Yeah. I mean, I really don't know what if any work she had done. But I imagine that few women who continue to have careers in Hollywood make it without having something done.
I don't blame any woman in Hollywood who has any work done. I'm also not saying that there's anything wrong with people who want to get work done. Body modification is a personal choice. People do things because they want to. I just acknowledge that it's a difficult industry for women after 30, there's a lot of really fucked beauty expectations particularly with women, and a lot of pressure to stay looking as young and thin and "pretty" by western beauty standards as possible.
I just hope that we can start to cultivate an environment where women feel safe to age naturally. So that if they want to get work done, they're doing it for themselves rather than out of societal pressure. Again, I'm not here to be the arbiter of who is doing it for the right reasons or the wrong reasons. Just pointing out the broad context.
It's the second time I read this. Helen Mirren doesn't seem subtle at all, for me. She's been conservative, but not subtle.
Her face shows her age in a very graceful way, except for her cheekbones.
She's slowed down a bit now, but there has been a time when her cheekbones showed all the injections she was getting. Completely unnatural, swollen, like a ping pong ball, with very smooth skin that did not match the rest of her (still beautiful) face.
She’s absolutely had a face lift, at minimum. You can see the scars if you search for “Helen Mirren ears” and zoom in. The scars go up the lobe and ear in the natural crease/discoloration there.
Source: My mom had a really good facelift and has the exact same scars.
Yeah, she looks great, and she's had exceptionally good and expensive work done, the tasteful kind, that makes people say things like OP said. I think we have this collective blindspot for well done cosmetic work and only think of images of ridiculous implants or botched results when we think "plastic surgery."
To me she always looked like she had something weird going on with her lips. They are maybe naturally very full and wide because she had that look since she was young.
There was a movie that came out about 20 years ago or so where I was SHOCKED by how much work she had done. Didn't look natural at all. I guess the lesson here is that if you get any "work" done, make sure it's the kind that wears off with time. Like botox or fillers.
Jennifer Tilly does it perfectly. A snip here, a tuck there, spaced out perfectly over 40 years. So it looks like almost nothing has been done, but hundreds of thousands of dollars say otherwise.
She's has had quite a bit of work done. It's just done well which is why people think it's "natural." Lol no one aging naturally looks like that in their 80s.
While i do not enjoy the character, I LOVE JLC. She has been great in her recent roles and allowing herself to be shown with an 'old' face --Halloween, The Bear...normalize actors keeping their expressive faces
I have a big crush on Kate Winslet ever since I found out she not only hasn’t gotten anything done, but is very vocal about promoting natural beauty and criticizing these procedures.
Only actress I can say confidently never had Botox, filler, or surgery is Linda Hamilton. No judgment for those who do, it’s basically a work expense for them. But it is a welcome change to see a face on screen with truly no work done.
Usually when people say that it’s like this post, where the celeb has been restrained with it and stayed well below the uncanny valley line.
It has aged well, in that it feels like a "period piece" now. Distinctly 90s in a really fun way that is occasionally silly. But no one has made anything really like it since it went off the air, so I won't be surprised if it has a "Friends" like revival among the weird younger set eventually.

I think one of the most interesting things about it is the vibe of HYPER paranoia about the government being evil, but it never felt partisan. Just general “The MAN is lying to you!!!!” energy.
As a huge fan of the series when it first came out in the 90s, and having rewatched some episodes recently, it's very much a product of its time and place. The best episodes still hold up really well but watching them today sort of feels like I did when I was watching really good episodes of The Twilight Zone back in the 90s.
It's kind of depressing actually, characters like The Lone Gunmen represented a time when conspiracy theories were fun and mostly harmless instead of whatever the hell is going on today.
