin high nostrils changed which they had difficulties taking out and everyone was stressed lol.

What should I do? Should I remove it now so it closes more cleanly? Should I go back to the same shop or see a different piercer? MOST IMPORTANTLY: AM I OVERREACTING AND SEEING THINGS THAT DON'T EXIST?

Thank you for any advice!

No, you always perform piercings centered. Never perform piercings “crooked” or “off center” on purpose. If they decide to get a philtrum later on, you pierce it according to the anatomy given. Truly, no face is symmetrical.

    Anytime!

Your top lip isn’t centered, if you move it to match the bottom then the placement would be way off. Faces aren’t symmetrical. I usually never say this because a lot of piercers say that as an excuse to do shitty piercings.

  • The red line actually looks off to the right side of your lip to me. The piercing looks more centered than the line.

I'm guessing the line is centered to your top lip (to the cupid bow) but your bottom lip is not centered to that cupid bow. The piercing is centered to your lower lip.

I agree that the red line doesn't appear centered.

  • No face is 100% symmetrical. For me this is within tolerance. Looking at your lower lip alone it seems placed ok.

Thank you very much for talking the time to comment 🙌🏻 you are right

Seconded. I used to pierce and it definitely looks centered for the bottom lip. That’s a tough piercing and everyone has different anatomy.

How’s it line up with the nose? I’m willing to bet nobody will notice including you soon enough.

I just tried to move only my top lip and learned something new… 🤔

OP, I agree. This is centered to your bottom lip and it looks great, imo.

It also looks like it’s centered with their chin (from what I can tell, it’s cut off a little) - the angle of the picture itself also might not be perfectly straight on which can affect it too. But I bet seeing it irl it probably looks like flawless placement.

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment 🙌🏻 this specially helped me to stop overthinking 😅. I'll keep the piercing

  • It really isn't bad I don't even notice. As someone else said our faces are not symmetrical.

  • Hello. Piercer with over 25 years in. This looks great. You need to understand that these are SO difficult to do. Hardly anyone is perfectly symmetrical. Wear this and love it. It’s beautiful.

  • If every porkchop were perfect, we wouldn't have hotdogs 🤷🏾‍♂️

  • When I had mine pierced, it was crooked when I was resting my face. But when I smiled it was centered

  • I agree with the folks saying this really looks fine. I'll add that In this pic the jewelry looks a bit twisted, and I think that's adding to your perception of off-ness. (I can see the curve of the bottom of the barbell off to one side a bit.) It looks like if that were to be centered it would turn the top gem to look even straighter on your lip. Hope you feel better about it! I go nuts over my piercings being straight but I have the crookedest features so I really oughta chill on that myself.

Hahaha my lips are a bit crooked too! So the mere thought of adding crokeedness gives me so much anxiety (pointless, I know). And indeed, the twisted bar adds to that, downsizing will do it good!

  • They lined it up to your chin and bottom lip, not your upper lip from what I can see.

  • If this helps: I barely notice it with the line. Without the line I wouldn’t notice it at all. I think it looks good.

  • I think it looks good 👍

  • Faces are asymmetrical as others have said. I think your setup looks great for your features! Very fitting, I see no issues with placement.

  • Also relevant but missing in your photo… nose? Chin? Teeth? We have so many midlines.

  • More info:

    10 days old

    Curved Barbell

    Internally threaded

    Titanium

    Not downsized yet

Saline solution + aftercare solution handed by the shop. 3 times a day

No mishaps, no accidents. Seems to be healing nicely

  • Also, a triangle isn't radially symmetrical. If you turn it to be laterally symmetrical it will look more centered

  • Keep it! I thought the same thing when I had mine done. Let it close and repierced. Scar tissue hurts and the scarring in general is much worse once I finally let it close. Have fun with it for awhile at least and see how you feel.

  • Nobody will notice if you dont point it out

  • Firstly I'm sorry you had a bad shop experience.

Not trying to minimize how you feel but without the lines and without being basically eye to mouth I wouldn't notice this being not perfectly center.

This may also look more center in relation to your whole head take a photo from at least a couple of feet away as that's how most people will see you.

Normally when I do a piercing like this I'll put a few lines to make sure all the angles line up and (from the photo alone) it looks like it could just be a tiny dot off either side.

If you're not happy you can go back and see if they are willing to re do it for you.

But personally, it's healing good and it looks good so I'd leave it.

Yes, even when the algorithm is wrong

    • How old is your piercing?
    • What’s the jewelry shape (for example, barbell, labret, screw, L shape, ring)?
    • What’s the type of threading if your jewelry is not a ring (threadless, internally or externally threaded)?
    • What’s the jewelry material?
    • if not a ring, when was the jewelry downsized?
    • What’s your aftercare routine? Describe in detail please, including the exact products you use.
    • Any mishaps, accidents or unfortunate events?

  • I even think if you were to turn the jewellery round a bit (as it’s the three points type shape) it would actually be almost exactly symmetrical anyway. As in turn it so one of the stones/points be in the red line here

To clarify: It’s totally fine! Enjoy and worry no more : )

  • no one would notice if you just kept talking

  • i think i’d go back and have them take it out and see if they’d redo it once it’s healed or at least give u some $ back because if it bothers you it bothers you. but it doesn’t look bad at all and ofc you won’t walk around with a red line on you so it will probably be a lot less noticeable to other people
