3: East Wing (Destroyed). President Truman oversaw the most extensive renovation in White House history, a massive gutting of the interior to prevent collapse while preserving the integrity of the exterior structure

I think the trim will come off pretty quickly. They won't want it to remain so we actually find out it's not legitimate gold. I suspect a lot of it is glued on too. It's mostly in the TV shown areas of the White House too. It's all for show and to trigger people.
Most of that depends on if they lose in 28 which I think they will. They didn't do enough serious work on improving cost of living, the job market is cascading, and they went nuts on the ICE/National Guard stuff. We've got more to go through and he's aging really fast since reelection. The base doesn't turn out without him.
Was that just Carter's nightly routine or something? Trump will probably log over 34,000+ hours of fox news in the white house by the end of his second term.
It seems like a lot, but I think it averages out to about 2 films per week over the course of 4 years. Not unreasonable for a very high stress job, and it’s similar to what I did during COVID
The theatre room looks horrible in all the right ways. It was a historic piece that shouldn't have suffered that fate. It was legitimately what ideal home theatre was at that time.
Some of the rooms faintly smelled like old furniture as expected. The main hall smelled like a regular house, and the security screening corridor smelled like an airport with all of the specialized screening equipment
I did the tour 37 years ago. Most of that tour was outside. They apologized, and said the president had an important last-minute guest and we could not be inside. I was in a group of about 50 13-year-olds. We sat on the south lawn, and the staff brought us sandwiches and milk cartons for lunch.
I got to go in that theater! I thought that was so cool getting to sit in the chair with the presidential seal. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures :(
It was a school field trip during the Obama administration. We were surprised by a visit from the man himself actually! Very humble and he held himself with a remarkable level of dignity and grace considering he was being bearhugged by about 30 to 40 kids lol. We also got to meet the president's dog, Bow. I remember being shocked how much bigger he looked irl.
It was a big moment for all of us, like meeting god himself (perhaps a bit dramatic but we were kids waddaya expect). Everyone kinda immediately rushed at him when he entered the door so it was actually a surprise how chill the secret service were about it. I also distinctly remember being surprised how gray his hair had gotten.
I'm happy for you that you got to experience the East Wing before it was razed and became a thing of the past... It's OK that you don't have pictures, cherish the memories
Man I went to DC in 5th grade in 2008, so I guess this was under Bush, all we got to do was stare at it from the front gate. I grabbed some grass blades by the fence and I still have them to this day. My mom was scared I was going to get shot.
Would have been cool to meet Bush or Obama but I feel like he’d have been more willing to. I was 11, so it would have just been cool to meet a president regardless.
Yeah as an adult I see Obama in a much more critical light (though to be fair I still think he is by far the best president we've had in the 21st century) but he at least had some decorum. Like Obama definitely failed on combating the US imperialist complex (and arguably helped expand it) but at least he wasn't destroying the union as well.
If brown terrorist - sorry, that was redundant. Brown people had destroy the East Wing we’d have nothing but fire & fury. But when Mango Mussolini does it? Crickets.
This was the standard tour that you typically get if you sign up via congressional representative. The president doesn’t often use these rooms, and the entrance to the actual sensitive areas (Oval Office, press room, etc) were blocked by a giant folding screen
People don’t realize the White House was built by slaves… it’s not “the people’s house” when the very people who built it were so violently oppressed and denied human rights. Even in this state now, its architecture is ugly and outdated and a reminder of that oppression. The fact that it’s smothered in all kinds of surveillance equipment in modernity makes it even creepier. I understand how hard it is to change tradition but the White House is an architectural zombie. How long will we keep dragging this reminder of elitism, war, and inequality into relevance? This is the seat of power that has continuously allowed for the unacceptable and merciless disenfranchisement of marginalized Americans, it has never represented all of its people.
We need to start over. We need to bury the skeletons that are in these walls. The White House must be vacated and turned into the museum it should have been decades ago. The furnishings installed by the Trump administration should be removed, as I do not believe he ever lawfully held power. Photographic evidence of how he desecrated this place should be more than enough to keep around.
This is the Space Age, people. Let’s act like it. Let’s build something better, together.
Interestingly, the original chair set in pic 1 was auctioned off by President Buchanan, and to this day, the White House Historical Association is trying to retrace and put the set back together

Sad that parts of it are gone and the rest has been slapped with gawdy gold trims...
From Home Depot
But they propably paid for them tripple of real gold.
No. They were spray painted.
He's trying to say Trump would have paid three times the price of real gold for his cheap spray painted tat because of corruption/incompetence.
Buy for $10, bill for $100.
Installed by contractors connected to him and his family.
Bought during a kidnapping. It was lots of fun!

They don’t plan on leaving peacefully. Project 2025 is running the show and they’re going for it.
I agree. They've been planning this for decades and aren't going to just give up all their "progress".
You think they’ll take it with them so we never find out?
That's their thought process. Remember the papers being flushed down toilets?
Was that just Carter's nightly routine or something? Trump will probably log over 34,000+ hours of fox news in the white house by the end of his second term.