So to answer your question, sort of. As long as you don't watch too long and get into the later seasons where everything comes off the rails
Imo a lot of the monser of the week episodes are really good but the meta plot episodes are terrible. Wouldn't say it has 'aged' badly though, the bad parts are the plot and writing. I never got thrown by special effects or anything like that
X-Files suffered from never knowing if it was going to get cancelled or not. You can tell that they sort of assumed they'd be cancelled after Season 1 because of how they wrapped up so much of the arc. When they got renewed, it was "shit, uhhh, okay, how's this sound?"
Yeah I rewatch the show every few years and pretty much only watch the MOTW eps. MOTW only and it’s just as good as the Twilight Zone at its peak, if not better.
The movie from the 90’s has aged extremely well since they did the right approach in making it where someone who has never seen the show can watch it and follow along perfectly and be satisfied. It’s just a really fun sci-fi conspiracy movie that’s well made
Only the last two? I always thought she was a bit wooden as Scully, but it's a little hard to tell whether it was her acting or Scully being a bit of a stoic scientist type.
scully’s stoicism makes sense for her character especially after learning her backstory and the times when you see her by truly vulnerable. she’s an amazingly well acted character.
Older actresses used to almost always have bangs to cover up their forehead lines. Now if you see a 50+ actress (or actor, even) with a middle part and a bare forehead, it's usually because she's had a little botox.
Botox is really not that big of a deal. Obviously, it can be abused, but in moderation for targeted areas is totally no big deal, unless you happen to have an allergic reaction of course.
There's minimal treatments that can have amazing results and no long term side effects or downsides, other than it only last maybe 6 months. If you have forehead creases, for example, a few careful injections will have your forehead looking like a 25 year olds and can make a huge difference, especially if your job is to be on screen in front of millions.
Botox is also effective in targeted areas for migraine treatment.
Yes, everyone is different, totally true. It's not considered any kind of major procedure by any dermatologist and you can try it, then be right back to where you were 6 months later if you didn't like.
I'm sure some people would consider taking Tylenol as using drugs and therefore never touch it.
Of course people who know exactly what you look like may be able to eventually spot what's different. I'd argue that's largely part of the point when done for cosmetic reasons.
Source: wife has had injections for migraines for a few years, has had a few in her neck and forehead to address wrinkles.
I'm a 52yo guy and don't have a single wrinkle on my forehead, and neither does my 80yo mom - sometimes it's just genetics, as I haven't stayed out of the sun and have zero skincare routine. Tho like you I am well hydrated and don't smoke
Is this like the meme where someone posts a pic of a hot girl with tons of makeup and filters and the guy says he loves when women wear light or no makeup? Obviously the work she had done is tasteful and luckily she started off looking pretty beforehand but yeah guys need to stop acting like they know what's going on with women's beauty routines
I just watched a thriller on Netflix with Megan Fox. In the movie, she wakes up and immediately the events of the movie start, so there’s no time to put on makeup. Yet she has it on. Then a bit later, she ends up with blood all over her, and she washes her face, conveniently offscreen, and then dries it. She’s still wearing makeup lol
I’m sure there’s a lot of guys out there that had no clue, and it’s EXTREMELY apparent that’s she’s wearing a ton of makeup and false lashes. It made me chuckle
Marvelous Ms. Maisel has a bit where she wakes before her husband to put on full makeup. Then goes back to bed so her husband doesnt see her without makeup.
And this. There's a huge difference between someone who has had work from a really skilled surgeon and who hasn't. Which also factors in those who can afford it and who can't.
Actress who has never talked about having cosmetic procedures and if she has, they're well done.
Like most of them are.
But Reddit has this bizarre idea that only the shitty TINY MINORITY of procedures, done by underqualified/amoral corner-cutters...that's what they all look like.
Like judging leg surgery by only the people who have to get an amputation.
Yes, this is not an image of natural aging. Look at the chest vs face skin. This is a product of Botox, Lasers, peels, micro needling, and high end skincare.
She looks fantastic but this can not be promoted as natural.
