It's a cool experience. When we were there a guy with a radio of sorts was listening as each plane approached. He would loudly announce the incoming plane and the city the flight originated from.
Yeah, definitely more of a tourist trap than anything else. Went on a cruise a few years ago and ended up at this “beach” on an excursion.
It’s neat to see in person but wasn’t great to hangout at like a normal beach. It is smaller than a football field, the surf is rough, and when a plane takes off it blows sand and everything that isn’t anchored in the ground everywhere(people included)
There were definitely other spots I saw while driving there I would have much rather spent time at.
Sitting on that beach at night listening to the waves gently lapping against the shore and watching the last inbound flight of the night on final approach was pretty relaxing, but having a commercial airliner go over your head? Not relaxing.
Spotting? Doesn't this happen on the regular?
Yeah, it does.
You also get lots of pilots in training doing takeoff and landing practice.

There used to be a bar where the bartender had a chalkboard of incoming arrivals for the day.
It’s still there!
Yeah, it has a full tv with the arriving flight schedule. Was there 2 years ago.
Are you allowed to dive into the water out the plane?
Are you allowed to jump out of a taxi on the motorway?
It’ll be the same result.
Maybe with some of the smaller commuter planes, but the jets not likely,,,,
I feel sorry for residents of that place.
Don’t. It’s a lovely island with plenty of room (French side is actually kind of sleepy).
Maho is just a spit of land on the other side of Simpson Bay… not very representative of the island.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Is the mistake of ATC?
Nope, honestly an every day/hour arrival.
Is this a relaxing time at the beach?
When I travel to go to a good beach, I want to doze off then admire the waves then go into the water, rinse and repeat… not hear planes up close.
Lots of relaxing beaches on SXM…. but not this one!

If I’m being brutally honest, I’d rather be on Saba, but that’s just me.
However SXM has lots of relaxing and sweet spots to chill… they’re just on the opposite side of the island :)