It makes me happy to think of the very real possibility that the president chose to decompress by watching Caddyshack.
All of the films he watched
This is wonderful.
Caddyshack confirmed, August 30, 1980.
The theatre room looks horrible in all the right ways. It was a historic piece that shouldn't have suffered that fate. It was legitimately what ideal home theatre was at that time.
Ngl I kinda dig the wall style
I unfortunately do as well. It's so ugly but so fitting. Hah
It had an art deco vibe to it, I think.
was the theater room destroyed by trump or was it previously destroyed?
Trump demolished the theater along with the entire east wing.
i knew he demod the east wing, didnt know exactly what was in there so thats why i was asking. ty
Why was movie theater destroyed?
To make way for the ballroom
I have a random weird question.
What did it smell like? Was it like old persons house? Antique shop smell? No smell? New house smell?
The world must know!
Some of the rooms faintly smelled like old furniture as expected. The main hall smelled like a regular house, and the security screening corridor smelled like an airport with all of the specialized screening equipment
Good way to put it, I mostly remember like a historical home and furniture smell, but didn’t think to consider the more modern/open areas
That’s a great question. Thanks for asking it! I thought I was the only one that was curious about it.
Wow it was so classy back then!
Before the “en-shitfication”.
Where's all the gold colored plastic?
Before the trailer park toddler took it over.
[removed]
Not glorified anymore
It looks so warm and dignified
That last quote really hurts.
i hope her ghost is haunting that place & cursing you know who every day.

Ugh, such a flagrant lack of gold embellishments
I also notice a distinct lack of print-outs letting dementia patients know which room is which.
Fuck the orange thing and his turd smearing of the people's house
Hey guys just woke up from a years long coma. This photos are awesome.
Sure do hope the White House still looks similar. It'd sure be a shame if anything happened to any of these wonderful areas.
Before it was ruined
good job, you will make restoration easier

Compared to what we have now, he pretty much was a god. Everyone goes grey in that job but the orange dyejob guy.

When it was literally the People’s House. 🫤
Now it looks like a brothel
Like someone said, hopefully they can restore it. It honestly looks like an 1800 French street brothel now. Gaudy decor can be tossed quickly.
Google street view will let you walk through the White House.
Where’s the destroyed east wing?
Pics 3 and 4
Looks very classy without all the garbage.
Noticing a distinct lack of gold and tackiness.
It looks so cozy
For those unaware: You can do a tour of the White House in Google "Street" view.
Picture #4. Demolished
Haha, and that stupid monkey is tearing it all down.
This is so beautiful... I hope some one can restore it the best they can.
💔💔💔💔
This was before they installed the stripper pole, diet coke fountain and neon swastikas.
Nice to see it not looking like a showroom for Temu again.
Before the gold painted home depot decor?
could you tell us what rooms these are?
Beautiful! Do you know anything about the piano in the last picture? Or is it a harpsichord?
Thanks for sharing these.
What a dump. That needs gold leaf and marble. Really class it up.
If
brown terrorist- sorry, that was redundant. Brown people had destroy the East Wing we’d have nothing but fire & fury. But when Mango Mussolini does it? Crickets. This was before everything got a coat of gold spray paint.
You must have special access, because the tour we plebs got was lame.
This was the standard tour that you typically get if you sign up via congressional representative. The president doesn’t often use these rooms, and the entrance to the actual sensitive areas (Oval Office, press room, etc) were blocked by a giant folding screen
Not enough gold
No g(r)ift shop?
It's probably all cheap looking gold wrapped now
heart breaking
Hey, looks good. Hope it stays like that and doesn’t get drastically altered.
Sorry Abby, dump has ruined it
Keep them for posterity sake.
Man… RIP to a real one.
this place had dignity. all gone.
Number 4 is that room that got torn down, yeah?
So classy! I can’t believe there’s no outrage on the current gaudy look of the White House 😣
As Trump has said : “What a dump” /s

IMO, the theater is probably the worst room. It was of it's time but the colors clash and doesn't match the rest of the white house.
The brick walkway does look pretty shitty. They definitely could've fixed it and kept reused the bricks.
And it's fucking gaudy as shit.
It wasn't any more gaudy than any other historical house that tried to keep to original decor.
It's definitely less gaudy than all the fake gold spray paint decor that has been added this last year.
I'm not debating how gaudy or not it is. I said my opinion. That's it.
Dang this place could use a REMODEL. I’m thinking gold…..
That is the fanciest cuck chair I've ever seen
Interestingly, the original chair set in pic 1 was auctioned off by President Buchanan, and to this day, the White House Historical Association is trying to retrace and put the set back together
Honestly looks like shit lol I know it's historic and all but damn, they had zero taste