In addition to genetics, guess what money can buy you? Way less stress in your day to day life, and higher quality everything. Personal chef, personal trainer, personalized supplements, nutritionist, endocrinologist, whatever doctor you can think of, steam/sauna, laser, the GOOD red light therapy beds…
Plus, pretty much any source of stress that you want to offload — if you can afford it, you can outsource it.
Melissa Joan Heart (49) has actually seemingly never had Botox or work done and I love when her authentic self comes up on my insta scrolling. And yeah, in comparison, this actress has definitely had injections.
Wait, who was she in The Great? I feel like I missed something. Catherine herself is played by Elle Fanning. But, G.A was fantastic as the sex therapist mom in Sex Education
Part of the reason they casted her for the role is because they wanted her character to be taken seriously as a medical doctor and law enforcement agent, and felt that wouldn't be possible if they went with the typical Hollywood blonde bombshell.
Of course she's still insanely attractive. And she was only 24 in the beginning of The X Files.
I'd definitely believe she hasn't had fillers or full on plastic surgery. I would not believe she hasn't at least been doing botox for YEARS. Which, cool, good for her, I absolutely don't care. BUT, it creates an unrealistic standard when people post pictures like this CLAIMING it's all natural.
just professional makeup, hair, wardrobe, lighting, photography, personal nutritionist / trainer, excellent working conditions, access to top-notch healthcare, nutrition, and lifestyle factors.
Just look at her forehead. Who posted this and thought they could lie about her never getting injections? A 57 year old without any wrinkles and people are supposed to believe this looks natural?
Yeah, you're not escaping from gravity no matter who you are. You can't mitigate the pull of earthly forces by avoiding the sun. Wrinkles can be reduced with skincare, but sagging happens to everyone
You can achieve this without being rich and famous. Exercising, eating right, and moisturizing daily with sun protection can get you 90% of the way there. This is not that out of the ordinary. I have 50 something friends that look this good.
No doubt. I looked up Jeanne Tripplehorn last night because I started watching The Lowdown and I cannot believe she is 62. She's absolutely stunning. I'd love to just have a personal trainer and dietician - must make a ton of difference.
This is a weird shitty post dressed up like a nice one. Not everyone's gonna age like fucking millionaire Gillian Anderson. While plastic surgery isn't natural, neither is having a shit ton of money to spend on personal trainers, nutritionist. hair, make up, wardrobe, etc. Let's just let people age the way they're going to and not make it our business.
I love threads like this because it shows that like 99% of men and probably at least half of women have no fucking idea how to spot Botox or plastic surgery. I'm not saying she's had work done, but I know men who have no idea their wives have gotten Botox. It's like when men say they like "natural makeup" to without realizing what actually goes into that look.
Can you go overboard and look like a freak? Yes, look at Trump's admins. But you fucking nerds sound like incels to regular people. Touch grass.
People here claiming that she, Helen Mirren, Julia Roberts, etc "haven't had work done" just shows how twisted our perceptions of "natural" are. Go look at someone aged 40 or 50 from a movie made in the 1980s and now look at our current actresses.
They have ALL HAD WORK DONE. It's done WELL, which is what y'all really mean. They look good and not exaggerated. But they've all had lots of procedures and work done.
Gillian Anderson has been careful with Botox, has a professional makeup artist, good lighting, and this is a still shot with her smiling a smile and holding a pose she‘s used for decades. The photographer has dozens of shots to choose from along with Photoshop. If she was even walking, she’d look a bit different.
You'd be surprised how common injections are and how hard they are to spot if they don't go overboard. I'd wager she's probably had some modest botox through the years.
If this is Gillian Anderson she’s absolutely had plastic surgery, Botox, and fillers. All three. Repeatedly. You still look natural if you don’t overdo it, and she never overdid it. She looks amazing. But just because you only notice the bad surgeries and injections doesn’t mean good ones don’t exist. You just don’t notice the good ones and think the person is aging well….
My Wife and I literally sat next to her on a very recent flight. The brief interactions we had with her were all very pleasant. Seems like a nice person.
She takes good care of herself (not to mention her good looks). There's nothing wrong with aging gracefully. Plastic surgery can't stop time. You are just buying time, but eventually, aging will catch up.
Along with everyone else’s remarks about what work she did or didn’t have and why that would ever matter to anyone; It is also entirely possible that different people age differently.
Oh, come on. Her work is tastefully done but she has definitely had botox, injections (or implants) at the cheeks, chin and temples, laser, either a lower bleph or CO2 laser on the lower eyes, and either a lower or full facelift and neck lift in the last 10-15 years. There are certain facial realities for a late-50's person that even the best genetics cannot delay.
But kudos as it is well done. I wish more starts would do as she has done and skip the upper bleph. It looks so much more natural. Look at Bradley Cooper or Simon Cowell to see examples of what a bad bleph will do to your face.
Rule 5: Post Titles Must Follow the Title Guidelines
Titles must follow all title guidelines.
She definitely got botox and hyaluron. But nothing major.
Yeah. I mean, I really don't know what if any work she had done. But I imagine that few women who continue to have careers in Hollywood make it without having something done.

Julia roberts is also very natural looking
I just watched leave the world behind a few weeks ago and she still looks great.
Lip fillers
Edit: she hasn't had any. They just be like that
To me she always looked like she had something weird going on with her lips. They are maybe naturally very full and wide because she had that look since she was young.
Her lips have always been that shape, even when she was like 20 in Mystic Pizza.
I think they started using lip fillers *because* of Julia Roberts.

Dame Mirren's mouth job is excessive and distracts one from whatever is being watched. In the recent Mobland, her duck lips are very distracting.
Fun fact: Dame and Sir are the two honorifics where you use the first name after them instead of the last name.
So: Mr Jones, Dr Smith, Ms Kennedy, Sir John, Dame Helen.
So Alan Sugar who is both a Knight and a Lord is Sir Alan, but Lord Sugar.
Jennifer Tilly does it perfectly. A snip here, a tuck there, spaced out perfectly over 40 years. So it looks like almost nothing has been done, but hundreds of thousands of dollars say otherwise.
Jennifer Tilly absolutely looks like she’s had work done. She’s also said she heavily uses filters.
Meryl Streep is aging like a fine wine.
She's has had quite a bit of work done. It's just done well which is why people think it's "natural." Lol no one aging naturally looks like that in their 80s.
Everytime she appears super thin, its because she's had a face lift. That's how you get the work to last longer
Jamie Lee Curtis as well.
Watching her playing in The Bear was refreshing. Probably the best thing I've seen in a tv series.
I believe she is naturally beautiful.
Men too.
Recently watched the latest Claire Danes thing on Netflix. I think we can add her to the (small) list.
Frances McDormand as well.
One of my favorite actresses who actually gets me to the theater. 3 Billboards was one of the better films I've seen in the last 10 years.
Linda Hamilton aged fairly aggressively for someone in this time period. It really shows the effects of smoking on the skin.
Stress, too. Having to constantly be on watch for Terminators takes a physical toll.
Smoking and sun exposure to low melanin / low collagen skin. Brutal.
Justine Bateman
How much screen work does Justine Bateman get these days? Cant say I’ve seen her in anything for a long, long time.
Major enough that she couldn’t show any emotion the last two seasons of xfiles
Okay wasn't sure if this was Gillian Anderson or not. I'm watching X Files for the first time right now lol. Halfway through season 2
Has it aged well?
It has aged well, in that it feels like a "period piece" now. Distinctly 90s in a really fun way that is occasionally silly. But no one has made anything really like it since it went off the air, so I won't be surprised if it has a "Friends" like revival among the weird younger set eventually.
I remember being really unsettled by the episode where there was some creature (man?) eating people's livers (?) and living under an escalator (again, ?).
It was along time ago, like when they first aired a long time ago.
"Tooms". That one's truly freaky. But there are a lot of episodes that will scare the shit out of you if you catch them on the wrong (or right?) day.
"Home."
So unsettling, they rarely aired it on reruns.
I still won't set foot on a baseball diamond in a cornfield
For a few years it seemed like every time I spotted X-Files in reruns, it was that episode. Unsettling doesn’t begin to describe it.
That episode is all the more creepy by the fact the actor in his 50’s married a 16 year old Courtney Stodden.
From what I can tell in some online spaces, it’s already having a small revival in that way.
I think one of the most interesting things about it is the vibe of HYPER paranoia about the government being evil, but it never felt partisan. Just general “The MAN is lying to you!!!!” energy.

X-Files suffered from never knowing if it was going to get cancelled or not. You can tell that they sort of assumed they'd be cancelled after Season 1 because of how they wrapped up so much of the arc. When they got renewed, it was "shit, uhhh, okay, how's this sound?"

I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Kinda reminds me of Angel if you ever watched that.
Only the last two? I always thought she was a bit wooden as Scully, but it's a little hard to tell whether it was her acting or Scully being a bit of a stoic scientist type.
You say wooden I say realistic. Most women don't react like Olive Oyl and I wish hollywood understood that
she was the most federal agent I've ever seen on tv
scully’s stoicism makes sense for her character especially after learning her backstory and the times when you see her by truly vulnerable. she’s an amazingly well acted character.

It isn't permanent which is why I don't see it as a big deal either.
You are making so many statements. How would you know why people.disagree.
I had very small botox injections and I think it is a big deal: it changes your mimic significantly.
With a little trained eye everybody can see the difference. What could as well be seen by some as a big deal.
What is "changes your mimic"? Honest question.

Just plain old false.

Ironically, Chris Carter had to fight for her, because the network wanted Pamela Anderson, or a PA type actress.
Skully!!
Yeah but we don’t know what the aliens did.
They put the chip in her neck that broke the barcode scanner at the grocery store.
That couldn't have been cheap to fix.
Wow, she's 57?
There's definitely a tasteful amount of botox happening here. Possibly some photoshop as well.
This photo is heavily filtered. Zoom in and her nose is quite blurry and she has a lot of sun damage on her chest that is blurry.
plus hollywood lighting. giant diffused softboxes can really hide wrinkles and imperfections.
I’m pressing doubt on this one…

No doubt. I looked up Jeanne Tripplehorn last night because I started watching The Lowdown and I cannot believe she is 62. She's absolutely stunning. I'd love to just have a personal trainer and dietician - must make a ton of difference.
And Botox. And probably more.
Right?! Imagine how great we'd all be able to look if we didn't have to work 45 hours, commute 2 hours, then make dinner for the kids...
Life is a fucking lot.
the thing is actresses get critiqued for ageing and also doing anti ageing measure
Yo what's wrong with your spacebar.
the thing is spacebars get critiqued for pressing and also doing anti pressing measure
what am i missing? I thought maybe the spaces were non standard spaces but they seem fine? Curious what you noticed?
You absolutely do not know this to be true.
She has had work done. Don’t kid yourselves.
She looks great but she's had plenty botox.
If my pretty normal sister has had Botox, then 1000% Gillian has had a Botox injection at some stage. Come on!
There are a million things women can do besides botox and surgery to stay young looking. Sculptra, laser treatments, microneedling, etc, etc, etc.
Ya'll are crazy if you think Gillian Anderson and other women her age don't do any of this.
They do. And it's very clear that Gillian has at the very least had botox.
A 57 year old multi-millionaire who had the best resources available to them and had botox along with other expensive cosmetic treatments
You fucking plebs keep simping though
My sweet summer child
How do you know? Are you stalking her? Are you her doctor?
This is a weird shitty post dressed up like a nice one. Not everyone's gonna age like fucking millionaire Gillian Anderson. While plastic surgery isn't natural, neither is having a shit ton of money to spend on personal trainers, nutritionist. hair, make up, wardrobe, etc. Let's just let people age the way they're going to and not make it our business.
She did though
Gillian Anderson definitely had work done. Look at her in the original X files vs now.
Botox only looks horrible if you make it obvious. It’s clear a majority of normal looking celebs have had it to an extent.
Only a nose job, neck lift, possible eye bleph, mini face lift, dermal fillers, and Botox. But yeah completely NaTURaL.
I don't care if she has done anything minor, she still looks age appropriate. And she looks stunning. Always has.
meh are you sure about that?
Y’all see a lady with some gray roots in her hair and assume that must mean she’s gotten zero surgery or injections 😭
?? Why would anyone think Gillian Anderson hasn't had work done?? Baffling.
Smooth forehead says otherwise.
Doubt
Just many many thousands of dollars in aestheticians and stylists.
That forehead is botoxed. Source: me and my botoxed forehead.
Bro, nearly everyone in Hollywood has had surgery. Even the young people. You just noticed the bad ones.
Is she in the room with us right now because Gillian Anderson, while absolutely stunning, has clearly got Botox and fillers.
You mean "57 Year old actress who didn't go overboard with work trying to look 25".
And who is that? Don’t assume people know.
It's Gillian Anderson off of the X Files
She looks really different so I’m guessing she’s had work done?
10000% has had botox and likely other things
Username checks out.
What are you talking about? She clearly has had injectables at the minimum. Nothing wrong with that anyway.
Are you her? Because that’s the ONLY way you would know.
How naive to think this is the face of someone with non filler or botox.
She's had work done. Maybe not a full face lift, but stuff has been done. The best (possibly) non-scalpel related work that money can buy.
I think she’s probably had at least one well done face lift.
These are not Joan rivers facelifts people.
She's in an industry where youth and looks are everything. Of course, she's had stuff done and that's fine. She looks fabulous!
Nope. Sorry. She’s had work done. But she still looks like herself and she’s still gorgeous.
Apropos of nothing she is wearing a hairpiece.
No needles huh?
You'd be surprised how common injections are and how hard they are to spot if they don't go overboard. I'd wager she's probably had some modest botox through the years.
no tattoos and no plastic surgery is going to be the new cool
Uh huh
lol she had a nose job early in career. OP just spend maybe 5 seconds on google before posting
She definitely had a nose job.
Don’t be gullible, of course she’s had injectables, at the very least. Everyone does in that industry.
Well she has spent a lot of time with aliens.
Just many many thousands of dollars in aestheticians and stylists.
doubt it
My Wife and I literally sat next to her on a very recent flight. The brief interactions we had with her were all very pleasant. Seems like a nice person.
But access to skin routines and fitness trainers and good sleep schedules and low economic stress
She takes good care of herself (not to mention her good looks). There's nothing wrong with aging gracefully. Plastic surgery can't stop time. You are just buying time, but eventually, aging will catch up.
Surgery, maybe. Injections, most definitely. Still finer than a new set of snow tires!
That you know of...
If I was on the X-files I wouldn’t either
Moulders baby batter.
Along with everyone else’s remarks about what work she did or didn’t have and why that would ever matter to anyone; It is also entirely possible that different people age differently.
You sure about that!?
"Would you rather be 57 and look 57, or be 57 and look like a lizard?" -Bill Burr
I'd argue she got hotter with age
Good injections and plastic surgery you never notice. It’s when they go overboard it’s clear as day.
At least she’s not gone down the current craze of becoming a walking skeleton.
Absolutely not true.
You are kidding yourself.
Lol not a chance
[x] doubt
That's a textbook botox forehead.
Nah, she's an example of just the right amount of botox.
